1988, seriously, can I be that long in the tooth! This was the first single I bought by this band and still have it, sounds very refreshing even after all these years (please don't anyone tell me just how many years it is!).
wow....makes you wonder what happens to these guys when the bands fold. I can tell you The Wedding Present were awesome. They had an original sound (which isn't easy within the limited guitar, bass and drums format) and were real contenders - trouble was, it never quite progressed enough into the mainstream, to move them beyond the confines of the 'indie guitar band' label. Still....great band though.
Agreed....they were truly superb in the early days. Then when they jumped on the grunge bandwagon with Albini, that sort of lost me a bit and when they did the 1 single a month for a year campaign, that definitely lost me. I couldn't keep up with the all the bloody releases! The one problem with such a release schedule was that the song quality was lost too and that was me done. Shame.
Interesting remember a gig in a social club in Chelmsford 1996 was about a fiver in didn't bother thought if they are playing here they can't be that good anymore this was a great song in 1988 though bought the 12 inch
Gedge once claimed (firmly tongue in cheek) the The Weddos were Smiths fans second favorite band. So the dressing like The Smiths is just part of the joke. Not met Morrissey but have met Gedge a couple of times and he is a seriously nice person!
I brought that quote up when I met him after a show when I was in the US. He was unamused, but generally entirely charming company. Happy memories of damaging my hearing continually listening to Tommy and George Best far too loud in 88/89.
Went to this festival in brighton a few weeks ago which David Gedge organised and he was actually in with the crowd the whole time it was on and taking photos and such, didn't have the courage to go over and talk to him but he seemed like a really nice guy. Cinerama, Summer Camp and Badly Drawn Boy also played that day. It was really fun!
Still going of course, although Gedge now does look worryingly like Nigel Farage with dyed black hair. Cinerama....hmmm...never really got that. But the Wedding Present, yes, always nice to have a bit of them.
WICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! a young looking gedgey :D saw em in their hometown and in hull back in the day when theyd brought out seamonsters album, when they played leeds, woah!!!!!!! wicked!!!!!! i NEED to see them live again. do they play their old stuff mixed in with their new? or is it just their new stuff?
saw this on the chart show and loved it, been a fan ever since. looking forward to the new album. met Dave at a cinerama gig in Leicester and I was embarressingly drunk, grabbed his hand and told him he was 'a god' before stumbling away.
@postiesince89 paid in cash..? why did it happen, their label was sony/bmg..theyd just done their 12singles in a year92. sounds the sort of thing if they were still on reception records.
You've never mentioned this before It seems I'm always the last to know And do I have to guess how you're going to feel each day You never have a word to say You should have told me I don't understand why you didn't tell me Surely you must know I hate what I'm doing I don't want to upset you but it's yourself you're foo The last thing I need is part twelve of the row But just why are you being so reasonable now? I don't dare answer the phone And when you call I still pretend that I'm not home I don't want to see you anymore Oh love, it's just not me I'm thinking of No one can change that much in three days It's not yours to take back? Surely you must know I hate what I'm doing I don't want to upset you but it's yourself you're fooling The last thing I need is part twelve of the row But just why are you being so reasonable now? How can you do this to me How can you do this to me How can you do this to me How can you do this to me
These guys came in holding on to The Smiths' shirt-tails, as I recall. They even copied the extra-long song titles. I stopped listening when Grapper left.
Whaooooooo, so good song !!!!
I enjoyed this band in the 80's when the alternative scene was truly alternative. And, I'm glad to see them continue in their profession.
Thanks John Peel for letting me tape ur radio progs back in 89' :)
Fascinating - Didn't realise David Gedge had such an obvious 'wants to be Morrissey' period (glad he/they moved on)

I bought the single also. Have you any idea how many copies it sold altogether?
Why are you being this charming man now?
Wedding Present. The best band in the world ever. every single song they do is so awesome.
Funny video! I always was a Wedding Present fan.
Grapper was my biology teacher at school, now he was a cool teacher!! Wouldnt talk about wedding present tho if you asked him..

They all sound the same
My best memories are entangled with this music
...and some of my worst. LOL!
the lovechild of Morrissey and Steve albini
"Last thing I need is part 12 of the row, but why are you being so reasonable now?" is one of my favorite rhymes ever
Amazing
Just watched this on the 7th anniversary of John Peel's passing with a big big smile on my face.
I love their 'matter of fact' conversational song titles. Great band !
Saw them at colchester uni nov 90. And they were staying at our b and b. We had a piss up witn them in b and b bar after. Was hilairious.
Interesting remember a gig in a social club in Chelmsford 1996 was about a fiver in didn't bother thought if they are playing here they can't be that good anymore this was a great song in 1988 though bought the 12 inch

Brilliant memories. Saw them at Maryport, Manchester and Washington DC.

Saw these in leeds 9-12-17 brilliant
I've seen them twice in Chicago...
Really good band . First class performance every time.

thank you for uploading this :)

but we still bought the cinerama records...just because....lol
Saw him a few years ago. Thankfully he didn't remind me of Farage then.
I still get a horn from your music, 30 years on,,!!!!!
I am gonna see them tomorrow! Wooptydoo!
gedge with a pop star haircut!! love it
Why are you being so Morrissey now???
A great track by a largely unknown band fantastic
Class Just Class
This was just before Gedge started dying his hair, kicked Grapper out and then disappeared up his own arse.
Happy days.
Brilliant
Geez... I'd leave home for this guy!
I couldn't hear properly for three days after seeing them... memorable anyway
yeah i remember them as being incredibly loud live too
All hail the wedding present!!
I always picture Sean Connery singing this song in my head...
"Surely you must know I hate what I'm doing /
I don't want to upset you /
But it's yourself you're fooling"
Classic weddoes , in the days when you could get stood up , waiting at the bus stop... then chips on the way home
@dambers1 - Wot a bummer! I hope you get another chance soon.
saw this on the chart show and loved it, been a fan ever since. looking forward to the new album. met Dave at a cinerama gig in Leicester and I was embarressingly drunk, grabbed his hand and told him he was 'a god' before stumbling away.
I'd like to hear WP cover some Joy Division tunes
@KrilaSounds Ok ,maybe he doesn't.
By the way, do you have the video "Come Play With Me"?
nadie se acuerda lo tremendamente atractivo que era el cantante de The wedding present
@FrancoAC - Surely you must know 'that' I hate what I'm doing NOT 'what' I hate what I'm doing.
Best lyricist bar Morrissey
thumbs up if you played this song at your wedding
@postiesince89 paid in cash..? why did it happen, their label was sony/bmg..theyd just done their 12singles in a year92. sounds the sort of thing if they were still on reception records.
Great track, but why is Gedge playing left handed guitar?
i thought he looked more like robbie williams....but the comparison totaly ends there!!!! :))
You've never mentioned this before

And do I have to guess how you're going to feel each day
You never have a word to say
You should have told me
I don't understand why you didn't tell me

The last thing I need is part twelve of the row
But just why are you being so reasonable now?
I don't dare answer the phone
And when you call I still pretend that I'm not home
I don't want to see you anymore
Oh love, it's just not me I'm thinking of
No one can change that much in three days
It's not yours to take back?
Surely you must know I hate what I'm doing
I don't want to upset you but it's yourself you're fooling
The last thing I need is part twelve of the row
But just why are you being so reasonable now?
How can you do this to me
How can you do this to me
How can you do this to me
How can you do this to me
dave gedge rocks :)
@ukpunk1 ...I think he looks more like Robbie Williams!! How strange?
I know you lot hated it, but I thought it was pretty good!
@ukpunk1 Ithink Moz would not appreciate that one
Huh, didn't know Dave was once a lefty...
@ukpunk1 He SOUNDS like Morrissey.
A young David Gedge looks a bit like Morrissey in this video.
@ukpunk1 - yes, a tiny, tiny bit. No, really, nooooooooooooo!
@MrRedmagpie
morrissey
Bastards...they are touring the Bizarro album,,,but no Scottish dates!!! WTF?
@ukpunk1 NOT AT ALL -__-"
