    Brilliant on so many levels. The perfectly timed cut aways, to Cleese looking directly at the camera - then back to Palin jabbering incoherently - then back again to Cleese with the line 'to tell young people that it's just not worth it'. …and intoning to the viewer in the style of a charity or government appeal for drug addicts.. absolute genius.

    Funny how coming back to this sketch decades after having seen it, I start noticing the underlying layers of social commentary from it. How this sketch is a perfect illustration of those people who fall in love with "the idea" of a project without ever becoming truly informed about all the things that are involved in making such project come true. And when they're finally faced with the facts, all their initial passion and commitment evaporates in the air, as they realize, this is not the thing for them.

      Ron, you have described my job (pre-pandemic). I am a Massage Therapist.
      People imagine petting models and bodybuilders for $80-$130 per hour.
      The reality, skipping over the toll deep tissue work and other strenuous repetitive movements takes on our bodies, is very different.
      There are:
      • common fungal, viral or bacterial infections (athletes foot, warts, yeast in skin folds, toenail fungus, ringworm, scalp diseases, acne on back, face and shoulders, ingrown hairs, etc.) Also skin conditions such as psoriasis, sunburns or other conditions that cause skin to peel in visible patches, even as simple as dry winter skin sloughing off when lubricated
      • Body odors (gas, bad breath, bad hygiene, less common physical anomalies, some infections like yeast, etc.)
      • heavier than “normal” body hair, large moles, scars, amputations, extra nipples, bones or other organs in odd places and other natural, not-unhealthy attributes that creep some people out.
      • sounds some find disgusting like tummy grumbles, farts, snorts or snoring, joints popping, squirting of oil or lotion
      • LAUNDRY…so much washing, drying and folding of table linens, blankets, towels, etc.
      • business expenses that dramatically lower our actual income including state or other municipal certification, registration or licensing fees, insurance, professional organization fees, continuing education tuitions, board certification, supplies, equipment, rent or other location fees, etc.
      I embrace or at least know how to handle most of these things. My peers and I have many fantastic, some hilarious, experiences we treasure. But whenever someone romanticizes about my career, I truthfully tell them that at least 3/4 clients involuntarily fart during their massage, often when I am massaging or stretching their glutes and my face is inches away. I also share that athletes foot, toenail fungus, and warts are common and contagious unless you know what you are doing. There are some who mistake massage therapists as sex workers. Others never consider the training involved to safely work on people who are pregnant, diabetic, those with high blood pressure, injuries, etc.
      I want to be a Rock Star. Just playing keyboards or drums during performances and having a worldwide audience of adoring fans…
      ;)

      @rontomkins6727 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@TheMoody138 Haha, that's amazing. Thank you for sharing that. That gives a whole different picture.
      And since you mention wanting to be a rockstar, while I am not one, I happen to play keyboards with a band, and that job also comes with a lot of baggage a lot of people don't consider. But it's still worth it :)

      Wonder, you may have hit on the hidden source of this material, some late night conversation or internal monologue, where a comedian ruminates on the human desire to be great, only to look in the mirror and recognize an entertainer, not a lion tamer... an ant tamer... which grew into an ant eater tamer, as it sounded close to the original idea, and since ant tamer was a bit too absurd to be believable, but the original, heartfelt insight was such, as a comedian is not likely to think much of his own profession... yet being the ant tamer, not the ant, means the ones he's tamed are even more pathetic - the ant masses, cheering the entertainer, who himself wishes to be great yet recognizes he can't be.
