- Actor and entrepreneur Gwyneth Paltrow took the stand on Friday to testify that she was not at fault for a 2016 ski slope collision in Utah that left a man with a concussion and broken ribs, contradicting testimony from the lone witness to the incident.
Paltrow, 50, said during cross-examination that she was skiing with her two children, and said that in fact she was struck by Terry Sanderson, a 76-year-old retired optometrist who filed a lawsuit seeking more than $300,000 in damages over the incident at the Deer Valley Resort in Utah.
"I was skiing and two skis came between my skis, forcing my legs apart, and then there was a body pressing against me and there was a very strange grunting noise," Paltrow said.
Paltrow, who said she was upset and cursed at Sanderson after the collision, said she did not ski off until after Sanderson told Christiansen that he was fine.
"I did not cause the accident, so I cannot be at fault for anything that subsequently happened to him," Paltrow said.

Agreed. GP can be an annoying public figure but she's never displayed herself as an evil person. If she had injured this man, she would have felt awful and has plenty of money and would have paid his bills. This man is a disgrace and his daughter was awful on the stand. Did not appear truthful.

The plaintiff had several people go up on his character, GP has always shown kindness, and no record of ever being evil or reckless. She's a health nut, loves her kids, and has been very much in their lives. You can't say the same about this man. His character is gross, his daughter appeared to be lying on the stand. I have no doubt that he ran into GP, and is delusional now because she's famous and he saw it as an opportunity. If she had ran into him, she would have felt so bad, made sure the person was ok, and she has more than enough to cover the medical. But he slammed into her, she felt violated and it was a weird experience, especially for someone who may think it could have been done on purpose like a paparazzi to get a shot. Most people would have been pissed in her situation and not stuck around for this tool, especially because he said he was ok and stood up. Who checked on her? Just because she made it down, didn't mean she was ok. He ran into her, and I doubt he was worried about her well being. He just saw "fame" and dollar signs. The greed of humans.

She's making a connection between the incident and the statement of Gwyneth in the interview in Jimmy Kimmel when she says that she's always "running into things." Poor connection. Even if Gwyneth always "runs into things" doesn't mean that she also runs into that man in the ski slope. That's purely speculative. There is no logical connection.
As a woman, I know that when we flutter our eyes like Gwyneth is doing, it is deliberately to be combative but acting passive aggressively like playing stupid when we don’t like how the conversation is going. It is meant to be flippant and Gwyneth is absolutely doing that when she flutters her eyes, blinking 30 times a second. She doesn’t have dry eyes, she isn’t fighting back tears. She is being a snot on the stand and wanting the attorney to know she isn’t phased by her accusatory questioning.

The judge sustains all of her attorney's objections and she won't reenact what happened. We already know who is going to win and the attorney will see his fees rise astronomically after her defense.
This case is a big joke. I think she is being honest. She could've just settled and don't have to put up with this, but I think for her it is more about principle.
About half way through this it should have been case dismissed in favor of the defense. The plaintiff has a terrible lawyer. She is so annoying and she is introducing hearsay! A comment from the Jimmy Kimmel show that she is clumsey? Ridiculous!

I am so glad she is asking for lawyer fees. She deserves compensation as well for her and her families time. Her son has to come in during his spring break. And for the lawyer to bring up how much she spent on the ski trip was ridiculous. GP is worth millions, so 8k is pennies to her. So who cares? She has the money and can spend it how she pleases. That's four kids, so 2k each. Even middle class parents pay that for a big ski trip with professional lessons.
I believe GP 100%, and I think Sanderson is lying. GP is worth $200 million. If she caused the accident, there’s no logical reason under the sun she wouldn’t pay $300,000 in damages. She has no impetus to lie and subject herself to this fiasco when she could’ve quietly made it all go away - UNLESS she’s telling the truth and defending her honor.
Sanderson, on the other hand, has EVERY reason to lie. Also, the “expert” doctor’s assessment is easily picked apart on multiple levels. I see Occam’s Razor in full effect here. The simplest, most obvious explanation is highly likely to be the true one: Sanderson is a grifter and saw a golden opportunity for a payday.

Oh well that’s what happens whenever you bring a lawsuit against someone and the risk you take whenever you know dang well she did not cause his injuries. So I don’t feel sorry for him. He has had a few years now to withdraw from this lawsuit.
It was stated by one of the professionals that his fee would be between $10-20,000 to appear in court. I think between his feed, her feed and to pay all the witnesses will be close to $700,000.

People blink a lot when they’re thinking hard and concentrating on questions. Someone told me this just the other day, that he notices he blinks a lot on video when he’s being interviewed about a detailed subject, he’s thinking about what he’s going to say.

The defendant is an older man, possibly weaker bones so received more injury. If he received a concussion, I was told by my doctor that they can't determine how long the effects of the concussion would last. I don't believe that unless there is a specialist who takes the stand explaining how long the man's concussion will last and proof..
It's very irritating when a dumb joker lawyer makes assumptions that you are lying, I would get annoyed too.
GP stays in shape and eats very healthy food, yoga, exercise etc....of course she would walk away less harmed depending on his physical state.

She over stresses that this guy skied into her back. How many times has she stated this? We have heard it over and over again like she is trying to convince herself. For instance, she is asked a question (like where are her children when she is sking) and she adds on about getting hit in the back again when that isn't part of the question. She doesn't answer the question very well, so is asked again to clarify against a witness statement, and again she mentions getting hit from behind. Hard to believe her version.

The ski instructor left him all her information to contact her. She had to get down to her children. What good was she going to do standing on the side of the mountain? There were people there helping him and help was on the way. Initially this guy wanted to sue for $3 million dollars! He’s an opportunist! A real man would not do this!
