Mr. Hicks, I was thrilled to discover your channel just yesterday; and I appreciate your costumes and your scale models for your lessons. I have always loved history, especially the Medieval and Renaissance periods. You are so entertaining as well as knowledgeable ; and that is what makes watching your channel so compelling. Thank you so much for all your hard work. 😊❤
Thank you for your detailed commentary on the incidents and events! Good records must've been kept - good enough anyway, to give a good idea of what went on, when in the battle, and how each side fared. So thankful for that! I always enjoy your props! You leave nothing out - grass, trees, weapons, shields, and horses. The soldiers are wearing the proper gear. You leave nothing to guess work. Love that!
Kevin, credit is due. Thank you for being there and explaining our history. Most interesting/fascinating. I look forward to anything you do. You must enjoy doing the models. Art and history, explains. I loved History at school but my exam results were always bad. I never understood that. Thank you again Kevin, enjoy yourself, we are😊
You really have a knack for narrating these battles. I have read about, and heard about them numerous times, but you still manage to make them seem new.
The models you make are outstanding they are a terrific visual representation of the video subject. Great job. Thank you for all the models I’m sure they take a substantial amount of time to create!
Hey Pat, you're right, not clay but plastic, but each of the figures does in fact have to be glued together with arms/legs/heads/helmets in varying formats as well as different weapons etc. so still very time consuming...... and that's before we even get to the painting 😜 Hope you're doing okay buddy 👍🏻
Mr Cornwell is my favourite historical writer. If I have the story right. Bernard had watched a demonstration that Kevin had presented. Unbeknownst to him. Later when Cornwell was asked by the director of Robin Hood if he knew of a good Ancient Archery Expert. Kevin was recommended 😳 High accolades indeed. (Did I get it right Kevin?)
Thank you for this. Not sure it's the right niche but if anyone's into Medieval Brittany and relatively obscure Medieval battles I strongly recommend Schwerpunkt's videos series. I'd love to see a coop between you guys
Great and interesting explanaition. I bet that your grandchildren love you to bits. You know how to captivate us with your passion for history. Always fascinating details drawn from knowledge. Thank you for your exceptionall efforts, not forgetting your support. Great stuff 😊
Kevin makes a video titled "Forgotten Battles of the Breton Succession," and here I am as an American wondering what the War of the Breton Succession even was.
Dont feel so bad mate, a lot of brits arent taught any of this stuff either growing up. We never learned any of this stuff and i studied history all the way up through college. Had to put in A LOT of research compared to other areas of history which i knew well
I just started today to read Bernard Cornwell's "Grail Quest" series again and in the background "Non Nobis Domine" from "Henry V" is playing softly. And this video is just perfect ........
I'm Australian with UK and French ancestry. I've visited my French relatives (3rd cousins) quite a number of times, they have a holiday home in Questembert en Bretagne. The first time I was there in that town I came across a momumnet to Alain the Great who had defended Questembert against the Vikings around 890. The monument was erected to celebrate the 1000th anniversary. Little did I know that several years later I would find Alain the Great as my direct ancestor. Breton to the core!!
Makes my day no matter what part of the week you upload Kevin. Always educational and interesting learn something new every time. Thanks for making me a bit more aware of history no matter what if you told the story id listen .
I listen to plenty of lectures and podcasts and hardcore history by Dan Carlin, but man I could listen to kev talk all day. I dunno what it is, his cadence? Or perhaps the accent? I'm not sure but it's great and I can tell there's a good amount of work and detail in these videos. Awesome stuff please keep making history vids! On behalf of planet earth, we thank all Members of the history squad
You have a way of making stories of history so fascinating. The quality and enthusiasm you provide is incredible. I've shared your channel with all of my history-loving friends. Thank you for your content.
I hope you have a nice Memorial day Kevin! Thank you for serving not only your country, but in so many other places and for sharing your experiences and stories with us. I'm glad you're on here to do so, keeping memories and stories of the fallen throughout history alive with your awesome storytelling.
I would like to say that the Breton cavalry charge was indeed a cheat. But it was also necessary to hasten the end of the fight for refreshments. Best historian of the Kingdom of England!
Been on youtube for 12 years, studied history for at least as long, and this channel really is something special, the love of the subjects, the enthusiasm, and even the grubby bits oft excluded reminding me fondly of the horrible history books of my childhood. Love this channel, should be contributing on payday 😂❤️
Ah...you're counting 😜 Yes I've been away on holiday, but still have managed to make a few videos while we were away, so stay tuned for some beautiful castles to come. 👍🏻
Great presentation Kevin. You are my first "Go-To" channel on YT. BTW...would love a story about any early British Naval history events. I am currently reading much in that perod of 1700 to about 1820.
The figures you use in your displays bring me right back to my childhood when my Pop and I would stage battles with World War II era figures. Tanks, artillery, and planes included. I’m going to say that windmill came from a model train layout.
Thanks, the windmill is actually from my wife's Lilliput Lane building collection, but as you rightly say I have commissioned it for my model train layout 😜
I just thought to myself last night ive not seen much of History Squad I could just do with listening to some Medieval battle stuff, I must be psychic 😊❤
The most effective enjoyable and beautiful and completely intelligible explanation and description of battle I have ever seen. Where did you get your wonderful figures?❤
It's a strange thing. 3/4 of my ancestors are from England and Scotland. When I hear English history from the middle ages, I'm always torn between thinking it's foreign history and thinking it's my history.
Hi Kev, Great video as always. For some reason, the wife is curious if you have ever worn a full set of chainmail armour in your jobs at castles and whatnot. I’m curious too! Cheers.
Yes I have on occasions. I've worn a full set of chainmail and full plate armour, and providing I wasn't shooting the bow it was reasonably managable. 👍🏻
We had a feeling you had worn a set. Apparently, they can be quite manoeuvrable whilst wearing, and a knight with good levels of stamina could charge you/run at a sprinting decent speed! All the best Kev.
Kevin's costume closet must be massive. The thing probably goes all the way through Narnia.
😂
Kevin, as a reenactor and a medieval enthusiast, your videos always show the quality expected.
Passion and dedication.
Lucky you. I'd love to be able to but there is no group anywhere near me.
Thanks

He’s good. But doesn’t have time to make hundreds of soldiers from scratch.
They do, thank you. 👍🏻
