I think the thing that impressed me the most about the series was the lack of cynicism and the general willingness of the boys to take part and give their best shot at whatever they did. This lack of cynicism is very rare in British life in general nowadays.
I binged watched this documentary the whole weekend. Hugh's track is interesting and quite a monumental task. As someone who's already working, seeing their journey is quite inspirational.
'my family are cavemen and don't have sky' sums up everything about these kids' privilege. I've grown up in a fairly middle class family and have never had sky
watched the original programme...loved it, to see the warmth and respect shown between the staff and boys was great. Nice to see positive programmes about teen boys.
Andreas is studying at Durham (I’m there too, I’ve seen him a few times!), Sachin is at Oxford, Giles is at Kent, and Marco (the guy who beat Andreas for that solo thing) is playing Evan in Dear Evan Hansen!
the school has hall of fame where loads of famous (kind of world famous people mostly in politics) , also private club house, with private ice skating hall, hoggy, and the lovely golf course. LOVE IT!
I kind of wish all British young men were like this. But not in regards to accent/dialect or social class, but in regards to polite behavior, if that makes sense. I love the fact that the UK has so many different accents and dialects
Would like an update now. Be good to know who has followed the path they chose back then, who's life turned out different. Are any of them married or have kids?
would love to do what they have done and be able to do all of that but not at a young age. loves these three in the show nice people so glad they have got to uni and all of that i love uni but its only my first year so will have more work in years to come if i stay in i hope. also like Hugh lol glad they're all doing good.
How are some of these kids getting opportunities when they didn't finish University i.e IT or accountancy firms....Can somebody enlighten me on this pls. Thanks
It’s probably because of the old boys network and they explained in the show. And it’s where the old boys can go and talk to anyone who was a former student at the school and that usually helps them get higher jobs at a younger age and also probably because they’re rich and have good connections
Hugh, you are hilarious. David Brent type moment - I'm studying chemistry, biology, calculus.....and (wait for it) Marcel Proust! - it's the way you said... lol I may be a Wykehamist (Winchester College), but enjoyed the series when it was on....should have gone to Harrow ;)
i went to see my boyfriend (which was really hard to get in this boading traditional school) LOL need connection with head of Latin lang subject Ian Right LOL thanks for allowing me to get into Harrow School. Love to see guys there carrying hat all the time, and uniform is extremely classy and perfect. if i have a son (hahah if possible) he must go to Harrow school ONLY!. Love it
Yeh not a fan of harrow or the private school system... why should anyone be set for life simply because they had rich parents when there are so many others who have to work for what they get?
vetren23 I assure you, it may be advantageous that their parents pockets have silver lining but the work put in by those who attend private school is immense. It is more to do with the attitude and not with the financial circumstances of the pupil.
Possibly or some of them got lucky in their business or some of they inherited their wealth. But yes it's probable that a reasonable percentage of them achieved it though hard effort you're completely right. These kids however have done nothing of the sort, they may well come from wealthy stock but that doesn't mean by any stretch of the imagination that they should get any sort of head start in life. After all it is their parents not them who has worked. This system leads to the creation of a rigid and inflexible class system where a higher standard of education for the children of wealthy elites and the connections granted to them through their social status means they too will become elites in their own right and have children who will be put through the same private education leading to the same benefits. Overall it is systems like these which make mobility between classes so restricted and damage the incentive to work as there is little chance to move up in life. Private schooling therefore is against the very idea of meritocracy or capitalism.
Emily // ℋ Yeh true let's say only 20% of people could pass the test to get in, those 20% of people are all equally deserving of that level of education yet due to monetary reasons rather than reasons of intellect only a tiny minority of that 20% will be able to get in.
Hugh still wants to do EVERYTHING.

aucourant I can only guess you're less likely to become cynical and pessimistic when you are given the opportunities they have... --
+angerock49 I believe the mannerisms and attitudes are learned behaviours. I don't think class dictates happyness at all.

I need to find it on Spotify

I think he is selling real estate in NYC.
They're all so well-spoken! It's so hard to find boys like them nowadays, if only I was a couple of years older haha!
That's what silver spoons do
Cos these guys went to one of Britain's elite schools, no other reason for it.
'my family are cavemen and don't have sky' sums up everything about these kids' privilege. I've grown up in a fairly middle class family and have never had sky
They start like that, than turn into me unfortunately
this made me really happy to see these guys again! Really miss seeing them on sky!
We miss them too. Thanks for watching!
