Jagged little pill is one of my all time favorite albums. I was born in 1979 so I’ve come up through the 90’s grunge era and am very fluent in all kinds of music. When this album dropped it was so unlike anything else on the radio. Granted, you outta know was a banger and put her on the map. But there’s so many other great songs. This one, perfect, see right through you, all I really want, hand in my pocket!!! Just an absolutely timeless fucking album.
As a Canadian, I freakin' love Alanis Morissette, but, I always find it odd that when folks react to her music, they don't realize that, before becoming the iconic force showcased by this video, she was a dance-pop singer first. Just once, for shits & giggles, I would like to see someone react to her premier video in 1991, titled Too Hot...that's the best way to fully appreciate her evolution sparked by Jagged Little Pill.

Love the song. I've heard others point out that much of what she uses as examples of irony in the lyrics are not irony at all. Most are just unfortunate situations, but they are not typically what one would define as ironic.
they all ironic, wtf are you all talking about. the irony of a rainy day when is your 1 time wedding day. it couldn't just not raining that 1 day.
@@wishtheyunderstoodme I would start by looking at the definition of irony. Irony involves a contrast or incongruity between expectations and reality.
There is no inherent expectation that it will not rain, nor is there a contrast between expectation and reality that would constitute irony.
It is simply unfortunate it rained that day.
A case could be made for actual irony on some of the other examples in the lyrics, but others are clearly just unfortunate incidents with no incongruity between expectations and reality.
Man this brings back memories. I wore this cd out. Jagged Little Pill. She never received the accolades she deserved. I love her!!!
I feel she's also seeing the big picture, how things balance the universe out.. too many good things have to be balanced or checked with something not so good.. and sometimes we get the good things and sometimes we get the bad.. life does have a funny way of "helping you out!"
Alanis was always Amazing.... But after seeing her in the movie Dogma I developed a HUGE crush. Haha, she's so freaking cute its crazy. lol. Along this line of music; consider Michelle Branch.. Amazing voice... And not that it matters, but also quite the cutie. lol
You should check out the video where she sings this song with her daughter, I love her and we all went crazy first hearing her and love her to this day.
I used to rent a house 🏠 n Silver Lake Wisconsin and they were filming the movie Amityville Horror with Ryan Reynolds. I had a chance to meet him but i didn’t want to bother him because i knew the security guards that worked on the movie. Back then Ryan used to be engaged to Alanis Morissette. Obviously they are not together anymore. I had a chance to meet her too back then. I watched the movie because I knew most of the locations where they filmed the movie

Reminds me of when I was a single mom with kids (I had no parents as they passed away) and getting cancer treatment. My landlord decided to sell the duplex I lived in. She also charged me to update the duplex. I was too ill to fight it. About a month or so after I was out and she remodeled the duplex, I got a call from her. The water heater exploded and flooded the basement and destroyed a lot of the updates. Ironic or karma, not sure.

LOVE me some Alanis!!! Jagged Little Pill is still a record I would want while stranded on an island! I wore that CD out back in the day! You Oughtta Know is my favorite! She was getting over her long relationship with Dave Coulier from Full House! There is an acoustic version of this record, too! Love her so much!!

It is a great song but I just wanted to pass along that you are correct in getting through depression is seeing the the irony and laughing about it. Laughing is the key to overcoming depression...

She is great! She is also married to Mario Treadway (known as Souleye) and he is a rapper, hip-hop artist like yourself. He grew up a few houses up from us in central Massachusetts where his parents still live.

I remember this song came out when I was 15. And the video dropped before the album came out. I remember meeting up at the lockers with my group of friends the morning after the video dropped and everybody talking about who stayed up late to watch the video and who didn't, and how cool the video was...just for different versions of herself singing in this car. Thank you for the trip down memory lane. Alanis had always and will always be one of my favorites! She is unabashedly herself and completely unique. Love her!

Alanis grew up in Ottawa and was on a TV show called "you can't do that on television" She was a popular teenie pop artist while still in high school (Glebe Collegiate), "too hot" was one of her hits at that time. She was briefly engaged to fellow Canadian, Ryan Reynolds.
C'mon my guy...it IS cold AF there! She got the car and had to roll the windows down because there was no heat, and if you leave them up - the windows ice over! She's now a dual US/Canadian citizen...

It's nice to see her getting popular again with young people who didn't know about her from obscurity to Super stardom in a little over 1 year back in the late 90s. A lot of Alanis's good songs never had videos made so if you wanna listen to the audio version of Her song "Forgiven" from Jagged Little Pill that would be a good one along with "Perfect" might have a video or a live performance, but yeah, a
lot of her good songs on her albums were NEVER released on radio or in a videos. And also watching Alanis live really shows a testament to her voice, how much she didn't have auto-tunes at all in any of her albums. That's how good she is with her unique voice. Finally she also date and was engaged to fellow Canadian Actor who plays Deadpool Ryan Reynolds for a bit but they decided to not proceed and went their seperate ways

Regarding Canadians dominating the music industry - back in the 1990's the Big 4 (for women artists anyhow) were Alanis, Sarah Mclaughlin, Celine Dion and Shania Twain.

Not afraid to admit, 6th grade, along with E.1999 Eternal, Operation Stackola, Coolio, Friday Soundtrack, Skee-Lo and Westside Connection, I was banging Jagged Little Pill in my Discman.
In 2010, Morisette married the artist MC Souleye (born Mario Treadway) and today the couple shares three children. Her album, Jagged Little Pill, sold over 33 million copies. On it, is the bitch song, You Otta Know, that is a stunner. because sadly, she was abused like many young girls trying to make it in the business.
Hands Clean (Under Rug Swept), is the real bitch song and it is on her second album not the Jagged Little Pill album. None of the reactors on here have reacted to Hands Clean (Under Rug Swept), so you would be first if you react to it. Alanis was one of the very first and possibly the first to start the "Me Too" movement. Alanis has never really named her molester when she was only 14 but it wasn't Harvey Weinstein. It was someone else.
Fun fact: Since Jay and Silent Bob exist in Scream 3, that means Alanis is God in the Scream series.
