Gran Paradiso from Cogne

18 and 19 August 2019 "Gran Paradiso da Cogne": wonderful mountaineering trip in a grandiose and solitary environment; starting from Valnontey, we climbed to the Bivacchi Pol and Gérard-Grappein where we stayed; the next day we climbed the Tribolazione Glacier on the right, therefore we turned towards Colle dell'Ape; through the Finestra del Roc, we passed on the other side and with a long traverse we reached the summit of the Gran Paradiso; we descended on the glacier of the same name to Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele and then to Pont of Valsavarenche.

Yes a lot more snow and ice on both sides of the mountain, already beneath bivacco Pol and in the descend till around 3000 meters.

I climbed through passo vacarone two years ago and i would not reccomend it, too many loose rocks and you end up on very steep snow (like 80°) when you get to gran paradiso glacier side. it was also basically impossible to place any kind of protection
