I was fortunate enough my parts tractor didn't have large cracks, One minor one I didn't see until cleaning it very well. This video got me thinking, do you think it's possible to bolt the cleaned head down without a gasket and measure clearance between head and block with a feeler gauge to see if it is flattening the deck out?
Did you consider getting the block shaved and recut the liner counter bores to even things up? That is a low compression engine so maybe it won't be a problem. Time will tell...
I do have a lead on a parts tractor. I was going to use it as yard art. Problem is, there's a good chance it will have the same problem. This was a fairly common issue. Thanks for watching!
I think so too, but I'd really like to have some numbers to back that up before I put the head on. You might beat me yet, you never know what's around the corner on a build like this.

It's possible, but I would be worried about damaging the head with the raised part of the block.

Johnny, I did think about it, but I'm really hoping to avoid it. I'm afraid after I machine it, it could move more unless it was secured somehow.
Any chance of sourcing another block? It's a fairly common tractor/motor?

Every one of them is cracked. They all do this, common problem.
I'm betting when you get the head torqued down, it will be fine. I think you are going to beat me since I STILL haven't got mine torn down.
