    Stucco acrylic or synthetic finishes.
    FYI, acrylic is also known as synthetic stucco. Now you know.
    Send pictures to Jay or myself at our sites below for immediate bids.
    www.StuccoPlas... Kirk’s website.
    www.GiordanoPl... Jason’s Website.
    In this video, we’re applying an acrylic stucco finish.
    Over a cementitious finish for serious rain protection.
    I Believe they purchased BMI Acrylic that I applied in this video, I'll spread whatever a homeowner has on hand, But my personal favorite Stuc-O-Flex Elastomeric Acrylic Finish.
    Stuc-O-Flex Elastomeric Acrylic Finish provides a protective weathering membrane in a pre-colored, extremely durable, fade and mildew-resistant coating.
    My pal Dan Johnson who works with Stuc-O-Flex is the man to call.
    Dan’s an expert with all Stuc-O-Flex stuccos and stucco acrylics.
    His number is 425 885-5085.
    Don’t guess with your biggest investment purchase products that last longer than old kirk.
    Hello everyone, take it from a 40-year exterior stucco finishing contractor.
    All acrylic stucco coatings are not created equal.
    In fact, some stucco acrylics are so pathetic that if they offered them to me for free, I’d have to decline, as if I applied these shitty products, I would be responsible, thereby sued or have to redo the work, where’s the savings in that nonsense.
    Some folks would be shocked as one of the biggest names in cementitious stucco finishes is the worst with their acrylic stuccos.
    How bad is it? We, as stucco contractors, talk with our fellow stucco contractors and, as a joke, might say, no doubt they used, Blaw, Blaw, Blaw, and this is why they are being sued or having to redo their failed acrylic finish?
    We invite you to watch how acrylic stucco is applied. It’s flexible and waterproof stucco homes.
    There is a lot of important information shared in this video.
    Ensure the plastering contractors follow these guidelines if you consider applying an acrylic stucco to your home.

    Hi Kirk. Here in Phoenix the stucco contractor installed Seneca acrylic stucco over the scratch coat which was over metal lathe. No brown coat installed over the scratch coat. We expected smooth walls as this being a contemporary home but walls came out wavvy especially when sunlight hits. He says he's done. We want no waves. My architect says the contractor should have installed brown coat in order for the wall to have been straighter. The question is can we keep trying to skim the elastomeric product or should be do something else to get this straight? Thank you for looking into this.

    Hi Kirk. I watch your videos all the time and find them very educational. I have a lanai in my house in Florida. I have an open ceiling and thinking of closing it with gypsum board. I also would like to finish it with an acrylic stucco. I was thinking of priming the boards and applying the stucco right over it without using lath in one or two coats. I also have a soffit that has a vent screen running down the middle and was thinking about finishing with some kind of light stucco finish. Would you guide me in the right direction for this one as well.
    Thank you.
    Lenny.

      Howdy Leonid, if your exterior porch will get no weather or condensation, I'd recommend green or blue board sheetrock with a base coat and finish coat of Diamond plaster. You can buy Diamond lime plaster at the plastering material yards. They sell metal 2 inch continuous vents if yours has seen better days. Venting is necessary.👨🏻‍🔬

    Hello Kirk, I'm having acrylic applied to my house foundation next week. From what I understand, at the base is the original house foundation cement. On top of this, when the house was built, they applied a secondary cover of cement, also called parging. Now, in the acrylic process, they will REMOVE the secondary cover of cement. Is this correct?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy Duraanceau dude, without seeing what you have, I'm guessing.
      The terms parging come from the UK; you take lime putty, mix it with water, and cover any and everything as a protection fro erosion and or defense against bugs.
      It's basically painting the exterior with lime water.
      However, in this country, the USA, it seemed to mean skim coating.
      Two completely different procedures.
      You would be wise to ask and not assume that your contractor is going to or not going to do this. And most importantly, why.

    Can I do the first two coats with cement stucco then finish with acrylic finish??as long as I apply primer on scratch coat

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Howdy Fix it dude, your don't need a primer on the scratch coat.
      The scratch coat gets embedded into the lath, the second coat adheres to the scratch coat by suction, you wet the scratch coat then apply the second coat, they bond permanently by suction. This is called a mechanical bond in plastering language.
      Before you apply any stucco acrylic finish. you must first paint or roll on the primer that goes before and with your chosen stucco acrylic.
      watch the video again. I do mention this.

    The paper behind my stucco has deteriorated and water now leaks down to the plate and inside the room. I used an elastomeric paint and it has worked for years but now with these El Niño rains it's coming back in. Is this acrylic a good choice for sealing the stucco? Is there a better fix ?

    • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Howdy alldaymckay most of the paints last between 7 to 12 years if applied properly, that means, pressure washing the walls well, and then applying a coat or two of the best primer you can get your hands on, the paint is not as effective as the primer.
      Almost all acrylic stucco systems last easily twice as long as paint, but are a lot more work as you can see in this video. But well worth it in the long run.

      Yes you can apply an acrylic primer and or finish over your home, you can also buy the best paint and primers available like Sherman Williams, cost about 80 bucks per gallon but this paint and others are so thick and good that they flood cracks and move with the structure, thus, won't open again. • @StuccoPlastering
      @StuccoPlastering  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jerry, yes of course it will, however, this material will take some skill applying in the heat, especially if it's over 100 degrees,
      Some of plasters whine about the cost of the material saying we pay lots for a can when it's full of sand, but this sand is what makes the product so strong.

      Jerry Ward Jerry, acrylic finish can handle a lot, but cement finish is going to be more UV resistant in the long run and hold its original color a little better. Acrylics and cement finish have advantages. For very hot sun, I tend to prefer cement. As Kirk mentions, acrylic finish will cost and there are differences. It may be a good idea to talk to a local supplier. .
