For socks I deffinitely recomend double sided curved needles. I also hate magic loop and classic double sided needles are too much for me. But curved needles are amazing!
I love needle tip blockers, but I only have a couple of pairs so I usually just wrap a hair tie or rubber band around the top of the needle when I’m putting it away.
I uploaded a knitting de-influencing video literally a week ago and it’s so funny to watch it from your perspective (I share a lot of your opinions) 😂 Love your video ❤️
For me the pricer/cheap yarn is more a sustainability and comfort issue. Acrylic yarn is plastic and doesn’t breathe as well. I never buy polyamides or acrylics if i can because I won’t wanna wear the garment eventually. So i’d go more with the quality > quantity motto.
I agree with this! Typically I’ll always go for natural fibres for these reasons. But some people like acrylic and theres nothing wrong with that on a small scale of course. Over consumption is always the issue so buying better quality but less is a great choice!
IDK what brand your 9" circulars are, but those aren't Chiaogoo. Chiaogoo has a smooth transition, without that ridge that yours has. So I wouldn't write them off until you try the Chiaogoo (or another with a smooth transition). I've never had an issue with the yarn catching, and I exclusively use 9" circs for socks. But I will say, I consider a stitch stopper a must on 9" circulars. I just use one and stick both needles in one side. Same if doing a small circular for a hat or sleeve or something. I much prefer a smaller length needle than needed, but that means there's a higher chance of stitches slipping off when not in use. There's just not enough cable to slip the live stitches far enough from the danger one. But you can use other things for stitch stoppers, like those little shaped erasers. In fact, I say pick up 2mm silicone tubing from Amazon or craft store. You can cut long lengths for trying on, medium lengths for holding stitches, and small 2" lengths to act as cable needles and to connect the needle tips together to act as stitch stoppers. 3 products in 1. Its what I did, and it was one of the best $8 I spent for non-essential knitting accoutrement. (Also, yes the tubing can pop off, but you don't loose all your stitches, usually just a couple inches worth, and its usually easy to catch them on the needle again. And it still is waaay faster than stringing in a length of yarn and then picking back up off the yarn after. That way takes eons.) Other things you don't need: Fancy stitch markers/progress keepers: They're cute, but can be so pricey. You can get a huge pack of lightbulb stitch markers of Amazon. I use mine for marking repeats, increase, decrease, etc sections on the needle, as well as around a stitch in the fabric to mark increase, decrease, button hole placement, sectioning off for even pick up, catching a dropped stitch to fix later, counting by 10s or 20s on pairs like socks or sleeves, or marking progress. Row counters: pen and paper, apps, or DIY versions were you link a chain of 10 lightbulb stitch markers are just as helpful. Pom pom makers: you can easily make pom poms without a tool. You can Google the instructions. Yarn bowls: You can use any bowl, flat bottom bag, cardboard box, etc.
Omg this is an amazing comment! Thank you for taking the time and I love all your other suggestions. Dang ok I’ll have to give tiny circular needles a try because I want them to work so bad!!! Sounds like you have a really good system set up! Its so cool to hear how different everyone’s experience is with knitting 🥰
she's right and she should say it !! but if you must be a notions girl (i know i am), save your money and space for the cool, unique things you stumble across at your lys, farmer's market, street vendors, etc. rather than something likely dropshipped
A whole video of you telling us not to buy things just because they're pretty or fancy. Meanwhile, you have the FANCIEST sock blocker hanging on your wall.
I acknowledge that in the vid! Its more about really looking at what we already have and not feeling influenced by social media to buy more. If one of these items really brings you joy then go for it! But I dont think they are necessary for every knitter ✌️❤️
Couldn't agree with you more @adrienneoliver3825. Nobody can tell me what I can and want to buy. If I want it, I will get it. I was turned off by this video. But, this is just me.
For sure! Thats why I say if these things really bring you joy then go for it! They’re just not absolutely essential to knitting. This video is more geared to beginner knitters who might feel like they need all these fancy gadgets and it can feel overwhelming. If this is your main hobby that you love and you want these things then treat yourself! 😁

Oh really cool! I gotta check those out!
As a crocheter I love watching content about neat little knitting gadgets, because the chance of me impluse-buying anything is pretty low.
lol! That's so smart I love that! I do both so I'm easil influenced 😵💫
I love my 9 inch circular needles for socks!! They are the only way I knit socks. ❤
Thats cool! Im glad you found some that work well!

So smart! Love that hack

Chaio goo shorties are great. Absolutely no ridges. I love them.
Thats really good to know! Thank you. Maybe I’ll have to give those a go!
