    The Traxxas TRX4 is a very heavy truck to start with. In this video I'm talking about adding some unsprung weight, and what that actually means in case you aren't familiar with it. A company that has been quick to release some high quality, well produced items for the Traxxas TRX4 is Samix RC. They are based out of Hong Kong and make a wide variety in RC upgrades for a ton of different platforms.
    Because of the high mass, I have selected a few of their machined brass Traxxas TRX4 upgrades. Samix RC makes portal covers, steering hubs and knuckles, bottom spring retainers and link mounts in this material. They are covered in a black finish to avoid corrosion, and the installation of them is very straight forward. Take the plastic bits off, and replace them with the brass parts after relocating the bearings and gears.
    I also installed a full titanium high clearance link set, also produced by Samix. These are easy to install, they are all laser etched to tell you their location. Samix offers different sets of links, I went for the full set which contains bottom links front and back, top links front and back and steering and servo links.
    The icing on the cake must be the machined brake discs and calipers. Of course for looks only, they sure add some nice detail to the truck and will assist me in my eventual goal of making the Traxxas TRX4 look and act more realistic out on the trails.

    You mentioned not wanting to add to much rotational mass. Does the aluminium wheels add much weight? I imagine they weigh much more than the plastic stock ones?

  • @RcNickster709
    @RcNickster709 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Awesome!! A bit of brass down low is a excellent way of adding some weight. I wonder is there room for beef tubes in these style axles.. Brass is great for weight and they look awesome. Thanks for sharing.. :)

    • @hemistormrc

      Very easy to mount, no problems at all. The machined locations for the bearings and such were spot on, I can't say anything negative about it to be honest. When I started on the links I thought it would be a bit of figuring out, and then noticed everything was laser etched. Top quality.

    Nice video and very informative. I was thinking of the Gmade SR03 wheels for mine, but now I'm not sure about the rotating masses. Might be a bit late, but I would really like to see what angle the truck tips over when its all plastic vs the brass... just to see how much actual difference it makes. Keep up the high quality vids :)

    You can use some metal diff covers to add some unsprung weight also. Wonder what links are considered, sprung or unsprung weight. I've been making my own steel lowers forever now and always used aluminum for the uppers thinking they might be a 50/50 type weight. Your above and below the shock theory may be correct but I always thought anything the shocks are holding up is sprung weight, no matter where it's placed. The only true unsprung weight would be on the axles.

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The links are indeed an interesting topic there. My initial instinct would say the bottom 50% adds to unsprung weight. I'm going to see if I can find an answer to it!

      Hi Josh! If you can fit a front diff case from a 4x4, the output shaft to where it would go to the centre diff will give you some options to install a servo brake for example. I assume you want to build a line locker system, right?

      Hi Daniel, the JK will get out as soon as the weather isn't downright dangerous. We currently have frozen rain on the ground, not the best of circumstances! In regards to how these trucks are engineered, there is indeed a lot going on in the TRX4. Which has it's charm for sure, but sometimes less is more. I hope it will stay intact.

      I love the look of that Bronco! I think they understand the market very well, are taking criticism to heart and are quickly making steps to cater to the customers.

    Would love to see you do a comparison video of some kind between this and the Gmade Komodo!

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nathan, I've seen the Komodo up close a few times and have run one, and it would not stand a chance against the TRX4, different price class too.

    So do u recommend trx4 or the hpi venture

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really hard to compare the two, to be honest. I think they're very different to drive, the HPI being a bit more capable, the Traxxas having a lot more features you can play around with.

    It won't corrode, it will oxidise= go from shiny yellow to dull brown/green protective oxidisation. Most plumbing fittings are brass and last for ever.

      You break a front shaft? Maybe because of the Mamba and the 2280? Ha ha i do some realy though trailrides and break no transmission part yet but with stoch motor ESC on 3S. Please show us more of your TRX4 driving vids ,there must be some real though trails out there.

    Unsprung weight is everything on the axle outside of the spring mount my friend so the rest of the axle housing and your knuckles and hub and wheel and tire assembly.

    • @hemistormrc
      @hemistormrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In a ground vehicle with a suspension, the unsprung mass (or the unsprung weight) is the mass of the suspension, wheels or tracks (as applicable), and other components directly connected to them, rather than supported by the suspension.
