Excellent, thanks, but you've stated some incorrect info. 1) The EGR system _lowers_ combustion temperature and reduces NOX emissions. However, it pumps oily exhaust gunk into the engine to do so. _IMO,_ this is self-defeating, both in terms of emissions and combustion temps, and also performance and fuel economy, because carbon deposits build-up in the cylinders and on the intake valves over time. Basically, the EGR system gets a new, sparkling-clean engine through an EPA emissions certification test, and that's all the factory really cares about. Down the road, it makes a horrible mess, one consequence of which are combustion chamber 'hot-spots', which ironically lead to engine 'knock'. 2) The air pump actually makes the catalytic converters heat up _faster_ by pumping air into the exhaust stream, which causes unburnt fuel to ignite and generate heat that activates the catalyst function. This helped get the engine through EPA 'cold-start' emissions testing. The later development of 'wide-band' oxygen sensors allowed for better air-fuel ratio control and eliminated the need for air pumps.
JUST getting started on mine. 1989, I got doug's short e headers cal. 999.99 slot, but I keeping them and I just want to know if I can take out Cadillac converters AND REASON pipe, and scab in my new headers with my stock excost , with some modifications ofcourse, ccg, or andy.
Would love to see some vacuum details for what’s routed where. I picked up an 86 C4 and it’s been modified a lot like you’ve just done. BUT, I’ve got vacuum line that are not connected and don’t have a clue where to start. The factory manuals are not clear. Then added the mods it equals super confusing.
I have a stock C4, what do you need to know? You can visit my channel and maybe I already have a video that shows enough detail. Just let me know if I can help?
there should be a diagram on the front drivers side of the plastic radiator cover showing all the vacuum routes and hoses if it’s not there i bet you can look up a picture easy
@skizzags .. resolviste, acabo de adquirir un 86 y tengo el mismo problema, eliminé EGR y mis frenos dejaron de funcionar😢 alguien me puede ayudar? Hay líneas de vacío que no tengo idea dónde deben de estar
I did the delete and since it's been done when the cars warm it's running rough and smells like it's dumping fuel. Any insight on what it is I followed the video to the T!!
Hi and thanks for the great video. I have a question about the air line that comes off the first from the top from the throttle body. What is it for, and where does it insert at the other end? Thank you ahead for your response.
Question on the right side/passenger side what is that little wire/plug in that nut/bolt looking thing that is in that between the third and fourth spark plug. The spark plugs that are closer to the windshield not the ac pulley. Lol my description isn’t the best sorry.
@@Soupy59 if coolant temp stays below a certain level the EGR code won't come on. Need to check the factory service manual, it is in there on the DTC32 pages, but i can't remember the number without getting the book out
You can delete the EGR and get no codes if u leave the solenoid plugged in as well as the temperature sensor. The temperature sensor wire unscrews from the pipe . Just tape it up against the existing wiring harness@@CaseTheCorvetteMan
I'd like to know if the car is still running. I've been told since the combustion Temps are higher now you'll run into knock issues. If that is the case wouldn't 93-100 Oct solve the issue?
Can the EGR and pipe be removed and block of the holes , on the engine and exhaust manifold, without removing the smog pump on a 1990 Corvette. I'm curious. I will be removing the smog pump, at a later date .
I was thinking of that too. What's the point on disassembling all that if the only thing you're gonna do is join those 2 spots with a hose. Did you find any info on that?

I’m in the process of doing the same thing to an ’87. My question is about the vacuum lines. Since the A/C, Air Pump and associated relays, switches etc. have been removed, where do the vacuum lines go? I know the fuel pressure regulator, brake booster and cruise control need vacuum, but are there other items that need it also to run the car properly? AND, what is used as a source for those lines? Brake booster and cruise control come from the rear of the intake, I believe. The Pressure regulator comes from the small nipple on the lower passenger side of the intake. What else am I missing?
Did you delete the front two cats as well or just the back. Also noticed ur engine kinda ticks. Mine does the same. Some people say is normal others say it’s not. Your take?
Yes I deleted all the cats. And the ticking I think is normal for old Chevy engines. It may get a little louder after you delete everything because the engine is going to run a little stronger. You will hear the valves more.
@@i.t.creations5573 did the video to the T but haven't delete the cat yet now when the Vette is warm it's running rough and smells like it's dumping fuel what do you think ?

The EGR tube on headers, can we leave and just put a cap nut on the metal tube if we undo the ends?
Yes

Obd1 but the 1996 model had obd2
