- Looking for a hardier, healthier breed of chicken to raise for our family freezer. We introduced the Rudd Ranger this year rather than the "Broiler" also known as the Jumbo Cornish Cross. After just a month we can see a significant difference and what we would call success with this new breed.

Thanks for the video we just started raising chickens first time . And we are excited. I like the tractor .
Great. Good luck with your birds! Our tractor is a little on the smaller end for 15 birds at only 18sq ft, but as they get bigger we will be moving the tractor twice a day which will give them 36sq ft of fresh grass daily.
Be interested in following this through and what you think at the end (butcher) vs a Cornish cross. I got Cornish again this spring but likely to try a variety of these this fall.
Absolutely we will be continuing to update our content with the progress of these birds!
After watching a lot of meat bird vids, I will be interested in your opinion of which breed is better. The fact that you mentioned the Cornish cross would eat and then sit down, matches what other people have said. Glad that the chicks have figured out to move with the tractor.
Thanks for the comment! We are at the 9 week mark with the Rudd Rangers right now and they are still doing great compared to the Cornish Cross we have had in the past. Now having said that we would be processing the Cornish at the 9 week mark and the Rangers appear to still be about 3 weeks out from. "market" weight. They are still very active and scratch and are supplementing their feed ration with grass and bugs way better than the Cornish ever did. I'm excited to see how they process out and how their carcass balances compared to the Cornish Cross.
