We have a '98 2.5 TDI (2.498cc) with some chip tuning. That one is a real beast. Goes up mountains like a goat climbing a hill, overtaking most modern cars without a sweat. We have been driving it for 20+ years, over 300k km without any major issues. Incredible creation.
Those engines are really well made. I have a 1995 Audi A6 Quattro with the 2.5 TDI (140 HP, AEL) in it. It has clocked in 537,000 km, and still runs like a charm. Mine is chip-tuned as well, with a 175 HP, 360 N-m setup. Goes pretty well, and it is very fuel efficient. Really awesome engines, as long as you service them regularly, within the intervals. Give them fresh oil and filter every 12,000 km and a new timing belt at every 90,000 km, and they will just run forever. Plus, you get that sweet 5-cylinder sound to go along with it.
I don't think it's that unusual with diesel vans. my 08 Renaut Trafic 2.0 dci that I drive daily has just passed 420k miles and still runs strong, quiet etc.

Didn't the 1.9 TDK (AAZ) engine have 75 HP and 150 N-m, as far as I remember. A friend of mine had a Golf with this engine, and oh boy, was that thing lazy 🤣 He later swapped it with a 1.9 TDI from a later Golf, which had 110 HP, and was a whole lot quicker, especially after he got a boost valve and adjusted the fuel pump. Pretty sure that thing had around 150 HP by the end of it. It felt like a diesel-GTI at that point. I had a T4 myself, with the 2.4D (78 HP) engine. It had a really short gear ratio, and I maxed it out on my way home from Oslo (Norway). 140 km/h was its top speed.

As far as i know there is no engine with a displacement of 2498cc, the 2.5 TDI usually has 2461cc. My dad has a 2003 2.5 TDI 151 hp, i really love it.

There is no such thing though, the only 2.5 were 5cyl, it's only the 2.8 that were a VR6.
