Check out this crazy tech that attaches to your teeth!
--
It’s Metal Gear Solid in real life where the
user can communicate using vibrations that
go through your teeth.
A US company called Sonitus technologies
has created a mic that uses bone
conduction technology to transmit sound.
Bone conduction technology has been
around for a while and its used for hearing
aid and sports headphones.
What this company has done though, is its
compacted this technology to the point that
it fits discreetly on your tooth. The
mouthpiece also contains a small
waterproof mic and a battery! To hear
sounds it generates vibrations that travel
through your skull and into your inner ear.
You may be wondering what this feels like.
The device apparently gives you the feeling
like the sound is coming from inside of your
head which is rather creepy.
Because the device works using vibrations
you will still be able to hear the incoming
sound even if you have helicopter above
you. I think this has the words James Bond
spy tech written all over it. You can
basically have a conversation with the
enemy without any sign that someone else
back at HQ is telling you what to say. The
mouthpiece can also share your biometric
data such as your heart rate, temp,
hydration, blood pressure and voice print.
This is the reason the US Military has
invested 10 million dollars into the tech. I’m
just waiting for apple to release their
version of this device costing a gazillion
pounds.
The mouthpiece uses a waterproof
microphone for outgoing communication. A
special shield encases the whole unit to
reduce noise interference so that the
person on the other end can hear you
LOUD AND CLEAR.
I’m the kind of person that thinks about all
the potential problems. For instance, what if
you swallow the device. I just hope that
outer casing is tough enough to not get
corroded by your stomach acid if you
swallow it. I heard that swallowing batteries
is pretty lethal and that would be a rather
painful death. You’d also have to take the
mouthpiece out whenever you eat or it
would get pretty smelly. And hopefully the
vibrations the mouthpiece generates won’t
end up loosening your teeth. At least if one
tooth falls out though, you have a few
others left to use.
I shouldn’t be cynical though; it looks like a
great advancement by reengineering tech
discovered years ago into something that
can change the way we communicate in
challenging situations.
They have already tested the device in
coast guard rescue missions where its
unusually very difficult to speak to the pilot
of the helicopter when the rescuer is being
winched down to a stranded ship. The
results of the tests were fantastic.
I just hope this technology will be used to
make a positive impact in peoples lives
through rescue missions and helping those
with hearing difficulties have more
confidence by using a discreet device.
This was my first video on tech news. A lot
of you guys form Instagram asked me to
start a series on this subject and if you
enjoyed it please like the video and leave a
comment. Thank you so much for watching
and have a great day.
