My 19yo daughter just got back to Phoniex from Utah. She was camping/hiking. She is likely blistering today, but I haven't seen her yet. She's still in bed. I gave her sunscreen for the trip, but she didn't apply to her legs because it was overcast. Before she left, I warned her that she can still get burned even when it's cloudy...she didn't listen. She got home last night and was in tears. Her legs were a color of red I've only seen once before...on myself. I put together a concoction of aloe and lidocaine. She seemed to sleep through the night, but sunscreen is SO important, even when it's cloudy. I think because we live in Phoenix, she didn't think the sun in cloudy Utah would be so bad....she was wrong. Wear your SPF!!!

Another trick that helps quickly with the sting is a vinegar soaked cloth from the fridge. Can take the sting out (not the redness) in just a couple of hours.

For anyone in a budget you can’t beat Altruist from Amazon, created by a dermatologist for non profit . 400 ml spf 50 for less than £10 is incredible value and it sits well under makeup for me.

Glad to see you've included some budget ones (I trusted that you would 😉). The trouble with expensive ones is that it's tempting to treat them like precious ointments and not use enough. It also seems like every manufacturer says their products are non-greasy whether they are or not (I have a similar beef with hand creams that all say they're for dry hands). I like the texture of the beauty pie ones too.

I think the garnier ambre solaire super uv range is my holy grail. My local Boots was pretty much sold out but managed to get the over make up spray and the last hyalorounic acid one there was. My main issue is bad white casts / stingy eyes, but wow none of those issues with the super uv spf's. I need to pick up a few more now

I’m not sure I’d brand Lancaster as a cult following, luxury, market niche, and although becoming slightly easier to find, that wasn’t always the case. Skinceuticals on the other hand, yes.
Lancaster is what brought me here. I’ve loved a lot of products that I’ve tried over the past couple years … jumped from the la roche posay from this video because it had such a white cast (but now they actually have the tinted version and did when I bought it years ago but all the great London influencers; Lisa Eldridge who has cult following and I ADORE😂 said it needed to be that) I blindly trusted her and declined the tinted range.
But after a year or two Id finally used up all the bottles and needed to move in to something better.
Lancaster is great but the newest one I bought (because I trusted all the other products I’ve tried and seen good reviews) im now seeing that it piles SO bad!! And I bought 2 face creams at the time of purchase.
It goes on really nice but immediately starts piling. And I’m going to try and stick it out … like I did with Roche but I honestly don’t know if I can…
Ok, end rant. I know only my sunscreen skincare ladies and maybe men here?? Would get it.
My husband would prolly listen too 😂😂 but I’m not sure I should bore him with what I feel are such dramatics.
Also Lancaster water proof body milk is literally impossible to remove!!!!! And ocean friendly.
The sun perfect illuminating cream spf 30 no tint is the piler. I’ve tried EVERYTHING!!

I don’t understand how the Garnier Super UV Sensitive Light SPF50 product can be aimed at sensitive skin when the second ingredient on the ingredients list is Alcohol Denat. As a Paula’s Choice convert years ago, and from my own bitter experience, I know alcohol denat is a no no for most sensitive skins!! I am using the Dr Sam SPF 50 Daily Sunscreen at the moment and getting on really well with it. No breakouts or stinging and it sits well under my makeup. I am using a separate moisturiser as well though. I also love the Paula’s Choice Mineral SPF 30 from the Calm range. There’s a version for both oily and dry skin and both of them are lovely, which means you can put enough on to get to the SPF30 rating! In addition, the Dr Sam and the Paula’s Choice are fragrance free which is also important to my sensitive skin.

I never tried anything from Skinceuticals, but maybe now is the time. I just bought the Vichy Slow Age SPF 25 fluid, which I really like to be honest, it’s a great product. I’m using Caudalie SPF 50 milky spray for all over my body, and sometimes even for my face, because it says it’s for body and face. Makes my skin super smooth and smells really nice. This is my go-to SPF for my dry skin that’s also very reactive to ingredients, it’s kind of sensitive, so I really have to be careful with my skin care. You are just amazing, just found you the other day and wanted you to know that. Because of you I’m going to purchase Bioderma shower oil and Atoderm Intensive Balm! ;) Thanks so much!

I just got the La Roche Posay Age Correct SPF50. I used it a few times only, but it did seem to pill under my make-up. Although, that may be due to the Revolution Pore Blur primer that I used on top. I always wait 15 minutes before applying makeup, but the primer might have reacted with the SPF. Obviously, the SPF is much more important than makeup.

if an unprotected skin burns in 5 minutes, it will burn in 150 minutes when protected by an SPF30 sunscreen, and in 300 minutes when protected by an SPF50+ sunscreen. By design, SPF50+ is doubling the protection compared to SPF30 or SPF30+.

    • @meganfc7094

That is still VERY high. Higher than a majority of spfs on the market!! It has a ppd of 45 which is higher than the altriust one as that is an spf 50 not an spf 50+. The altriust is an spf 50 with 5 star rating in the spf 50 catogory but garnier spf 50 + is 3 but still higher uva protection that altriust! Remember the boots star rating is rather complex in that a spf 50+ with three stars is very very high. The only ones I know higher are P20 for kids x

Hi Nadine, thank you for posting great content. A question, is there a difference in how much SPF one should use for optimal protection for each of the formulas? I recently purchased Ultrasun FaceFluid SPF50 UVB+UVA PA++++ and inside it's packaging it says to apply 1 finger length stripe on your face and 1 finger length stripe of product on your neck and ears, you mentioned 2 finger length strips of product for the face and ears and then 1 for the neck... and then some say a 1/4 of a teaspoon and some say 1 teaspoon - any thoughts on what's correct? I'm obviously talking about products that are just SPFs, not moisturizers/foundations with added SPF :-) Thank you :-)
