Thanks so much, Mike! Is this the owl Papa, or a juvenile from last winter? Is it perched in the usual eucalyptus stand? I walk that trail regularly and am excited to know the owl family is nearby.
It's believed to be one of the adults since the young from springtime should have been kicked out of the territory by now. I think I read on a bird site somewhere that from now through the end of the year is sporadically "dating season" for existing mated couples. Probably also why as of late it's more common to see one than both adults along that trail now. But most often it's much further west from the eucalyptus - maybe a 1/4 to 1/3 of a mile, where they might be seen.
