Imagine Reimu gets in, and then someone trying to identify where all of her individual Smash moves comes from has to embark on a decade long research jaunt into every Touhou game, spin-off, fan game, animation, idol show, etc.
That bit at the end about Touhou's fanbase is so accurate - it's easy to attribute it to ZUN saying that you can do whatever you want with his properties as long as you don't spoil the endings, but I think it's more than that. Sure, the main Touhou games are rough - midi music, sub-par sprites and a difficulty wall harder to overcome than Berlin's - but the foundation it creates: remixes of the music, interpretations of the character art, fan games; these wouldn't exist without the solid foundation built by ZUN. Touhou is probably Japan's biggest Indie series and a cultural icon there, it's strongly kept its relevancy because of the fans. I think Reimu should be the Indie fighter in Ultimate. Marisa? Sure, I could see her as a playable character. Hell, I could even see her being the Sheik to Reimu's Zelda, or the Charizard to Reimu's Squirtle+Ivysaur... But as for Sakuya? Eeehhh... Like, I know she's a fan favourite, but I would sooner see her as an Assist or a stage cameo/hazard (along with Youmu, Sanae and possibly Reisen, Cirno and Aya).

The Touhou Project started as one man making games that he want to play and just boom in popular in the window era. With a ever growning casts of girls with open end for fans to fill in themselves and with Zun be chill about how people uses his characters with a few rules. Marisa would likely be an alternate costume/color scheme for Reimu, unless Sakurai decided to do something like give Reimu a full on echo fighter, which while possible, isn't likely.

I would give her the PC-98 costume as an alt, and for her victory animations, one where she presents her donation box to the camera with a smile like saying "I won, can I get a donation?" an after a minute or something she changes her expression to "7n7" Nice job, dude, hopefully some day Reimu will join the fight, a man can dream
Sometimes characters can be obvious inclusions, and sometimes not. Today was a mixture of both in a sense! Touhou is basically an unofficial series that runs on it's fans alone, and that's possibly the best kind of community, similar to TF2 and FNAF. Much better than communities that rely on whether or not something is good, balanced, or a business deal anyway. I don't know much about the Touhou games, but I'm a huge supporter of Reimu in Smash, and with 5 more challenger packs, who knows? Maybe Sakurai will join that community as well... I'll stick to mainly Japanese characters for this weeks requests. I'm sure you know Ninja Gaiden's popularity across the world, and it's culturally brilliant protagonist Ryu at the center of it all. He would share a name with Street Fighter's character, but hey, we have 2 Roys. I've also gotta mention Godzilla again if it's Japanese heroes. People love him like a pop-star, and I don't blame them! There's also countless Pokemon based on Yo-Kai, such as Electabuzz or Dusknoir, or maybe even another Yo-Kai Watch fighter like Enma or Insomni. The choices are limitless over on the culture-behemoth of a peninsula that is Japan! Whatever your choices be, Reimu was a great one, no doubt, and you handled her so well! Zero, would be sweet, I imagine he would use the chain rod or the z knuckle for his grab, with either a hit strike or the life drain move from z2 as the pummel. I think the recoil rod charge attack would be quite interesting, as both a kill move with the massive knockback, and as a mobility tool by pogoing off of enemies and the ground. I imagine it would probably be used as a down air, although the triple rod would work too.

Alright here are my requests for characters: Henry Stickmin: I'm hoping his move-set would be as crazy as Hero. Cynthia from Pokemon: We gotta get a Trainer move-set for a Pokemon Champion (also if I may specifically request her Pokemon; there's Garchomp and Spiritomb). Hong Meiling/Sakuya from Touhou Project: Cause I already requested Reimu Hakurei and they (well Meiling specifically) are my fav from the series. Finally.... uhhh actually, while I do have one more specific request, I'm EXTREMELY hesitant to request this character due to... touchy circumstances (It's NOT an H-game character don't worry) mostly due to the infamy outside their game of origin. Maybe I'll mention the character by name and give my reasoning long after this vid is uploaded. Hey, I have some ideas I have been thinking for years I can finally use, so i really hope BrawlFan could read them: First, i think it would be better the original Red, since the original is from a videogame and the other is from a movie. The moveset: Neutral special- Red takes out a slingshot and launches itself to the rival. Forward special- Red launches Jim Jay and Jake with the slingshot, as long as you press the button, the longer they will go. Down special- Bomb comes to help Red, causing an explosion. Up special- Matilda takes Red and launches an explosive egg that impulse them to go higher. (The egg can also damage the rivals) Smash attacks: Down- Hal appears and spins, hitting with his long beak Up- Bubbles inflates, hitting some of the rivals. Forward- Stella takes out some bubbles that damage the enemy. Aerials: Nair- Hal spins and damages the enemy. Uair- Stella blows some bubbles in a short range. B and Fair- Bubbles appears and hits the enemy. Dair- Silver uses the ability she has on the Angry Birds 2 game. Well, until now we have almost every angry bird, there's only Chuck and Terence left: Chuck could appear when Red runs, the speed from Chuck would almost the same as Sonic. Terence would help when using the shield, since Red has no arms. Grabs: Red takes the enemy with the slingshot and launches it. Final Smash: I have 2 ideas here: 1- You can launch a fish wherever you want on the battlefield, then, Mighty Eagle appears causing a destruction. 2- (You need to hit the enemy) Red launches with the slingshot, if you hit an enemy, there's a secuence where you see every single Angry Bird launching against the enemy. Costumes: Red, Chuck, Bomb, Stella, Bubbles, Hal, Silver, Matilda. (When using an attack that appears some of this, it would be done alone; for example, when using down special, where bomb appears, and you are using bomb's skin, bomb would use the attack alone) Sorry if I said something wrong, because I am Mexicain d:
No, please, not the movie design. Not only I hate the movies, it just doesn't represent the games well. Just use the original design. It's simple, a classic, and recognizable. You might say it can't be animated properly because it's limbless, but remember Angry Birds Epic, or Angry Birds Toons. Both prove that the original bird design can be animated really well. Also, it's Sakurai we're talking about, the guy who gave personality to a freaking potted plant. And also Brawlfan, the guy who made a moveset for a literal blob. But overall, I definitely approve of putting Red in the game. I just don't want any reference to the movies, or any game originated from the movies, like Angry Birds Evolution. Also, he wouldn't be able to have any moves from Angry Birds Star Wars or Angry Birds Rio, of course. I'm not shaming you if you like the movie, but I just think the Movie and the Games should be treated as two completely different things.

Personally with Reimu, I feel like with the gigantic plethora of characters each with extremely unique character designs, there’s a ton of fun that could be had with alternate skins referencing the other youkai and and inhabitants of Gensokyo besides the default color change

A great move set all around speaking as someone that enjoys the series a fair bit. My only major criticisms is I feel Reimu should use more projectiles in tandem with her physical attacks in her regular moves...and the fact that her PC-98 design not being an alternate color/costume is a massive crime towards humanity and you should feel bad for its exclusion

If you know that, you probably know what happens now. However, you have to collect essence to use this. You have to collect 100 essence to transform into GPZ, meaning you need to land 100 hits. It does not matter who you attack, the essence meter fills regardless. *Gimmicks:* GPZ will be significantly fast and heavier. His attacks also now do a *_LOT_* more damage and knockback. _List of the moves that changed:_ Dash attack: Now turns into a mobile version of jab Stilt: Swings nails from high to low Usmash: Jumps upwards, and then falls down, slamming his nail into the ground to summon a powerful shockwave which only goes up Dsmash: Falls through floor, then falls from ceiling, creating 2 small shockwaves when he lands Nair: Sticks out limbs instead of flailing Fthrow: Backhands foe Uthrow: Suplex throw, like King K. Rool Dthrow: Jumps into floor, then crashes into opponent from above Nspecial: Changes to a spit and can now summon 3 Zotelings Sspecial: Can throw stuff much further Uspecial: Large jump upwards, on a scale similar to Dedede's *Final Smash:* _Eternal Ordeal and the 57 precepts:_ Zote will let out a large roar, catching anyone near enough. This will then turn to a cinematic where an abnormal amount of Zotelings stampede the opponent, ending with the head of Zote, with Zote riding it, will crash into the opponent, doing massive damage. If the opponent is at exactly 57% when the smash ends, they will be automatically KOed.
Punk, Enker, and Ballade. Enker will be fast and lightweight with many fast attacks. Punk will be slow and heavy with attacks with lots of buildup, but with a TON of damage. I don’t know about Ballade.
I actually like it when BrawlFan1 makes movesets for more obscure characters, because then people can learn more about different characters, instead of cashing in on a dead meme like Henry Stickman.
I’ve been waiting for this one for a LONG time! I imagine that the initial thumbnail was a reference to how you would scream in rage when losing the game after getting so far! (Or the video “Touhou players provide a realistic simulation of life in Gensokyo”)
I actually was imagining Reimu to be a more projectile heavy character. Like fill the entire screen with projectile heavy. HEAR ME OUT. Just like in the fighting games, Reimu's projectiles have a special property unique only to her. They can be grazed. As long as you are dashing you are immune to all projectiles on screen from Reimu. This will put a unique spin to the projectile zoner archetype. A reimu will have to consider when and where to throw her curtain of bullets, or else the opponent can literally just unga bunga into her. In all the official fighting games so far, all characters can dash through projectiles to "graze" them. Spending meter to do so. Without that mechanic, the projectiles in those games would literally be impossible to deal with and everyone would just hug the end of the screen while spamming projectiles. In the original games, grazing is a mechanic which rewards risk taking courageous players for doing "near misses" with points. To graze you gotta get real close to those bullets to rack up high scores. Encouraging you into doing wreckless things and is also a teaching tool that teaches players how to play touhou properly. To move as economically as possible rather than zooming blindly around the screen. The grazing in the fighting games if implenented in smash does the same thing. Encourage Reimu and her opponents into playing recklessly, dashing towards Reimu to avoid her projectiles, knowing Reimu can proceed to body you once you get close enough by your willingly approaching her. Projectiles can be used to lure opponents into Reimu where as foolish reimus or simply smart opponents can use Reimu's projectiles against her to approach.
This moveset is amazing, but hot diggity dang was that Ibuki sprite a shocker in a good way!! Makes sense since Ibuki is my favorite Danganronpa character of all time (not counting fangames of course)!! You seriously need to do a Monokuma and/or Ibuki Mioda moveset, you coward!! :P (I`m not trying to be mean, the coward part is more of a joke.)
I would really like henry stickmen he has so many options for moves bc there are so many options in the games his smash could be he flies in with the toppat clan or the military and they start raining bullets down on screen but if u want to do a meme I would suggest he does the distraction dance and it makes all foes fall asleep or charles will fly and crash into the arena doing massive knockback

Yay Reimu! Honestly I would prefer Cirno but realistically Reimu has the biggest chance. Either way I would love to get any Touhou character cause I really feel like this series deserves a slot in the roster.
I'm really happy to see this video. Reimu is my favorite character and Touhou is my favorite series, so of course I would love to see them in Smash. I think that Reimu would have a special gimmick like a lot of the other DLC characters. I think she would have a "grazing" mechanic. It would work like a combination of the grazing mechanic from the bullet hell games, and the power-up system from those same games. She would start out with weak or simple attacks, but her attacks would get stronger or more complex if she keeps narrowly avoiding damage. Just one correction though, the fangames are NOT canon. ZUN allows his fans to make their own Touhou content and sell them, but they're not official or anything. Like, it's not like he works with them on the games and they don't have to ask him for permission either. He pretty much just lets his fans do almost whatever they want. He's great like that.

Here's some requests - Henry Stickmin. Also even though it was dumb I think he should have a move where you can pick one of four random options (or, like you did with Sora, just give him a ton of special moves) - Pokemon Trainer Unova, Kalos, Alola and Galar (For Kalos and Alola, I feel they would get the Charizard treatment and keep the fully evolved Alola starter already in smash in their team of 3 starters) - Plusle and Minun as a duo character - Dr. Zomboss - Terrarian - Cal Kestis from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order - Gallade (Or a Pokemon Trainer with Gallade) - Any TABS unit. I feel having one unit to represent each faction would be fun, so how bout the Chieftain and the Peasant (Also I personally would have them use attacks from other units in their faction)
It's worth mentioning that the entry in the Guinness World Records is a mistranslation. The original word "doujin" more accurately translates to "self-published" or "indie" in this context. The mistake comes from the fact that most doujin works tend to be based on other properties, however original doujin works like Touhou do exist.
Two things First, seeing this video again really makes me want to see a moveset for Marisa, because honestly is pretty amazing your video! Second, I think her final smash should had been fantasy nature, her last word in a lot of games, but at the same time fantasy seal is also a very good option becuase is more known that fantasy nature
Fantasy Seal should be part of her regular moveset rather than being a Final Smash, bombs are a big part of the Touhou shmups and if Terry can have his supers as part of his normal moveset then Reimu can have a bomb mechanic. There could be something like a "bomb meter" that fills up as Reimu attacks her enemies, and when it's full you press A+B to activate your bomb. And like you said the Final Smash would be Fantasy Nature.
Reimu is from a bullet hell shooter series Touhou Project, the first game released in 1996 and the recent one in 2019. As you can see from the video Touhou is not only a bullet hell series it also has fighting games. This is why Reimu is a perfect candidate for Smash, if Minecraft Steve can be in the game, why not her?
For Reimu's classic mode, she fights all the projectile-heavy characters, simulating a Danmaku experience. That bit at the end about Touhou's fanbase is so accurate - it's easy to attribute it to ZUN saying that you can do whatever you want with his properties as long as you don't spoil the endings, but I think it's more than that. Sure, the main Touhou games are rough - midi music, sub-par sprites and a difficulty wall harder to overcome than Berlin's - but the foundation it creates: remixes of the music, interpretations of the character art, fan games; these wouldn't exist without the solid foundation built by ZUN.
Touhou is probably Japan's biggest Indie series and a cultural icon there, it's strongly kept its relevancy because of the fans. I think Reimu should be the Indie fighter in Ultimate.

Sometimes characters can be obvious inclusions, and sometimes not. Today was a mixture of both in a sense! Touhou is basically an unofficial series that runs on it's fans alone, and that's possibly the best kind of community, similar to TF2 and FNAF. Much better than communities that rely on whether or not something is good, balanced, or a business deal anyway. I don't know much about the Touhou games, but I'm a huge supporter of Reimu in Smash, and with 5 more challenger packs, who knows? Maybe Sakurai will join that community as well...
I'll stick to mainly Japanese characters for this weeks requests. I'm sure you know Ninja Gaiden's popularity across the world, and it's culturally brilliant protagonist Ryu at the center of it all. He would share a name with Street Fighter's character, but hey, we have 2 Roys. I've also gotta mention Godzilla again if it's Japanese heroes. People love him like a pop-star, and I don't blame them! There's also countless Pokemon based on Yo-Kai, such as Electabuzz or Dusknoir, or maybe even another Yo-Kai Watch fighter like Enma or Insomni. The choices are limitless over on the culture-behemoth of a peninsula that is Japan!
Whatever your choices be, Reimu was a great one, no doubt, and you handled her so well! We'll be patiently awaiting whether or not she's in or not, as well as the next episode of this.

Zero, would be sweet, I imagine he would use the chain rod or the z knuckle for his grab, with either a hit strike or the life drain move from z2 as the pummel. I think the recoil rod charge attack would be quite interesting, as both a kill move with the massive knockback, and as a mobility tool by pogoing off of enemies and the ground. I imagine it would probably be used as a down air, although the triple rod would work too.

For a series that's mostly a bullet hell shooter, there's quite a bit of lore and world building behind it. On top of all the games, there are several official manga and written works like Forbidden Scrollery, Wild and Horned Hermit, and Symposium of Post-Mysticisim.

Hey, I have some ideas I have been thinking for years I can finally use, so i really hope BrawlFan could read them:
First, i think it would be better the original Red, since the original is from a videogame and the other is from a movie.
The moveset:
Neutral special- Red takes out a slingshot and launches itself to the rival.
Forward special- Red launches Jim Jay and Jake with the slingshot, as long as you press the button, the longer they will go.
Down special- Bomb comes to help Red, causing an explosion.
Up special- Matilda takes Red and launches an explosive egg that impulse them to go higher. (The egg can also damage the rivals)
Smash attacks:
Down- Hal appears and spins, hitting with his long beak
Up- Bubbles inflates, hitting some of the rivals.
Forward- Stella takes out some bubbles that damage the enemy.
Aerials:
Nair- Hal spins and damages the enemy.
Uair- Stella blows some bubbles in a short range.
B and Fair- Bubbles appears and hits the enemy.
Dair- Silver uses the ability she has on the Angry Birds 2 game.
Well, until now we have almost every angry bird, there's only Chuck and Terence left:
Chuck could appear when Red runs, the speed from Chuck would almost the same as Sonic.
Terence would help when using the shield, since Red has no arms.
Grabs:
Red takes the enemy with the slingshot and launches it.
Final Smash:
I have 2 ideas here:
1- You can launch a fish wherever you want on the battlefield, then, Mighty Eagle appears causing a destruction.
2- (You need to hit the enemy) Red launches with the slingshot, if you hit an enemy, there's a secuence where you see every single Angry Bird launching against the enemy.
Costumes:
Red, Chuck, Bomb, Stella, Bubbles, Hal, Silver, Matilda. (When using an attack that appears some of this, it would be done alone; for example, when using down special, where bomb appears, and you are using bomb's skin, bomb would use the attack alone)

No, please, not the movie design.
Not only I hate the movies, it just doesn't represent the games well. Just use the original design. It's simple, a classic, and recognizable. You might say it can't be animated properly because it's limbless, but remember Angry Birds Epic, or Angry Birds Toons. Both prove that the original bird design can be animated really well. Also, it's Sakurai we're talking about, the guy who gave personality to a freaking potted plant. And also Brawlfan, the guy who made a moveset for a literal blob.
But overall, I definitely approve of putting Red in the game. I just don't want any reference to the movies, or any game originated from the movies, like Angry Birds Evolution.
Also, he wouldn't be able to have any moves from Angry Birds Star Wars or Angry Birds Rio, of course.

A great move set all around speaking as someone that enjoys the series a fair bit. My only major criticisms is I feel Reimu should use more projectiles in tandem with her physical attacks in her regular moves...and the fact that her PC-98 design not being an alternate color/costume is a massive crime towards humanity and you should feel bad for its exclusion
I learned quite a lot from this video. Never in my life would i have known touhou originated as a breakout clone, so it's interesting to learn that the series evolved the way it did. Mad props, my dude

This attack explains itself. If you are near a Zoteling, he will throw it, allowing it to travel much farther. If he is near a fighter, he will throw them, dealing a bit of damage to them while also doing very little knockback.
U: Zoteling Carry
A winged Zoteling will appear above Zote, acting like the Duck Hunt Duo duck. Like the aforementioned duo, the move acts exactly like that.
D: Essence collection
If you've beaten the whole game of Hollow Knight, you may know that Zote actually has 2 forms, that being Zote the Mighty and Grey Prince Zote. If you know that, you probably know what happens now. However, you have to collect essence to use this. You have to collect 100 essence to transform into GPZ, meaning you need to land 100 hits. It does not matter who you attack, the essence meter fills regardless.
*Gimmicks:*
GPZ will be significantly fast and heavier. His attacks also now do a *_LOT_* more damage and knockback.
_List of the moves that changed:_
Dash attack: Now turns into a mobile version of jab
Stilt: Swings nails from high to low
Usmash: Jumps upwards, and then falls down, slamming his nail into the ground to summon a powerful shockwave which only goes up
Dsmash: Falls through floor, then falls from ceiling, creating 2 small shockwaves when he lands
Nair: Sticks out limbs instead of flailing
Fthrow: Backhands foe
Uthrow: Suplex throw, like King K. Rool

Zote will let out a large roar, catching anyone near enough. This will then turn to a cinematic where an abnormal amount of Zotelings stampede the opponent, ending with the head of Zote, with Zote riding it, will crash into the opponent, doing massive damage. If the opponent is at exactly 57% when the smash ends, they will be automatically KOed.

I actually was imagining Reimu to be a more projectile heavy character.
Like fill the entire screen with projectile heavy.

Just like in the fighting games, Reimu's projectiles have a special property unique only to her. They can be grazed. As long as you are dashing you are immune to all projectiles on screen from Reimu.
This will put a unique spin to the projectile zoner archetype. A reimu will have to consider when and where to throw her curtain of bullets, or else the opponent can literally just unga bunga into her.
In all the official fighting games so far, all characters can dash through projectiles to "graze" them. Spending meter to do so. Without that mechanic, the projectiles in those games would literally be impossible to deal with and everyone would just hug the end of the screen while spamming projectiles.
In the original games, grazing is a mechanic which rewards risk taking courageous players for doing "near misses" with points. To graze you gotta get real close to those bullets to rack up high scores. Encouraging you into doing wreckless things and is also a teaching tool that teaches players how to play touhou properly. To move as economically as possible rather than zooming blindly around the screen.
The grazing in the fighting games if implenented in smash does the same thing.
Encourage Reimu and her opponents into playing recklessly, dashing towards Reimu to avoid her projectiles, knowing Reimu can proceed to body you once you get close enough by your willingly approaching her.
Projectiles can be used to lure opponents into Reimu where as foolish reimus or simply smart opponents can use Reimu's projectiles against her to approach.
This moveset is amazing, but hot diggity dang was that Ibuki sprite a shocker in a good way!! Makes sense since Ibuki is my favorite Danganronpa character of all time (not counting fangames of course)!!

Yay Reimu! Honestly I would prefer Cirno but realistically Reimu has the biggest chance. Either way I would love to get any Touhou character cause I really feel like this series deserves a slot in the roster.
I'm really happy to see this video. Reimu is my favorite character and Touhou is my favorite series, so of course I would love to see them in Smash. I think that Reimu would have a special gimmick like a lot of the other DLC characters. I think she would have a "grazing" mechanic. It would work like a combination of the grazing mechanic from the bullet hell games, and the power-up system from those same games. She would start out with weak or simple attacks, but her attacks would get stronger or more complex if she keeps narrowly avoiding damage.
Just one correction though, the fangames are NOT canon. ZUN allows his fans to make their own Touhou content and sell them, but they're not official or anything. Like, it's not like he works with them on the games and they don't have to ask him for permission either. He pretty much just lets his fans do almost whatever they want. He's great like that.

It's worth mentioning that the entry in the Guinness World Records is a mistranslation. The original word "doujin" more accurately translates to "self-published" or "indie" in this context. The mistake comes from the fact that most doujin works tend to be based on other properties, however original doujin works like Touhou do exist.

Two things
First, seeing this video again really makes me want to see a moveset for Marisa, because honestly is pretty amazing your video!
Second, I think her final smash should had been fantasy nature, her last word in a lot of games, but at the same time fantasy seal is also a very good option becuase is more known that fantasy nature
Fantasy Seal should be part of her regular moveset rather than being a Final Smash, bombs are a big part of the Touhou shmups and if Terry can have his supers as part of his normal moveset then Reimu can have a bomb mechanic. There could be something like a "bomb meter" that fills up as Reimu attacks her enemies, and when it's full you press A+B to activate your bomb. And like you said the Final Smash would be Fantasy Nature.

I had no clue what a Reimu was, but I want her in Smash because she and my boy Quote are the epitome of indie characters.
Reimu is from a bullet hell shooter series Touhou Project, the first game released in 1996 and the recent one in 2019. As you can see from the video Touhou is not only a bullet hell series it also has fighting games. This is why Reimu is a perfect candidate for Smash, if Minecraft Steve can be in the game, why not her?

The only time Reimu's ever been motivated to do stuff is when she was way younger (PC-98) and when the Hakurei Shrine gets destroyed by someone who has no idea how pissed she gets (in this case, twice)
Edit: Its actually 3 times if you count the fact she gets the shrine destroyed again at the end of Touhou 1 by a joke.
