    I'm sure browsing the web on the dreamcast was sick back in the day. but now we browse the web on our Xbox's.

    I personally barely used dialup but it was a reason for why I always asked mom to get me a Dreamcast back when it was in stores.
    My dad happened to use dialup and FAX modems even before the regular Internet was a thing here in Germany in the early 90's, I was still very young but yet I can somewhat remember seeing him going online with his 386 that ran Windows 3.11 for Workgroups at the time.
    Sadly I have no idea how to do these cables myself, especially since European cables require more power than US ones and thus two batteries, but it's awesome to see the Dreamcast and old computers still being capable of getting online in one way or another.

    I loved my Dreamcast. Back in the late 90's, PCs were not as widespread as they are today. It was my first internet connection at home. And having my own Dreamcast email address was really cool.

      Thanks!! I'll have to put the music titles in the description, they're sourced from the TH-cam Audio Library.

    Great video bud! Trying to get an old IBM 5150 hooked up to read BBS's on simulated dial-up over here, this video was pretty interesting

    This is awesome! I don’t know why I didn’t think to use the DreamPi with other things, but now my interest is piqued.

      Thanks!! I was really curious, so I spent two weekends trying to figure it out... I'm sure glad I happened to find a modem that worked! I'll have to try and get my Macintosh Plus online... and maybe even the Apple IIgs :)

    I've had a lot of success using the Dreampi on old PC's and Macs. One issue I've ran into is trying to use it for BBS. It will connect but I get a few lines of garbage text and then a message like 'No Carrier' (ZTerm on Mac) or just disconnects (Hyper Terminal on Windows).

    I'm just waiting on the usb modem part through post then ill be back online with this set up- you have answered a couple questions I had which I couldn't find a straight answer to so thanks for that 👍

    This is actually quite fascinating. Personally speaking, I could not get this USB modem to communicate with my Windows 98 rig at all. It's pretty inexplicable, I suppose because it never asked for things like DNS redirect or a "username" or even the correct number options for dialing in. I may have to see this running on my brother's LC 475.

    I remember writing support documentation for AT&T WorldNet Service back in the day for the Dreamcast. Wild days, I tell ya! 🤣

      Hey thanks for that! I got AT&T World Net as an ISP to use with both my Dreamcast and Linux box around 2000. I needed to use a "true" login and password that was different from the one the Windows DUP client used but those docs help me find them.

    Great video! at 14:20, what/who gave you that login id/password and the dial number? Is that from the user manual from DreamPi modem?

    • @Mac84
      @Mac84  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! The DreamPi website says you can basically use any phone number, username, or password. So I just provided some random details and it worked fine.

    Sega Dreamcast looks pretty... like... fluffy
    one bad thing is it failed :(
    can you try on playstation 1?

    • @Mac84
      @Mac84  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The system has a great following and an excellent catalog of games. It's failure is a complicated story and doesn't diminish the quality of the games on the system.
      The Playstation 1 did not have a commercial dial-up modem solution (to my knowledge). This solution can work for other consoles and computers however, as demoed in the video.

    DreamPi is not a dial-up server, but *an internet throttler*
