Hi everyone. Thank you for 1 MILLION views!
I was pretty anxious through the production of this video that I would be working to create a video that no one would watch however as the weeks have rolled on the views have climbed as well as the subscribers coming from it.
If you’re here to watch just this video or staying for content coming up I thank you!

This was a phenomenal labor of love for a franchise that desperately deserves it. You did excellent work, and should be proud of your effort. If you weren't aware, there's currently an Evil Within movie in development to film in and around Chicago and release for Halloween, 2025. I can't wait to hear your movie review.
There was only one tiny thing I feel like you forgot: Julian Sykes. Sykes is a member of Alpha Team in the second game and a STEM programmer. He's also probably the smartest member of the group and one of the most fleshed out characters in the cast. If you save him from a horde of The Lost, he will ask you to turn on servers in The Marrow and eventually find a way out. Seb finds a pod to return to the real world, and Sykes says he has a 1 in 4 chance of getting out, then gets in the tub and disappears.
Now, this terrified me more than anything else in the game. If he makes it out, that's great, but if he didn't where did he go? Limbo? Does he no longer exist? Is he trapped in some sub-STEM dimension? The implications are horrific.
I know it's a minor nit pick, but this is definitely worth a talk if you decide to do a Q&A on this video, which I would totally watch. Thanks again for this video. I'm definitely going to subscribe and watch your other stuff. Keep up the good work!

The Evil Within series is hands-down one of my favorite videogame franchises. Its gimmicky, its campy, the first game is ridiculously hard, and the story is hard to follow. But its a very fun series, and has a lot of deep story elements when you take the time to go through all the lore.
Thank you for doing this series justice, its obvious how much time, effort and love went into this video 😊❤️

I thought resident evil five was an awesome ass game!!
But I also thought resident evil six was just phenomenally fun and bad ass and action packed goofy stupidness the whole way through… I thoroughly enjoyed 4, 5 and six, but when resident evil four came out, I did not have as much love for it as everybody else because I was skeptical that it was going to take the theories in the wrong direction..
Either way, I have all of the main line entries including revelations one and two and I enjoy and love each one of them thoroughly!!
I’d be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but being as I am 38 for me it might just be resident evil two? But I also really enjoyed the first one and the remake to the first one.. like I said, I love them all!

Every year I put on my silly clown makeup and go “oh man THIS is the year we get TEW3!” It feels like an incomplete (but incredible!) trilogy. I’ve always felt like the sequel was a way of writing off Sebastian and giving him the best possible ending while also setting the ground work for something relating to Ruvik and Joseph since they both have a lot of unanswered questions. This is especially true with what Kidman says about Joseph in the sequel if you unlock every Polaroid. I am so desperate for the answers to these questions I want that game SO BADLY.

Just got through this video in one sitting as I worked today and you instantly deserved a sub from me.
I'm not one of those "How haven't you reached a mil subs yet?" people mostly cause I suppose we can all agree it's cause of the algorhythm, but I'm certainly happy it lead me to you cause it certainly made my day.
Now, on the topic of Joseph being the protagonist of TEW3, I'd say it's a *great* idea. Seb's story is pretty much closed at this point. He's happy to have his daughter back and start a new life... Altho I'm not quite sure if it's good for it to be set outside of STEM entirely this time. Maybe you can use some strange form of PTSD as a catalyst for 3's story and have The Haunted and other freaks of nature appear as apparitions, but all those nonsensical changes in the environment followed with monsters 5 times larger than you would be nigh impossible to explain if the game took place in the real world instead of STEM.
Either way, fantastic video. Looking forward on future stuff, no matter the length

I can imagine the rage). I only knew about the original Evil Within and liked it okay, but i felt like it had wasted potential with the stuff you mentioned (plot coherency being the biggest one). So it makes me elated that Evil Within 2 was an improvement overall (and low key makes me wanna buy/play it). But i thoroughly enjoyed the deep dive, man! This is a great video but i personally disagree a little with a few things.
In the first game Sebastian just sort of ending up in random areas makes sense with what stem is and i really enjoy the surrealism of it, it makes it feel like a dream. If anything evil within doesnt do enough with what stem is. Conceptually you can do just about anything with it.
I dont think evil within 3 should drop stem. Its been awhile but if i remember correctly the dialouge about Joseph being alive i think implied he was still in Stem.
The way i see Stem is like a brain with there being a conscious, subconscious, and unconscious. I figured joseph and myra were stuck somewhere in the sub or unconscious.
I think that could be a really interesting setting for a game.
I will say I am completely biased though I fucking LOVE surrealism and want more surrealist games

It's some of the hardest cope I've ever huffed but I like to think of Sebastion's stamina as a representation of his mental state whenever he's entered into STEM.
In the first game, he's kinda like, barely got anything going for him-
Wife gone, daughter gone, reported to IA by his best friend.
The ONLY good thing is that he's starting to mend the bridge with Joseph and Kidman is like, a sort of protoge.
I can't imagine his mental state is very good going into the first game. At best, he's just going through the motions.
And then in the second game, right before he's put back in, he's given the brightest, shiniest beacon of hope.
"Hey lmaooo that whole daughter death thing? We got your ass good. She's still alive, but we need you to get her back."
Imagine that, THE thing that ruined his life, and he's given a second chance to fix it.
I doubt he really trusts mobios to let him get away from it all afterwards, but I think he'd be willing to go through it all for just the chance to save Lily.
So like, his mental still probably isn't GREAT, but he's just been given the best bait of his life, and I imagine that really puts a lot off focus into his mind.
Thank you for coming to today's discussion.

Edit: Now that I've watched the entire video I am so happy to see some love given to this franchise after Bethesda and Tango Gameworks have discarded it. When you mentioned Resident Evil Allusions/References in TEW I can't believe you didn't mention the shot of Haunted Connoley turning around like the very first zombie in RE. But no When you were talking about the potential for TEW3 I thought for sure you'd mention Sykes and if he escaped STEM or descended even further. Whatever direction they take next if TEW3 gets made will for sure focus more on STEM. If Alan Wake can get a sequel after this long then so can TEW. Either way great video!

i never understood how people could say 2 improves on the original in every way. i lost interest in this video after 2 minutes, i have no interest in listening to someone try to convince me 2 is better in every possible way when i will never believe that.
i have played through the first game at least 10 times, and it never gets old for me. i played through 2 once, years ago, and never once had the urge to replay it. i would love nothing more than to have 2 the evil within games to replay instead of 1, but 2 is just not replayable to me in the slightest. nothing about it keeps me hooked like everything about the original does.

Man this is a great fucking essay on this franchise. I feel like not a lot of people go deeper into the story of TEW taking everything into consideration, and even more so now years later when the fans of these games have reduced, so it was pretty satisfying seeing a video truly dedicated into analysing the story and the gameplay as well. I could only find people either complaining about the first game and praising the second or people complaining about the second game and praising the first without giving them both the fair credit of what they bring to the table, each with their own pros and cons but still standing strong by themselves.
TEW was one of my first survival horror games that I played, but I also left it behind half way through the first game and only recently I picked it up again lmao. I'm glad that I did that now, because I can see the charm this franchise has even with all its flaws and quirkiness. To me, going through these games felt like deciphering a love letter to not only the classic survival horror games, but to the whole genre in general with its references to horror movies and maybe books as well (for example, I could see some of its campiness coming straight from the famous soap movies "Saw" or the fact that Ruvik's brain was trapped in a machine simulating a body that kept him alive but made him incapable to move in a quite "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream" fashion). The whole Mobius thing continuing up to the second game could be inspired from 1984 as well (it was funny seeing you confuse "O'Neal" with "O'Brien" too 😭), but maybe I'm just associating things that could be connected by mere coincidence.
There's some things that you said in the first two parts that left me confused though. When you're explaining Ruvik's background in around 30:07, you express that he created STEM in order to access his own mind and bring Laura back, but I don't know if this is what he aimed to do at first. There was a newspaper in the game that said that Laura had survived the fire but was in a vegetative state and Ruben's father kept that information from him, so Ruben thought she was dead until he discovers this after killing his parents. He had been experimenting before when he was a child, seeking for animal's fear or some freaky shit like that, but I think he developed STEM when he found out his sister was still alive and tried to bring her back through that, even if she passed away later on. It is stated that he had a complicated relationship with his father too like you said, and if I remember correctly it was because his father envied the close relationship Ruben had with Laura...? And after the fire he locked him up because he was embarrassed of him...? Man this family. Anyways. I'm not certain about this but that is what I gathered.
There's something about the posters that I agree it's strange. At first I believed that Joseph's poster was there because time in STEM is weird and maybe it showed the consequence of him disappearing in the real world after all those events? Maybe the twisted time in STEM connected Sebastian shooting himself in the first game with the future where Sebastian of the second game shooted his past Sebastian (woah). But this was bonkers. Sebastian shooting his past self was purely symbolic. The time thingy is barely used as a plot line and it's just mentioned. It makes less sense when you see Sebastian's missing poster too. Then I thought it was just to show all the people who was connected in the STEM and it was just a funny way to say this is how they would end up in the real world if they stayed trapped in there. It's still weird seeing the mix up between real missing people and the cast that was in the STEM for... 37 minutes? Damn.
Another thing is that in 1:01:44, you say that the massacre in Beacon Hospital wasn't exclusive to STEM, but wasn't the massacre staged by Mobius instead of one of Ruvik's doings? I remember the Administrator telling Kidman something about this before she was injected with some liquid at the beginning of her DLC, and this was done so she could take Leslie in the middle of that investigation, or so was the plan told to her. But it's still strange when the first thing we see is Ruvik killing the cops and we assume this was all his doing.
Also, Marcelo's smug attitude when he lets Mobius take Ruben away could be seen as strange, but to defend that a bit he did clarify in his voice messages that he thought Mobius would take Ruben in order to fix STEM and not to tear him apart and take his brain... which is actually foolish if you think about it. He was working with a shady organization and suddenly he didn't think that could've happened. Wow. Instances like these makes me feel better about joking with Marcelo's name in spanish (we joke around with this name and rhyme "Marcelo agachate y conocelo", which literally would mean "Marcelo get down and meet it" - basically Marcelo suck a dick), he's a bit dumb. I could understand if he felt quite close to Ruvik since he was the one who accepted him and followed him through his experiments and was shocked to see him like that, but having zero awareness of the outcome when he was messing with Mobius... well.
Either way, whether there's some points I agree or not, this video took me on a rollercoaster and made me appreciate the games more. I loved what you said about Sebastian and Kidman's relationship being similar to one of a father and daughter, which I haven't considered before even when appreciating the bond they formed at the end of TEW 2. It also felt disappointing seeing no symbolism for the monsters even though I loved their designs, specially Myra. Maybe they were trying to make a call-back to Ruvik with her clothes or maybe even making her some sort of "Virgin Mary", but it only made things a bit confusing.
I hope we can see TEW 3 soon. Just by seeing everyone fantasizing about it you can notice there's so much they can do and improve with this potential game that would establish it as a solid horror franchise. Will Ruvik come back as Leslie and complete its "revenge" to the world? What was that limbo mentioned in Syke's substory? Did Syke ever make it out alive in the real world or did he end up trapped? Could Joseph be trapped in the STEM as well? What about "the lost"? Why were the people inside the STEM beginning to change this time? And so on.
Anyways, sorry for the long comment. I got a bit excited when seeing this video in the morning and now I'm writing this at night after having many thoughts about it. TEW has many details that is possible to talk forever about them, I even discovered a couple more things thanks to this video. Great job in piercing a lot of it together and making a coherent video man, I really liked your insights about the story and the gameplay. Keep it up 😁😁

The first game has a special place in my heart. Never played it myself but a friend of mine and her sister were absolute HARDCORE fans of this game and I spent whole nights at their place watching them play while drawing, drinking coke and talking about the lore.
There are way too few new IPs these days that manage to get me excited anymore. And with all the obvious flaws with the gameplay, the lore and everything, or maybe even because of these campy flaws, it was just so refreshing and fun to get to know the lore, watch lets players play through it and read about theories online.

I remember being able to hide from Ruvik on my first playthrough under the dining room table and in one of the bedroom closets. I assume it's difficulty level that will determine whether he finds you or not. But I would always just loop him in the main hall in subsequent playthroughs when he spawned.

I liked your retrospective. I’m one of the people who prefer TEW2 over TEW1 but both games are great in their own ways

Same I thought 2 was an improvement in almost every aspect and Sebastian felt more like a hunter while still being completely vulnerable. Part 1 was great too though.

I don’t know anything about this game but I watched the whole thing and you got me interested in what you had to say.

Hey Brando, loving these long retrospective vids. Keep em coming!
A tip for the invisible enemies that I learned from a playthrough vid, use a flash bolt on them to make them visible and vulnerable to an execution.

Awe love you too best three hours I spent in a long time, and honestly a Joseph EW3 would be stellar, I bought both games but never finished them, just like I slept so hard on the Mass Effect series but I think I'll be checking in at old Beacon Hill real soon
