Hi everyone, I garden in the US, in Frankfort, Kentucky. I have a fence around my backyard where I have my Nepeta Walker's Low next to a pink David Austin rose shrub. I also have had neighbor's cats climb over my fence and roll over my plant smashing it flat to the ground. What I do now is place the widest metal peony ring over my plant and it grows up through the ring. This seems to help. I have not had a flat plant since then. Hope this helps, James

I can just imagine how nice the nepeta looks with the pink rose. It goes really well with roses. Thanks for the tip James about the peony ring. We've tried an upturned hanging basket before now which protected the plany from getting flattened but the cats kept nibbling the ends so it didn't flower. Thanks again and greeting from England.

I've never been very successful with Nepeta. It seems to rot at the base. I may try it again in a pot. Did your upside down hanging basket not keep the cats off yours? I'm sure it was your channel that I saw that tip. I've just looked at next week's weather forecast and can't believe that it's rain and more rain. Let's hope it's wrong! Hope you both have a wonderful weekend.

Yes, it was our channel you watched the upturned hanging basket on. It kept the cats from flattening the plant but we couldn't get it to grow past the frame as the cat would nibble the tips! It was 'Jerry' who used to like it and he's now moved so fingers crossed the other cats will leave it alone. We've been hoping for a dryer month as March has been awful. Let's hope we get some sunshine in between the showers. Did you ever get your grass cut? Xx

Funnily enough I got the front grass cut today. Did about half (it's only a small lawn) and it started to rain but I carried on and finished it. The mower was struggling a bit and I'd have liked the grass to have dried out more than it was but it's hard to get a few consecutive dry days at the moment. I feel happier that I've done it. I remember Jerry coming in your garden. I have several cats that visit mine. My brother and his wife have two and they've got totally different personalities. One likes being outside all the time and her sister likes staying inside looking out of the window. I expect your Honey has settled in now. I was thinking how well Ben's tree was looking in your garden. Take care and hope we get some time in our garden this weekend. xxx@@MadAboutGardening

@@wendybartlett6717 At least you managed to get one of your lawns done, despite the shower. You must feel better having done that and the front is where everyone sees so glad that was done first. We miss Jerry and the funny thing is that he was here since we moved in and his parents moved and left him with the new owners. Now they have moved but at least they have taken him with them instead of being deserted again. It was so nice having him around in the garden (despite the nepteta!) and in our videos. There are other cats that visit but they don’t stay long when we go out. Honey is doing really well and has us well trained now. We are so glad we took her in and gave her a new lease of life (and us!). Andrew’s April garden tour is on this this evening which include Ben’s tree. Standing beside it, you can see just how much it has grown. Have a great Saturday, take care xxx

It's so frustrating isn't it! Try it in a pot and see if you can keep the cats away from it.
