Didn’t they send one of the locomotives to the LNER to see how it rode there on the ECML?

If I recall correctly, one was sent and I think it was Gresley who tested it

According to OS Nock's book about rail accidents, Nigel Gresley himself rode on the loco as it traversed the reverse curves near Offord on very high quality track, in both directions. He was quite satisfied with the ride quality, even at high speed.
The conclusion from this is the poor condition and maintenance of Southern Railway track was the cause of the derailment, not the locomotive.

Not the Forth carriage, unless it came from the Scottish river

I have visited the bridge in Shoreham lane where this happened , it is strange to look at in the peaceful cold light of day to think of the carnage that happened here , there are local stories of cries and screams of the injured can sometimes still be heard from the crash scene years on.

I used to spot off that bridge bunking school (Wilderness) in the 80's, then later lived at the bottom of Shoreham Lane with a view to the passing stock hammering through there, down grade from Polhill. Even later in life, i had a loco-driver for a girlfriend once, going past here visiting me, who would of ever of thought eh !!!
