Thank you for that one! Dad was ex pat in H.K. in the late 60's So I used to fly in and out for school holidays from the UK a few times every year. Loved that airport! One of the most difficult too. I was always with BOAC in the 707's.
RedLP5000S the -300 and -400 had a longer upper deck compared to the -100 and -200. The “Megatop” thing was just a slogan I guess that Singapore Airlines used on their 747-400s. The main deck was the same size, just the upper deck was bigger.
Here we go. Last known whereabouts of 9V-SMU (747-412BDSF). According to Planespotters, the airframe is probably that can of Coke sitting in your fridge as we speak. Do note the registration 9V-SMU has been recycled for a 1yr old A359 that SQ currently operates. www.airfleets.net/ficheapp/plane-b747-27068.htm www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/boeing-747-412/ www.planespotters.net/airframe/Boeing/747/N400SA-Southern-Air/8OdWuDAx
Kai Tak was the creme de la creme of all airports! Never get tired of watching videos from there! Huge like!!
Not only that, but the piece de resistance too.
This is why 747 was, is and always will be, the Queen of Skies.

I was alive in 1995, and I don't recall the world looking so low res and discolored.
It's the camera sensor technology. Newer electronics have improved it greatly
These Megatops were magnificent.I still remember myself waiting for them while they were landing and taking off in Athens Hellinikon airport
entier Singapore airlines Boeing 747-400 is powered with Pratt and Whintney PW4000 Engines.
Hello JustPlanes I Miss Taking Singapore Airlines Boeing 747s So Very Much
Awesome to see aircraft landing there, thanks
Was the MEGATOP any longer than a traditional -400?

@@fracturedmind8124 Thanks for the info. It looks to me like all they did was implement more windows on the upper deck. So most likely a P.R. thing.
They called the 300 BIG TOP
its amazing as spectator like us..
but its very stressfull as pilot land at kai tak
That was a smooth landing.
Nice landing!
