  • There are 7 recurring mistakes that agents make in life insurance sales and they all revolve around difficult and challenging conversations. Tough conversations are often needed in life sales to be effective and being willing to “go there” and have that difficult conversation is a learned and practiced skill that top producers don’t shy away from.
In this video Roger Short discusses the biggest mistakes agents make, why these conversations are often needed and lastly, what steps are necessary to become comfortable and effective when wading into this challenging area.

Learning a lot from this video. Thank you! One of my takeaway is to always remind myself that I'm talking to clients because they need something and it is my mission to identify that need and provide solutions.

I love how you broke every bit of the mistakes down. I really learnt a lot. Because here in Nigeria it's always really tough to convince prospects to see life insurance as a means to peace of mind for both themselves and their families and the next thing one tends to get agitated.
But I've really learnt how to be more empathetic and still be in control or in authority to help them👍👍

That last story gave me a flash back where I dealt w a similar situation with the beneficiary. He spent the money and didn't care that it left me scrabbling to pay off a debt to pay the funeral home. Fortunately there was a grant that helped pay otherwise would have been in the worst position. I fully understood then how important end of life planning is for the family left behind. Great video!!

Great video. I'm probably going to get into this field. I use the coffe drip example when people tell me they don't have money. You spend over $5.00 at Starbucks/Dunkin each morning on your way to work. That's over $100.00 per month. Can I ask how often you go out to restaurants each week? We all make choices

Thank you Roger, I'm a fan. The tonality and speed of you and other gangs talks are just wow.. I'm a fast talker and I really really need to remind myself all the time if I'm talking to someone about insurance I don't get too fast. I'm still learning, I was thinking of doing insurance full time but right now I still haven't got the confidence to let go of my 9-5 job since I haven't made much from insurance. I'm also struggling with family issues, but this short video has given me a new motivation to start again, no matter if I got rejected by other people or even by my family.

I would approach the conversation with sensitivity and respect for the individual's beliefs while highlighting the practical benefits and importance of life insurance. Say something to this effect... "I understand and respect your belief in God's protection. Faith is an essential aspect of many people's lives. However, life insurance can provide an added layer of financial security for your loved ones during unexpected and challenging times. It's important to consider that while we have faith in God's plan, we also have a responsibility to protect our families and ensure their well-being. By securing life insurance, you're not doubting God's ability to protect you, but rather demonstrating your love and care for your family by planning ahead. It's about being responsible and proactive to ensure their future financial stability."
