    Thank you for your videos of the Serenade of the Seas. My wife and I are considering a cruise on this ship and your videos are as helpful to us as they are informative! I did have to giggle on your dislike of the drink prices, however! We live in Washington DC and beers and cocktail prices on the ship are comparatively great and I could consider it a plus!

      Thanks so much for watching, Brian. We're glad you found the video helpful, and we hope that if you do end up cruising on the Serenade, our video will help you make the most of it! The drink prices we thought were expensive when we made this video we probably wouldn't think were so expensive anymore either, as I'm pretty sure the price of a drink here in St. Pete FL has gone up at least 30% over the last couple of years!

    That’s a bummer that there’s no dinner buffet..we usually skip the formal nights and eat at the buffet quite a bit while cruising. I need to check into the mead! Good tip about bringing water flavor drops along..great video!

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, we're guessing now that COVID restrictions are easing the dinner buffet is back up and running, but it was a bit of a bummer! We'd highly recommend the mead if you can find the good stuff!

  • @LucasWorldTravel
    @LucasWorldTravel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Goodness! I had no idea drink packages were so expensive! We would have skipped it as well. The pluses really do seem to outweigh the cons though. We don't usually go on cruises, but you make it look so fun and relaxing. We might be swayed...

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they are quite expensive. You really have to plan on drinking quite a bit to make them worth it. If you're on the ship to party, you'll likely get your moneys worth, but we were trying to save money and be a little bit healthier on this one! It may be a while before we go on another cruise, but we really do enjoy them now and then! It's certainly a low-stress way to travel!

  • @TheMapPinners
    @TheMapPinners 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Whoa I've never tried mead before. I had no idea it was so strong! Those two bottles would definitely last us a week! The sailaway experience looked awesome! I love that the captain timed it so you'd go under that iconic Tampa bridge at sunset. Very picturesque! Love your room balcony too. That seems like an absolute-must for a cruise

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well not all mead is quite that strong. We were actively searching for the strongest mead we can find😂 We really lucked out that it happened to be really good too! It was really cool sailing under they Skyway. The cool thing is that the lights on the bridge are different colors each night, so the next time we cruise out of Tampa it will be a different experience!

    Not sure about my fav part of this video. The food or that you like escargot and mead. We would get along great on trips. I’ve only had inside cabins…. Deep inside. But next time I’m getting a balcony. That room was fantastic.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh yes I'm sure we would! We actually didn't even make it through the full two bottles of mead, and it ended up saving us several hundred dollars by not having to get the drink package. We do sail in the inside cabins more often than not, but after this last experience, we might just continue to forego the drink package and put the extra money to towards the balcony room instead!

    I loved the variety of the food at the buffet, but hated that people could serve themselves and so many germs - I actually like that they serve the food for you now. I loved the coffee card when we didn't have a drink package. We actually worked out the prices for the drink package and when we get them on sale we find it's worth it for us (most of the time). I hope the Canadian restrictions ease so that it's a bit simpler to cruise again! That's one thing I noticed about Royal as well... the rooms aren't super modern, but I did like the layout and size.

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah same here. We would have eaten the buffet food regardless, but it does feel quite a bit more safe/sanitary when the staff are serving the food! We are with you on the drink packages too. Normally we plan to drink enough that it's worth it, but on the last couple cruises we found ourselves being so active during the day that by the time we started drinking in the evening we felt like we were drinking more than we even wanted to just to get our money worth. We sure hope that cruising gets simpler soon as well!

    • @Explorcation
      @Explorcation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We're glad you found the video to be helpful, Steve! As far as hotels go, we generally stay in more inexpensive hotels and don't have much experience with the higher-end type hotels that you'll find near the cruise port. That said, the Comfort Suites and Holiday in Express in Brandon, FL are both rated well, are reasonably priced, are in a good location, and are located an easy 15 minute drive from the cruise port. We hope this helps!

    The Drinks packages are a must but i missed out on it on my last cruise. I spent an extra $1000 on drinks, which in 10 days is a lot - but didn't have much else to do ! I was fine, but definitely better with a drinks paid for!
    You guys and your gratuities.......something us aussie's never get use to...LOL. But that did look like a nice coffee deal.
    I really hate the sales pitches, but guessing that was because the ship was half empty and they were trying to get as much as they can out of you.

    • @Explorcation

      Yeah that hole above Jamie in that shot was definitely a pigeon home 😂. So are gratuities not a thing on cruises that sale out of other countries? We've not yet got to experience a cruise that sails out of a non-US port.
      We've gotten the drink package on all but 3 of our 10 cruises I believe. This one was the first one that we really didn't miss it too much. But I think it was largely because we were so busy filming we rarely had time to drink... plus we had our two bottles of mead!

We were on Brilliance (Also Radiance) eight months ago out of Tampa and loved it. I really thought I was on Serenade. Five months ago we sailed out of Port Canaveral on Harmony.
