As a kid from a broken home who’s dad was never around, the second audition was emotional as hell. Being able to bring both parents together in support and how much passion and emotion that kid put out was incredible. Fantastic
And he still sings with so much emotion today. James Arthur.

you know what boggles my mind? If this guy was lome 45 years old they would look at him like ok. so what? Is that all you've got? Boring . But go back 20 years and it's like Wow man! you're amazing!!!! unbelievable. Like old people were born old. 🙄

The shock and surprise from everyone about the first contestants outrages me. Why do we assume that because he's a senior he can't shred a guitar. Hello people! Brian May, Mick Mars,Lindsay Buckingham and so many of our great guitarists are seniors and still killing it!

You got it all wrong. Nobody assumed that bec he was senior, he couldn't shred a guitar. The shock and surprise came bec 1. He looked like a regular grampy, not your regular heavy metal rocker. 2. The talent per se. 3. That performance came once in a blue moon.
I know some advance in years rockers like Jimmy Page, B. May, P. Frampton, C. Santana, E. Clapton, M. Knopfler, etc. so I shouldn't be surprised, but this guy surprised me.

If this guy was young nobody would bat an eye but because he’s old we’re suppose to so shocked! What do these judges think happen to people as they age that they forgot everything they’ve learned or only want to play classical! He was cool when he was young so he’s still cool now!
Arthritis usually hits the fingers first. And also he doesn't look like he listens to rock in his Mr Rogers sweater and people appreciate the unexpected and that is what is impressive hon

The first guy learned his tapping skills from the late, great Eddie Van Halen.
Who learned it from a guy in the 1930's
@j johnson there was no electric guitars in the 1930s jackball. Kinda required for that technique.
Eddie did NOT create tapping. Stop giving the guy credit for things he didn’t do. Eddie probably got the idea from an Italian guitarist who made tapping popular in the 60s.

It’s unfortunate that ppl believe that us elderly men and women have nothing to give to the world. I know so many men and women in their 60’s and 70’s that have so much talent in different areas that most younger ppl couldn’t even compare. Like one person said he isn’t playing guitar, he loves playing guitar. Anyone at any age who enjoys what they do will more likely than not be very good at their hobby or job.
And realize that this guy isn’t amazing and he was also tapping the fast parts which even a beginner can do

I'm amused that everyone's so shocked. Not that he isn't amazing, he is, but people seem so shocked by his age. Rock has now been around for nearly 70 years, any of the rock greats that are still alive are getting up there in age. Kerry Livgren, for example, is 74. (writer of Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas)
