Most likely censorship, but I do think the way they handled it in the anime is way more poetic and tasteful. Kinda surprising how it went over the head for so many ppl (I'm anime only and got the gist of it) - I do agree they could've made a bit more clear she was on top of a building
It's because Japan television is much more sensitive about s*icide because of the rates in Japan. In Manga, it's easier to get away with since it's just a static picture in black and white, but in television, it's harder to depict successful attempts because there's the fear of triggering people (high rates of unalive in Japan youth)
Two nitpicks: The mom jumps off the roof & 2.aria sees her mother completely as Acrobatic Silky hair when she says are you mom and the dad takes her away...the anime showed her still in human form
You have to do your best not to judge people by their appearance. As they say: "clothes don't make the man", but as a philosopher who I don't remember said this quote: you don't know what others are going through, and that their problems are perhaps more serious than yours. So you have to show empathy with your interlocutors, your friends, and strangers.

It's not explicitly explained but the mom had contract/debt to the yakuza and they forced her to do prostitute job because it paid more. You can clearly see that she was working two daily jobs outside of prostitution. That's why when she decided to bought her daughter a dress and cake instead of paid it to the yakuza, the yakuza came to her and take her daughter by force. Most possibly to sell her organs as it's implied that both of them died and in afterlife in the manga
they showed she had many jobs, it doesn't mean that prostitution is the only way to earn money as a single mom but rather how desperate her situation was

Most likely censorship, but I do think the way they handled it in the anime is way more poetic and tasteful. Kinda surprising how it went over the head for so many ppl (I'm anime only and got the gist of it) - I do agree they could've made a bit more clear she was on top of a building
It's because Japan television is much more sensitive about s*icide because of the rates in Japan. In Manga, it's easier to get away with since it's just a static picture in black and white, but in television, it's harder to depict successful attempts because there's the fear of triggering people (high rates of unalive in Japan youth)

It's not explicitly explained but the mom had contract/debt to the yakuza and they forced her to do prostitute job because it paid more. You can clearly see that she was working two daily jobs outside of prostitution. That's why when she decided to bought her daughter a dress and cake instead of paid it to the yakuza, the yakuza came to her and take her daughter by force. Most possibly to sell her organs as it's implied that both of them died and in afterlife in the manga
People that do that never do it by choice. You will learn that eventually.
