@@koffinglolface1000 I know that, since the N64 doesn't have a sound dedicated hardware (that's the RSP's job instead, which also handles graphics), it means sounds will take some of the game's performance. Ideally that wouldn't be the case if lowering the music volume to 0% makes it so they aren't playing, but I have no idea if that's how the game's programmed... And since the music is played in real time (rather than played from one prerecorded music file), the console has to use multiple sounds simultaneously for the music alone. This game doesn't run slower the lower the framerate is, so the drawbacks are a more sudden visual feedback for the player, and potentially bigger input lag. Personally I'd have to play/watch any gameplay to confirm myself if the framedrops are identical if the music's all the way down to zero...
Rare was working on a sequel called Donkey Kong Country and was going to be released on the Gamecube but it was cancelled due to Rare being bought out by Microsoft. There is a trailer for Donkey Kong Racing that you can find on TH-cam.
I played this game my entire childhood, like before I could really play it I would juat hang out in the homeworld lol. But I had no idea there was so much I didn't unlock as a kid!
watching Diddy Kong Racing now is so cool. lots of memories of trying to beat it as a chillin, and sounds nostalgic as ever. super happy to see and hear it again
Congrats on another 100% WR!! Sad I missed it on Stream. You are so damn good at this game "I'm going to PB just because I'm fucking mad right now" lol, Great to see you follow through
It did cheat, insofar as the bosses and obstacles weren't simulated players subject to the same physics (they don't have any and are likely just following a path of waypoints). But that wouldn't have been relevant, since they weren't going to be playable.
Most racing games let ai players cheat. Look up "rubberbanding". Though it can be justified, since good game design should not allow runaway victories, handicapping the player is a fine solution to that, as long as it doesn't turn into punishing the player for winning.
@@creepeyredacted8914 One of the best features of Diddy Kong Racing on N64 is that it had no rubberbanding. I wouldn't exactly say that the bosses cheat. It's more like a physical time trial ghost. You can attack it to slow it down, but they will still try to finish fast. Mario Kart has rubberbanding like no tomorrow. However, they are no match for the bird lady in Banjo Tooie!
Never watched a speedrun of this game before, despite being my favorite N64 game (saying this as an N64 connoisseur)... I already knew a few tricks about it, so I'm having a blast halfway the video already hahaha
Each banana increases your top speed and acceleration by 2.5%, this caps at 10 bananas for a total increase of +25% speed. They basically work the same way as coins in Mario Kart.
Can someone explain to me, why he is warping via trophy race ? Why can't he just go to the worlds, he want? And why is the Statue in the W1 trophy race always gone?
completing dino domain tracks is faster than most other tracks in the game, so you save time there, if you complete the 4th track with losing a minigame, its its WAY faster because losing a minigame is fast, and you need to go to the minigame anyway to complete it so movement wise you dont lose much. As far as the trophy goes, the cutscene that is in queue is the one from the trophy you entered, so it will always show the dino domain trophy cutscene, but the actual trophy you are getting is the one from the world associated with the last track/minigame you completed. If i was to go out of my way to show the trophy box in those world you would see the trophy is there despite the wrong cutscene.
I don't know, but the best part of this run is that it's a RTA 20 minutes faster than the current TAS. Clearly the TAS fault for not incorporating many new strats, but this is an astounding run either way
Part of that comes from a number of factors. One is the old TASVideos ruleset that required a fresh state of the game, which means TT was not able to be used, and that alone slows down the run by quite a bit. Second, a good amount the strats that runners use now are not present in the old TAS like Tricky Skip, Smokey OOB and all of the routing differences that comes with Wrong Warp and Trophy Storage, as well as the old TAS implementing existing strats possibly not to the fullest capability. Third, the TAS also watched the entire first credits after beating Wizpig 1 which adds a good chunk of time, as it probably wasn't known that progression for beating wizpig is achieved once Wizpig starts his "tantrum" cutscene after you win the race. Hope that clears things up!
Imagine they remaster Diddy Kong racing, all my fellow millennials would geek Edit: I just watched the first track being completed in under 35 seconds... LMAO wow
you dont always A-Tap, only when not boosing/barell Rolling. Otherwise it actually slows you down since the a button speed is slower than the boost speed
Isn’t Drumstick faster than TT? Did you choose TT because they have better agility? I used to play this game all the time as a kid. I liked the game and thought the music was pretty good.
T.T. is actually much faster than drumstick except for one thing: straigh line barell rolls in plane. So he is used in time trial on certain plane track with long straight and few shrap turns, but T.T. is much faster overall so he is the best one for speedruns
@@ObiyoSRL nice. Some of those runs were jaw-dropping fast you absolutely crushed it-congrats on the record. Incredible how you were able to stay focused for that long with minimal mistakes. I think TipTop the turtle was my favorite when I played despite him not having as much speed his controls felt the best to me for some reason.
How come u don't have more subs? That was really fun to watch! But question, will speedrunners start using the rom patch that makes it 60 fps for running the game? That would fix the lag problems wouldn't it? Congrats again for this achievement!
Runs have to be done on official release of the game so i dont think anyone will do the patch especially since it does mess up with how u play the game because alot of the code tied to velocity is affected by frame rate
We do not do character categories since its the same thing but slower so theres is no interest/need, but i have played krunch 100% as part of the 100% All Character run i did a few years back. You can see it here: www.speedrun.com/dkr/runs/y8kvvvny
No, any character can be used from the start since they are unlocked forever once you have them (unless you completly factory reset your game). Same thing newer Mario Kart games do for example. Also the run is just so much more fun with the best character.
This run was really cool to watch! I do have two questions about the speedrun though, how does having the music on or off effect the game? And also, how does the wrong warp work exactly? Is it completely random on the two areas it can warp you? (also taking into account having the plane in Dragon Forest)
music off reduces lag, which in alot of cases alow you to go faster, i dont do it for full game runs because music is too good tho, but i could technicly save 5-10 secs atleast. As for wrong warp, it read a specific value which the warp uses to determine where to send you, but we do not know how to manipulate that value so it is basicly random at the moment
TY for making the WR run have music in it, you a real one.
Adding music makes the TAS faster because I don't fall asleep otherwise so my perception of time shortens
is there a difference? without the music?
