Accounting is a hard skill that allows you to understand how business performance and business’ financial positions are calculated. Finance also teaches formulas to calculate this but the inputs it uses come from accounting. At the end of the day, theory taught in finance and economics is great for knowing how the world works, but accounting will teach you the hard skills to do the day to day jobs that financial institutions will want you to do.

Accounting is only boring if you don’t understand the utility of it - the problem with Universities is they don’t actually teach you why these skills are useful. Want to know how to pick companies to invest in? Accounting is essential to this. Want to audit companies to stop them from using dodgy account practices? Accounting is essential for this.

Idk what school your from but every lesson in accounting already has utility and in no way should the professor even need to tell you the common sense on what we are learning. Your topic for today is mortgage, employee benefits? Bonds? ? The utility explanation of it doesn't need to be spoon fed. It's legit self explanatory. Accounting is often overlooked as a crucial aspect of running a business, but it is actually the foundation that keeps everything in order. Whether you are an individual or business investor, accounting, economics, and finance are all closely related and accountants have the expertise to understand the bigger picture of a business from an investment perspective. They play a vital role in evaluating market segments, helping clients save money on taxes, and determining the best location for a business. It is unfortunate that many people with an accounting degree are unaware of the diverse opportunities it offers, such as working in criminology or the FBI. Personally, I have a business mindset and my mother, a small business owner, has inspired me to pursue accounting to combine my entrepreneurial dreams with understanding the dynamics of money.
A lack of proper accounting practices is a significant factor in the failure of many ( 99%) businesses. This also applies to personal finances, as our spending habits and financial decisions are influenced by accounting principles. From major purchases like buying a car to small expenses like paying overdraft fees, understanding accounting helps us make informed choices. As someone studying accounting, I am grateful for the financial literacy it brings. Now, I question every dollar I spend to ensure it is a wise investment.

    I’m sorry, but economics?
Obtaining an economics degree serves as a means to make a favorable impression. It acts as an additional advantage, much like icing on a cake. It is advisable to pursue a bachelor's degree in fields such as finance, insurance, accounting, or business administration, and subsequently pursue a master's degree in economics to enhance your professional prospects. Just getting a bachelor’s degree can be comparable to a history degree. It sounds interesting and cool, but it won’t really get you anywhere. It’s just icing on the cake.

Employers love economics majors. Just don't expect a specific job title or having multiple offers from firms chasing you down like an accounting major. Econ majors have to be flexible and adaptable to what's out there. Accounting leads to being an accountant (usually). Econ major does not lead to being an economist (unless PHD). Multinational companies, gov agencies, non-profits, NGO's hire econ majors. They are more quantitative in nature than accounting and are closer to being a history degree than accounting as well.

Good video! I went to school for economics and currently work as an accounting analyst. If you’re unsure of where to go for college, just go for accounting. Most businesses prefer accountants over finance and Econ degrees simply because accountants deal with what happened to money directly while finance and Econ deals what they should do with their money. Confirming payments takes priority over projections. As an accountant, you’ll be doing plenty of pivot tables and projections regardless. All 3 majors can do what the others do, but accountants just make things easier for talent acquisition so I would just stick with an accounting degree. However, if you’re really motivated and good with networking, then the degree won’t even matter

Theres other business majors arguably better at the least just as good as accounting . Supply chain management is dang near just as good great demand and pay as well as a very specific skill set that will always be in high demand. Then the best one is management information systems crazy demand insane salary potential. easy to make six figures with it. And ofc finance but that’s probably slightly below accounting but definitely a worthy degree
