Hi Joesephyr, thank you very much for this video! I think I managed to tweak my deck in the final waking hours before my tournament today and dealt with a variety of decks with some nasty threats thanks to your mentioned list here. This type of video of really helped out. I think this type of video can definitely delve deeper into a "what is a bad threat on general turn X" (though not as static as Magic's turn sequences). I don't know if it is worth noting, perhaps maybe a video for illustrating turn sequence and plays based on situations and help chart out main scenarios to the players? I found most players in my LGS's tournament were going for the quick CP route and doing 2 card discards to play 3 and 4 cost cards out on turn 1 a common thing in the tournament today. It seemed I was the only deck going to consistently play out 3-4 backups every game. My deck ended up very similar to your protect zidane deck, but noticed that in the "sneak strategy" of Yuffie + Zidane, the Yuffie 1-085R really helps kill off pesky Squalls as well! Thanks again :)
Nice video ! Really usefull. I also suggest (L) Lightning to deal with Rikku , because she can kill one of the other YRP members ( mostly Paine , but also the Forwards Yuna ) leaving Rikku weak against your cards like Lulu or even Odin.
very helpfull information, also love how you said at the start you dont like cussing then at the end you break out the b word on poor Rikku, keep the top content coming, lovin it ☺
One thing I'd add to the Zidane section would be that between both ice and lightning there is only Orlandeau to deal with him. Might've been worth mentioning that instead of light Cloud as it's more of a tech choice instead of being good in every situation (as is the case with light Cloud) Other then that, keep up the good work ^^ Glad there is decent content being created for this game!
Insacuri Orlandeau has the issue of Maria writing him off, which is unfortunate, and given that Maria is very often played with Zidane, I felt Cloud was the better point to make, though you aren't wrong for mentioning him :)
Really good video! Though when dealing with Laan. You cant use the 4 cost Odin, since Laan is not a 4 cost forward. But the 7 cost Odin will do the trick. ;)
Ah, my pdf was a bit blurry. Well, then I have no complaints. Really like your channel. I always try your decks. My friends didn't like your Ultimecia build. 😎
As an idea for a future video, how about a top 20 FAQ clarifications so far that have been verified by the creator and a short explanation of how they work in game? Might help people understand how these odd situations play out and know how to work around them. Just an idea :)
That is something I've been meaning to do for a little while, but I wasn't sure if it was something people would want, so thank you for the affirmation :) I'll have to get to work on that one I think :)
Check sash and try it out on your your card and then I’ll check on your pics pics of the people pics lol thanks haha love it it thanks love you it too love you love too love you too baby I hope love it too much love lol thanks lol lol thanks love to see it soon thanks lol love love the more of you love love to you too love love you love too much lol lol thanks lol love love miss you too too love too too much lol love you guys too much much love love it too love too much thanks lol love lol lol thanks for asking thanks love lol love you guys love you love ya too much thanks love for you to too have fun love lol love lol lol thanks lol love love love you guys guys love love you guys rguys too good night love thanks for the the weekend weekend and love you guys guys too much love too much and thanks thanks iytr
Wish the packs were back in stock so more people can be introduced to the game and deck building is an option for people that didn't buy a booster box or more on day one haha. I just want to play :)
TriggerBuster It's weird, because the summon is based on the mythHecatonchires, which is where I got my pronunciation from, that Vanilles accent is weird XD
Interesting video really, gives us a bit more insight about deck building in general. I think those kind of video are complementary and set the overall idea of your channel :) By the way, any though on Gordon ? I think this card is really undervalued at the moment with the domination of Minwu, the fire element is kind under used which is the main counter to Gordon but oh well !
Joesephyr oh good to know ahah, I've been using him in some slow control deck to get a solid defense early on, anyway. I have a question related to Shantoto, if I'm not mistaken you can't play any thing when your opponent play a Forward or a Back up right ? But you can still use a Valefore to protect you if your opponent use Shantoto with a Tama (during your turn for exemple)?
Joesephyr oh I see for a moment I actually though I was cheating, after I read again some ruling about on play effect. So you can't chain on the fact a card enter the play field but you can chain on the effect which comes with the card ! Thanks for clearing that :) Valefore is really a Shantoto counter in the end ! I've been running a single copy on my FFX deck just for that.
Fervent To be fair, it's not very well explained in the basic rulebook, I'm going off the way things were ruled in the tournaments I've played in, even I'm not 100% on it all, this is why we need an advanced rulebook XD
neal Olinger Much as I loved L Cloud back in the day, he's somewhat outclassed by his H variant in Opus 4, if you're absolutely DESPERATE to run him though, you could try an FFVII ice/eartg build that makes uses of Genesis, Vincent and Cloud, as you'll keep the Jessie searcher and still have access to Ices shenanigans :D
Joesephyr Also one more thing I was reading the text for the Jesse search card it says Category 7 and light cloud is a desidia 7 will she still search for him
Hey Joe! Thanks for this video, i'd give a lil more importance to cloud L but it's really cool! I'd like to show you a build i've maken up on my own, i've sent you a friend request on facebook (I'm always Emanuele Lucisano), if and when you have some spare time we might chat about that! I'd really love to get your review and eventually you can make a video up for it (who knows :P) Lemme know n cheers!
Christopher Weaver Zidane can't be TARGETED by an opponents effects, he is still affected by one's that don't pick him as the target, such as Shantotto, Clouds first effect, Orlandeau or Cloud of Darkness :)
Oh yeah... way to forget your own video, Joe XD I haven't experimented enough with Lightning really, I've focused more heavily on Earth, which I think is the strongest colour, but I will do once I finish getting some of the bits :)
I hate Rikku so much too. Because Paine is very good too. Unlike say, Hope who is situational. So basically, 4 mana 10 forward with immunity. Gosh that's annoying.
I did yeah, but it's kinda special to me as it's a reminder of the tournament experience, they should be a little easier to get hold of in the coming few weeks though :)
I would've thought leviathan was on the list given the fact he can literally steal games with a low cost forward removal. ( has happened at my locals a lot and im salty about it)
I haven't really been able to playtest against a -ton- of things, but the deck I've made and playtested with has been doing very well and winning most games comfortably. It's massively focused on earth forwards with cards like Guy, Prishe, enna kros to put on late game pressure. It has 3 water cards... one leviathan for discard fodder and ex, and 2 cloud of darkness (instead of shantotto) because it combos better with vanille and emperor. Then it also runs wind backups exclusively for aerith protection, marie buff, and most notably rikku 2 drop. The deck's goal is to stall out the opponent. Due to cards like marie, enna kros, and backup monk you can focus heavily on early game and still have your dudes trade favorably into opposing dudes. It also has a favorable matchup against control because rikku gives you the ability to always win late game. I want to emphasize it is NOT a mill deck. It normally wins by choking your opponent out of resources early and just swinging in, however, it does win sometimes because towards the end of the game you can play a rikku and just start milling every turn unless the opponent aggresses you, in which case you just tama / cloud of darkness, and spam valefor till they mill out.
The Pickiest Penguin I actually agree with you in that I think Earth and Water are the strongest colours, but I'm sure others don't, and I've seen a lot of people trying to stall the game out and mill via Rikku, it's pretty solid :)
Love your content, as always, and keep doing what you're doing. I implore you to try a build though, its quite good. Though, I woulda mentioned red mage on the video because there is a reason you mentioned it as a counter to so many of those cards :P. Be prepared for red mage, or just kinda cry.
Brand new player, loving the commentary! Keep up the good work and the great info

Another awesome video. I can't wait until I get my hands on a booster set to see what decks I can make
This was a really great video. Would love to see an updated version of it now that we have many more sets. :)
Nice video ! Really usefull.
I also suggest (L) Lightning to deal with Rikku , because she can kill one of the other YRP members ( mostly Paine , but also the Forwards Yuna ) leaving Rikku weak against your cards like Lulu or even Odin.
great video to watch on my birthday :D keep it up also love the background in your cam.
ashley chalmers Happy birthday beautiful xx
very helpfull information, also love how you said at the start you dont like cussing then at the end you break out the b word on poor Rikku, keep the top content coming, lovin it ☺
John Steicke Haha, whoops, guess I need to watch my mouth more than i thought XD Thanks for the comment buddy xx

Love this list! Your game knowledge is so on point.
In regards to Ultimecia... i have outed it so many times by using Golem as a battle trick xD
Or kefka*
93Jec Earth counters her in a lot of ways :)
An updated video would be awesome! Hope all is well Joe!
classicrocknroller9 I can certainly work on something updated for this, thank you for the idea xx
Great video
good video even now, but whats the song at the beginning? it's sick.
Really good video! Though when dealing with Laan. You cant use the 4 cost Odin, since Laan is not a 4 cost forward. But the 7 cost Odin will do the trick. ;)
Emil Bergström Odin targets anything 4 or less :)

Mark Morris You're not the only one, my friend, hopefully it'll be sooner rather than later :)
In the game, Vanille pronounces it as "Heka-ton-share", hope that helps! :)
TriggerBuster It's weird, because the summon is based on the mythHecatonchires, which is where I got my pronunciation from, that Vanilles accent is weird XD
Joesephyr I think we can just agree that Vanille is weird haha.

Fervent One of my next videos is gonna be underrated cards, and he most definately is one of them :p
Joesephyr oh good to know ahah, I've been using him in some slow control deck to get a solid defense early on, anyway.

a lot of good advice !!!
Plz make a deck build guild for cloud Legend!! Light cloud ! Plz bro plz!!
neal Olinger Much as I loved L Cloud back in the day, he's somewhat outclassed by his H variant in Opus 4, if you're absolutely DESPERATE to run him though, you could try an FFVII ice/eartg build that makes uses of Genesis, Vincent and Cloud, as you'll keep the Jessie searcher and still have access to Ices shenanigans :D
Joesephyr I'm trying a fire and earth right now with Jess like you said but your saying ice and make it stronger?
Joesephyr would do you a build video on your thoughts I'm just tired of mono ice always winning :(
Joesephyr Also one more thing I was reading the text for the Jesse search card it says Category 7 and light cloud is a desidia 7 will she still search for him
awesome info thank you

so how does shantotto wipe zidane if your opponents abilities can't affect him?
Christopher Weaver Zidane can't be TARGETED by an opponents effects, he is still affected by one's that don't pick him as the target, such as Shantotto, Clouds first effect, Orlandeau or Cloud of Darkness :)
a earth/lighting deck should deal with all of those threads.. it seems!
Riccardo Mingolini True, though note that there aren't any Lightning cards on the list either ;p
Joesephyr Well Divider Gilgamesh is here :p
I seriously think Lightning is one of the strongest element right now
Oh yeah... way to forget your own video, Joe XD
I haven't experimented enough with Lightning really, I've focused more heavily on Earth, which I think is the strongest colour, but I will do once I finish getting some of the bits :)
Joesephyr I have seen a Lightning/Earth deck pretty solid, maybe this is the big stuff in FFTCG, Odin, Hecaton and a lot of powerful Forward
I shall have to look into Lightnings capabilities, I do however feel that L Lightning is overrated, she just costs a little too much
Yeah! My boy Divider Gilgamesh!
At least Lightning has something!
I usually pronounce it as Heck-a-tonn-chair, don't know where I heard it from.
This must be the most debated primal pronunciation ever.
do you think the Ramza 1-144R is a potential deck. I'd play it with wind, lighting and ice
Archiemon I really like both Ramza, but I haven't had time to build a deck with him just yet x
I hate Rikku so much too. Because Paine is very good too. Unlike say, Hope who is situational. So basically, 4 mana 10 forward with immunity. Gosh that's annoying.
Hey man did you get a holo promo Sephiroth or know anyone who would sell or trade my gf loves him and wants and I cant find :(
I did yeah, but it's kinda special to me as it's a reminder of the tournament experience, they should be a little easier to get hold of in the coming few weeks though :)
I would've thought leviathan was on the list given the fact he can literally steal games with a low cost forward removal. ( has happened at my locals a lot and im salty about it)
He is very good at that, but if I wanted to list every card I thought about when building decks, the video would be 3 hours long :P
Did this video age well? maybe. did Joe age well? ;)
Correct, there is no best deck. I promise. *coughcough*
Feel free to share with the group :P
I haven't really been able to playtest against a -ton- of things, but the deck I've made and playtested with has been doing very well and winning most games comfortably. A lot of Japanese players are running mill and it appears to be doing well for them, there's a reason I put Prishe and Guy on here :p
Love your content, as always, and keep doing what you're doing. I implore you to try a build though, its quite good. Though, I woulda mentioned red mage on the video because there is a reason you mentioned it as a counter to so many of those cards :P. Be prepared for red mage, or just kinda cry.
