  • GIGANTIC 100,000-Tonne $13 Billion SUPERCARRIER USS Gerald R. Ford Departs Port & Begins Sea Trials!
    With the skillful help of a team of tugs, the magnificent, brand-new, 1,100 foot long, 100,000-tonne nuclear-powered supercarrier, USS Gerald R. Ford, left port to begin sea trials.
    CVN 78 just set out from Newport News for several days of rigorous open water testing. This most impressive vessel introduces many designs, technological, and systems advances to the United States Navy's force projection capabilities.
    And thank you all, once again, for visiting the Ultimate Military Channel.

    In the 60’s, I served as an A-4 pilot on the USS Intrepid and the USS Forestall. The notion for building a carrier of this size is truly mind boggling. I hope I can see the real thing before I pass!

    With railguns maturing, maybe the navy can do a 100,000 ton nuclear battleship with 4 triple turrets, laser point defences and a couple hundred VLS tubes. It would look real nice cruising with the G.R. Ford.

      MVP GAMING if you think of the amount of firepower a carrier group now has, 75 aircraft at least 2 destroyer and many other ships it's more than some country's whole military power this is what makes me laugh when people compare Russia or china to the USA it's not even in the same league let alone a fair comparison china has only just learnt 3 years ago how to land aircraft on a carrier they have never done carrier operations Russia has done what 1 or 2 carrier operations and the last op was pathetic in Syria the French currently have a more effective carrier group than both china and Russia and by 2020 the British will too

    Impressive, of interest does this carrier not have bow and stern side thrusters enabling it to move on its own when leaving port, or were there strong winds and currents requiring assistance from the tugs?

    • @kellymc239
      @kellymc239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No bow or stern thrusters on carriers. They take too much room from the internals of the ship.

      Good luck gettings past last-line defense systems called "c-wiz". CWS, stands for Close-in Weapons Systems. It tracks (using radar and infrared) any inbound missles and does a look-shoot-shoot program at over 6,000 rounds per minute. Highly effective.

    Do these carriers or the the nimitz have bow thrusters

    • @kellymc239
      @kellymc239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. No bow or stern thrusters. Two nuclear plants supply steam to 4 turbine gearsets that drive the 4 stern screws. Typically, one reactor supplies that power, and the other reactor supplies ship-board power generation.

    looking at this I am wondering what someone like me Will be sitting here in this library, watching the CVN 78 Gerald R. Ford about to leave the docks for the first time.
    I am wondering, if six-hundred years from now, what exactly will someone sitting here be watching?
    Perhaps the first generation of people to grow up on Mars, or some other planets, Will be coming to Earth, on giant space ship, that had travelled half way across the galaxy, at perhaps near the speed of light, or buy means of some Time Traveller's Technology, as yet un- heard of in the era of the Gerald Ford Class carriers.
    Knowing that nothing like this has ever been seen on Earth before, I can't help but say a prayer for all the men and crew of the CVN 78 Gerald Ford.
    May God Grant you good speed gentleman, and my every man, woman and child on this world rest a little bit more peacefully, knowing that you are out there, standing ready to defend and protect all humanity, and to preserve our world for future generations to come
    God bless America, and may we never deny that we are a Nation under God Almighty 💺🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
