    Dennis, I had to chuckle to myself. As the project was being done and you were giving instructions, the video reminded me of one of those cooking videos where the person explains their cooking process. For someone that needed to repair the leaking cylinder, the video was very well done, and we all learned something about hydraulics. I always like to take advantage of seeing someone else do these repairs, since there are so many variations and differences in cylinders out there this really helps when the time comes we might be facing a similar repair. Thank's for taking the time to show us the whole process. Nick, North West Farmer

    Great how to video. It's hard to film and work one handed. I drill a hole in a short block of wood, saw it in half, and use them for soft jaws on the vise. Tie em' together and hang em on the wall. I've got em' from 1/2 in. to 1 3/4. They're pretty handy for holding round things. They sell those kits to fit different cylinders; sorta one kit fits all. That's why they charge an arm and a leg for em'. I use electric tape on the threads to help keep the seals from getting buggered up when putting them back together.

    You don't want to use petroleum jelly/Vaseline, it will dry out the rubbers used in the seals and o-rings. You want to use a silicone grease, there are seal specific greases.

      @DLHFarms  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've used it for years on many seals with no issues

      @@DLHFarms We made it through our third season with the 6 star Krone. We've had issues with the sealed rotors...[twice] . Don't ask me to give star ratings to this $22,000 tedder. We just got the bill for the kit. $146.00. I hope that is for both sides. There isn't a lot of oil loss, but in transport position, enough oil flows down cylinders and actually gathers on the roters. Pretty close to ending the worst haying season we've EVER had. Rain rain rain. Never made a bale of hay in JULY. Keep the vids coming. :)

    Nice to see you, Dennis and Merry Christmas and all that. You can put those in a vice, but you need to use some soft jaws of some sort. Keith Fenner and Abom79 have a bunch of hydraulic cylinder rebuilds on their channels if you want to see how they stick it in a vice. I ain't trying to be rude or say you did it wrong, just trying ta help ya free your hands up and make your job easier.

    A vise would be alright to support the rod as long as there was either wood or thick leather between the jaws of the
    vise and the rod and even then, only to help support it and not clamp down extremely tight. Great video thank you for taking the time to share

    I worked as a mechanic for 34 years at the 'job' and have packed many cylinders. I used to pay the big bucks to pack my own JD equipment cylinders here on the farm. Then I found a company here locally that sold the individual seals in bulk by size and type and if you took the rod from the cylinder they would put the seals on the head for free. My kits went from $80(+) to around $20. The company was called Lube Specialist. I think they are a national brand, check if you have one close by. It will save you big money.
