One thing I appreciate about this game is that it gave Cave Johnson a proper ending. Unlike in Portal 2 where it's ambiguously implied that maybe he died or something, it's nice to see what actually happened to him. A big-headed guy who got turned into a big head, lol.
The toilets singing at the end reminds me of the end of Portal 2 when all the turrets sing their song, and it makes me wonder: Was that Cave Johnson singing to Chell? Was that him controlling those turrets as she leaves?
@@bluelfsuma It is kinda canon. You see, this was one of the universes from the multiverse in portal 2. I think that its fully canon in other universe but not in our portal 1/2 universe.
I like how in the initial elevator sequence downward you see a kid's playground area, and immediately underneath it, weapon's storage. Nice touch, Valve.
also of note but a lot more subtle is the repulsion gel pipe directly above the exit of a slide in the daycare, with the fencing on that part of the wall being bent out of shape, implying a kid slid down, bounced on the gel, and flew into it or over it lol
I love how different this is from the Aperture we see in the mainline Portal games. Instead of Cave dying, Caroline becoming GLaDOS and Chell destroying the place not once but twice after being taunted with cake, we have Cave surviving (becoming the Computer Executive Officer instead of GLaDOS), the company never rebranding from its 80’s aesthetic, the company still being in business (seeing as both “Charlie” and the Warden appear to be there of their free will), Grady (who speaks with a Southern accent like the one Wheatley was “beyond [GLaDOS’] range of hearing”) being the creator of the Turrets, and we’re taunted with a pudding. The folks at Valve have some serious attention to detail.

Actually, this is most likely an alternate timeline or universe, since in the original Glados lacks emotion, while in this Cave Johnson just has his normal one. She would have to go in first if his technology is more advanced.
@@alveloss7880 Not necessarily. He had her go first and they couldn’t fit all of her personality into one piece, resulting in the cores attached to her. He demanded one computer and got it. Apparently Aperture Desk Job is an alternate timeline where Cave Johnson lived long enough to have his conscience put into a computer, unlike the Portal games where he died and Caroline took his place.
It's not an alternative timeline though, it's cannon The idea is from the cancelled portal game called F-Stop where cave was supposed to have been found at the bottom of Aperture with his consciousness in a cube I wouldn't be surprised if this is hinting somewhat to a new portal, I mean you can see at the end how there is still a light on caves head, he is clearly still alive and being powered by that power source made by the Mantises
This isn't actually portal 3, it's basically a prequel except it doesn't have portal-like gameplay Another funny thing is that I believe it has a disclaimer in the description saying something along the lines of "this is not portal 3" I could be a little off
I really liked this, it adds a TON to portal lore, but it being such a short experience, it does wonders to show what the steam deck can do. It's a fantastic tutorial game, and is just as charming as the other games.
Now we know that Aperture had some actual products mass-produced, Cave might have been digitized in secret long before GLaDOS, and turrets could have been inspired by a broken toilet.
A cute little detail, the microphones, vents headphone jack and volume buttons on the desk also line up with the steamdeck perfectly, something i never noticed till I held it
The voice acting, theme, graphics and the gameplay are just something new and interesting Valve really focuses on everything they make and put their heart and soul into it

I completely agree, Valve did such a good job on the portal series and personally, Portal still feels like it's an actively intriguing game and universe even years after it's releases. Jonathan coulton's music in the games fuckin rock.
It's tiny stuff like this that gives me hope of Valve coming back into the game development industry in full. They clearly still have the talent and passion, but it feels like they're reclusive and secretive/
Remember hat huge turret in the background at the end of Portal 2 ? The one the community called "Animal King". I have no evidence to back it up obviously but it looks to me like that turret might be Cave. The parallels with the ends of both games are almost too big to be a coincidence.
I mean it’s not technically “portal 3” but I think the closest we have ever gotten to a portal 3 is the Portal Level pack or level in Lego Dimensions. Edit: Forgot about this comment. 153 LIKES?!
tbf, portal doesn't need a sequel portal 2 wasn't a cliff hanger, it was self concluded, all the spin offs just add to the universe. it would be nice if there was a sequel, but it's not necessary meanwhile, half-life 2: episode 2 and now half-life: alyx have ending on cliff hangers, making literally everyone begging for more

Ugh I love the Portal games so much. I agree with Sean, I really hope we get another one in the future but I know that's unlikely. But even just this little demo game is making me want to go back and play the games for the, what... eighth or ninth time? They both just have so much replay value and it's been nearly 11 years since Portal 2 was released.
Also mostly convinced that this game and HL Alyx are tests for sequels to their main series. But more than likely just tech demos themed around their most beloved franchises, and like I said before we'll more than likely get another Gmod based on the engine that they used
Valve makes honestly the most fun tech demos. It's still a shame they don't make games as much. But man, they are just so good at it. Always worth the wait. Thanks for playing this for us, Jack!
On one hand, I think that Cave still being alive cheapens the overall impact of his death, but on the other, it opens up the possibility of GLaDOS finding out about and meeting him.
That's hardly being "Alive". Plus he was begging for death by the time the player meets him, so it's an even more pathetic end than dying from moon dust.
@@KittyKatty999 I disagree, because the main tragedy of Cave's death is that it ends with Caroline being forced into GLaDOS against her will. I do, however, recognise that Desk Job takes place in an alternate Aperture.
It’s interesting to see that even though this isn’t a portal game, it still drags out the lore like how it seems that cave johnson has been alive the whole time, as a metal thing and the turrets came the idea of a toilet with a tank of bullets. The silly ness makes it make sense too.

13:14 it killed me when you could hear the recording back, 10/10 funniest shit since turning yourself into a pickle.
I like how in the initial elevator sequence downward you see a kid's playground area, and immediately underneath it, weapon's storage. Nice touch, Valve.
Weapon storage that looks identical to the ones found in HL2
So it seems Aperture were the ones that supplied them originally
also of note but a lot more subtle is the repulsion gel pipe directly above the exit of a slide in the daycare, with the fencing on that part of the wall being bent out of shape, implying a kid slid down, bounced on the gel, and flew into it or over it lol
J.K Simmons has such a distinctive voice that even as simply a voice actor role, you know its him from one sentence!

I really do think this is an alternate universe, it may be based on a scrapped idea for the main games but it contradicts the main game's story/timeline.
