The cat is very smart, gentle and sensitive! She very careful and knows that will harm the baby. I love it when she shows her little paws as if to say, ooh, I want to squeeze the baby, but I won't because it might hurt her. So loving and gentle!

Plus, human kids are a more "equitable" size to cats, and they can relate better. That's why you get so many videos of cats playing "attack" and "wrestle" with toddlers; to a cat, that's the very best phase of human life. To them, it's like their little humans have become cats themselves and can play like other cats do. :-)

The way Watson purrs, and kneads his paws (the retracting thing; kittens do this to get milk out of their mom, and adult cats do it when they are very happy) is so adorable. I think the best part is how he keeps rolling over for the baby, a true sign of love, something a cat wouldn't do for someone they didn't trust. They're gonna be best friends one day

Dirty Dingus McGee went over the Rainbow Bridge at the age of 19. I got him out of a trash can when he was about four weeks old, sick, and blind from infection. I dropper fed him and kept him warm, and did the best that a 10 year old could do. My mother let me keep him because she thought he wouldn't survive. Fooled her! 19YO ❣

It's odd to be viewing this 11 years on and wonder whether the cat's still here, and how big the child must be now. This is a very special relationship. I don't always like cat and baby interactions as the potential for bites and scratches from the cat, or inadvertent swipes from the baby can cause problems, but this is one of the gentlest cats i've ever seen interact with a baby. The claws are being deliberately kept sheathed and the approaches to the baby are so measured. It's a very beautiful and touching video.

Because of this close bond between them, years down the road, you will see something very similar to that Bakersfield incident, which I'm sure everyone has seen by this time - where the family cat saved its toddler friend from a dog attack. My cat does that, and also when he wants my company when I am in bed, he will jump up on me whilst purring, begin to head but my face or hands and start the neading motion. It's a leftover from kitten hood whist with their mother. They do it to her tum when they drink her milk. This cat is super excited over the moon happy!
