Midsommar is one of those movies that lies to you. It gives you sunlight and bright colors and smiles and laughter for MOST of the movie. But using those things, it shines on the real horror of the situation. She lost everything, and everyone that mattered to her. And because she was vulnerable, she was indoctrinated into a cult. If you watch the beginning (with the creepy sun), it spoils the entire story.
So interesting to see what people get from this movie. That it's a happy ending because she has a new family now. Or her liberation from a toxic relationship, but I see it as now she's just in a new one. Showing how a traumatized person can be pulled into a cult (a murdering racist one btw) through love bombing.
I totally agree. But what makes you think they are a racist cult. Just interested as I've seen this film so many times and can't see a reason for this. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

At 30:55 - "She's smiling?" In the director's notes, she is smiling because she is insane. "It is horrible, and it is beautiful." She has officially lost any and all connections to anything in her American past. She is now part of the cult, and she is in serious danger. But she is too far gone to know or care.
At 21:50 - "I don't get it. Do they dance until they're dizzy, and they hit each other and fall?" You are speeding through the scenes that would answer this question. They mentioned that, in their mythos, the "Black One" made them dance until they died. But here, they are putting a blessing in the May Pole dance. They took a drug to lower their inhibitions and to disorient them (like spinning around before hitting a pinata), and then they dance. It became a dance contest of stamina. The last one standing is the May Queen.
One of My favorite foreshadowing was the dance when they’re all sitting and the people in the cult are dancing. The dance called ‘skin the fool’, mark says something about it (like always) before being a fool and pissing on the family tree, resulting in being skinned (his face), dressed as a jester and stuffed with hay to be burned. Skin the fool.
7:05 You're the first person to say they have the same sense of anxiety like me! I am super uncomfortable with wide open spaces (like large fields, far out at sea) and really large objects (like that arch). I think it's a combination of megalophobia and kenophobia.
The boyfriend drank the red head’s “blood” with the pastry that had her “hairs” like the creepy quilt showed. Cults are scary and creepy. What this movie does so well just how uneasy and creepy the daylight can be. Most horror movies are surface level aesthetics, but this is about grief, break up, and over coming that, but in the most toxic way. It scares me how cults can take advantage of those who are vulnerable like Florence Pugh’s character. Even more so, the cinematography is just immaculate. I don’t know if I can revisit it anytime soon, but it has more to say that I really appreciate about this type of horror. Ari Aster just knows how to get under your skin from the building tension with atmosphere and an unnerving sensibility that doesn’t match the bright light and colors, but somehow it does.

At 14:57 - "Oh - we're just going to burn their bodies..." In all fairness... Cremation is a thing. Open-air pyres are also a thing. This is just creepy for us, the watchers, as cremation in America happens behind the closed door of the fire chamber, and we get to see the smashed faces of the elderly couple. But if you consider this is "just cremation," it's one less creepy thing. (Maybe. I'm totally a "we bury the dead" person in my customs, but this isn't the scary part. The graphic viewing of the bodies on the open air pyre is shocking, but nowhere near as bad as the death we just watched. But that's just me.)

The first time I watched this movie I never wanted to see it again. watched it with my bf at the time, there were two other couples in the theatre with us. One pair walked out during the seggs scene. I was tempted to myself. Funny though now it’s one of my favorites! It’s extremely well made and even beautiful at times, but I would never recommend it to anyone lol
This is actually not that bad of a representation of the holiday midsommar in sweden, minus the fucked up shit and with a lot more bbq and alcohol. The tale about the devil coming to Hårga and bewitching the youth to dance until their death that the lady was rambling on about in swedish tho, that's actual folklore in that part of sweden. And the old people throwing themselves off cliffs instead of growing old and sick is based on alleged history of people actually doing that in the past. Although as far as I can tell, there's no actual proof of it ever happening.
I also love horror movies but oh God the human centipede scarred me. I haven't watch Husk but I know the premise and I've seen pictures ... no thanks. This movie is refreshing it's a different kinda of horror.

Since you said you like horror i hope you'll do more horror movie reactions. Also, your skin and your hair look stunning here! x
I love your videos, Jay! I really like horror but I'm also a super jumpy girl. You make me feel more comfortable to watch scary movies lol.😭💗
@3:44 I Never Noticed The Picture Until You Mentioned It & I've Watched This Movie A Couple Times 🤯🥴 Midsommar & Its Foreshadowing! 🙃🤣
& Ofcourse, I Wanted To Let You Know I've Been A Fan Since Your Euphoria Reactions. I Had To Come Thru & Watch This Wonderful Reaction 🤣👑💕
Ahhh thank you so much!! Im glad you stuck around for lil ol' me 💕
At 14:57 - "Oh - we're just going to burn their bodies..." In all fairness...
Apparently this was a "break-up" movie
One of the most traumatic break ups I've seen...
Girl, this is one out of 4 movies i can't re-watch. This gave me so many nightmares 😂
Hey, I just found your channel. Great reaction! Ari Aster is a talented director. But, he's also a sick lunatic.
MISS MAM THAT NOTE WHEN YOU SAID " Ooo what was that?..... No.." YOU SOUND LIKE KIERRA CLARK SHEARD. AND THAT'S MY FAVORITE FEMALE MUSIC(GOSPEL) ARTIST.
BY THE WAYYY in the beginning you said it was giving hereditary vibes, it's actually by the same director!!!
I looked it up after and saw!!!!
At 19:42 - "They took his face?" Yup. They "skinned the fool."
I have never subscribed to a unknown youtuber (TO ME) in 22 seconds of the first video...until now!!!
I feel so accomplished 💕
@@jaymeetsworld1 💗
She found a new family, she's happy, yey
She's in a cult, she's been mindraped. Not yay at all.
heyy bestie!! i love youuu :)
okay but I love you moreeee
It’s hilarious how you look and talk off to the side I’m assuming it’s to the view finder but it makes me feel like I’m watching you get interviewed lol😂
Would love to hear your thoughts on the new movie Fresh on Hulu! I was wayyyyy too into Sebastian Stan
oouuuuu maybe ill watch it for yall!!
1:06 l cant even get myself to watch that movie, i seen 2 clips and said that was ENOUGH. 💀
Hope you can join us in Sweden for the once every other 91 years midsommar celebration. It's a lot more fun and no bears, just ignore the tiger.
I'll have to pass Ted 😂😂😂
@@jaymeetsworld1 awwww I really want to wear a potted plant on my head this year. 😋
Check red velvet's cosmic music video if u watched that movie 💀💀
The first time I watched this movie I never wanted to see it again.
watched it with my bf at the time, there were two other couples in the theatre with us. One pair walked out during the seggs scene. I was tempted to myself.
Funny though now it’s one of my favorites!
It’s extremely well made and even beautiful at times, but I would never recommend it to anyone lol
Not their periods syncing up😂
Ponder this. They get all excited about 8 dancers being left but they don't say why
and Paimon is the 8th king of hell
Your spidey senses were right. lol I had the same dread and JUST watched it a week ago. I live near Sweden now. Help! 😂😂😂
i was waiting for this!!!
Funny reaction you're really tuned in.
lol amazing reaction. I really liked the movie. You picked up another subscriber 😉
ahh yay!!! welcome!! 💕
Ooo just found this. Nice! Fun fact: The sign above the road says “Stop mass immigration. Vote Free North”
I see my interpretation was way off lol
Haha, gotta love the warning though, foreigners stay away. Maybe they should have written it In English 😆
I love Florence Pugh sm
she's sooooo good
i’ve never heard anyone pronounce “ethereal” like that I LIVE @2:13
I always thought human centipede was horrific until I saw Tusk.....LAWD that was on another level.
I would rewatch human centipede any day over tusk 😩
is the walrus one? i saw a pic of the guy as the walrus with all the skin stitches, ick ick ick
@@Goldflower220 yup
To be fair it is kinda of like a fairytale. The old messed up kind though 😂
Never go on holiday into the forest in Sweden. Never.
don’t have to tell me twice!
you should react to skins "pieles" on netflix it's weirder and even more traumatizing
I’m glad you liked it! This is sick but every time I watch it feels more and more like an actual vacation
Where can I find this movie??
I think it’s on showtime right now
Hot Girl Midsommar I cant
So the part when he saw the guy in the chicken coop or house the guy was alive and they took his lungs & put it out like a certain type of eagle it how Vikings use to kill people but they have to bleed out to die
Idk what kind of drugs you'd have to be on to watch this movie but never again
lol i’m def watching again to see what I missed 😵💫
The fact that Simon was still alive and breathing made me say nope I’m done
Great movie and review, wonder if you'll watch hereditary
I’ve seen it! It’s one of my favs!
