SIG P320 M17 Safety Removal

  • The meat of the video goes from 0:15 to 5:05 (this includes taking the gun apart first and putting it back together once the safety has been removed) After that I just talk about some thinks to think about in terms of getting a new grip without the safety holes.
    Hey guys! After reviewing Liz's M17 we decided to do some research and figure out how to remove the safety. After doing so we noticed there wasn't much content out there showing the simplicity of this process so we decided to make a video as a follow up video to our M17 Review. Hope this helps!

    0:25 - 1:44 Takedown/disassembly 1:45 - 5:05 Actual Safety Removal and Safety Pin Replacement. The rest is reassemble and I discuss why you need a new frame after doing this. Hope this helps!

    Just did this with my M18 after buying a new grip module and safety pin (there is no version that comes without the manual safety, yet). Worked like a charm! Some videos are showing much more disassembly of the FCU, but it's quite unnecessary. Your method is the easiest and best I've seen. Cheers!

      There will never be an "m18" model without the safety. The safety is what makes it an m18.

    After a little thinking i got the version with no safety, which actually came in cheaper and had 3 mags. they're also more often in stock now since first time buyers generally want a manual safety on it. But sig fixed the drop issue so there shouldn't be any concern. It's cool that they supply the pin you need to do this, and since it's modular you could always get a new lower that doesn't have the cutout and will hold that pin there a little better. Great video.

    Hi rma arms, Great video!!! I have a question, I am going to get a FCU with manual safety cutout, I am mainly interested in no manual safety but I would like to have the option to switch between both manual safety and no manual safety. With that said if I get a FCU with manual safety cutout and build it as a no manual safety FCU will the butterfly shaped cutout in the FCU for the safety detent jeopardize the function of anything or reliability? I am guessing no because it is just a cutout for the safety detent, but I figured I would ask a pro after I watched you safety conversion video. Also how has your held up any issues? Thank you for your help! and take care!!!

    Looking around for something more modern than my 1911 to conceal carry. I've been looking at Glock and the P320. I really don't like trigger safeties and I'm seeing thumb safety P320s are a bit harder to find.
    Removing that did you just remove the only safety in the firearm? meaning if you holster that and something like your shirt gets jammed against the trigger will it fire? Sounds like a negligent discharge waiting to happen with how short and light those triggers are.

      Johnson - will do, if it ever comes in. Ordered several weeks ago. But I compared the two lowers and they are very similar where it will sit in the holster. Although I added a Romeo01Pro and Stream Light TLR-7A so my fit my be different anyway. The grip is more narrow on the WC lower, but that should not impact holster selection.

    • @rmaarms114
      @rmaarms114  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed, the WC frame is a phenomenal choice! Ricky just picked one up and put it on his m17 and it feels amazing! Johnson, so far it has fits every holster we used the previous frame with 👍

      Finally got out to the range today. 250 rounds of Sig Sauer 124 FMJ with zero issues! Absolutely love this pistol w/o the safety!! $9 pin and $64 Wilson Combat lower and she runs like a charm. Definitely my new EDC pistol! Well, once I can find a decent holster. I’m running the Sig Romeo 1 Pro and StreamLight TLR-7A.

    The website where you can order the pin says to not use the standard trigger bar since it could hang up in the manual safety pocket and not allow a proper trigger reset. Is this true? Seems like there is talk sayings it’s fine vs not fine and you’ll need to get a non safety trigger bar lol

    In all honesty once you remove the safety you can get a non safety grip module that is a full size. One without the overhang for the slide. Just gives you a bit of choice on your modules. Even the full size X Series will work great. Or just the full size standard.

    I have to remove the safety to my M18 just so I could fit it into the MCK with brace! :-(
    - - -
    Wish someone would make a MCK kit that would accept the Sig M17/18 with safety just so I don't have to go thru these extra steps and additional cost!
    - - -
    Could a couple pieces of thin plastic or even metal sheets be fitted and blocking the now exposed holes where the safety use to be?

    • @rmaarms114
      @rmaarms114  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's definitely nice having that option, the main reason we are removing this one in particular is for Elizabeth (the owner of the gun) who was a brand new shooter, originally wanted it with the safety. Now after having shot it for a few months she said it's become a pest and gets in the way of her grip but it's all personal preference. I actually liked it and I usually hate a manual safety lol thanks for checking us out 👍

      People that don't have safeties are too lazy to train drawing while removing the safety it's a thumb safety as you draw you're already removing the safety, and they're the same people complaining about "signs shooting by themselves" no shit you get a gun without a safety that doesn't block the firing pin and a stubborn gun manufacturer, and the whole bs about "lowest bidder" p320 and the m17 are technically different guns, the m17 is a lot safer to handle the the p320 I will never carry a p320 I carry the military version for that safety

      I ran into the same thing with my M18. When you remove the take down lever, it locks back the take down safety lever to the rear position (this is the black bar that hooks around the left side safety). However, if you pull the FCU out and lift the slide lock up, it resets the take down safety lever to the forward position, which will block the safety lever pin. If you look through the hole where take down lever comes out of, you'll see the take down safety lever partially blocking it if it's reset to the forward position. If you partially insert the take down lever, you can rotate it to lock the take down safety lever to the rear position which will unblock the safety lever pin.
