Sad to see only 163 likes and 27 comments for this fantastic enlightening video which I imagine took a great deal of effort in research and production.
Very enjoyable, I learned a great deal, previously unknown history about the area from this video, its a shame that many more people havent done the same.
Being the first of 3 such videos it would be helpful to provide links to the other two videos in the notes.

It’s quite sad to see places like Southport, Blackpool, Skegness etc…once thriving holiday and seaside towns falling slowly into decay. I was in Southport collage the year of the 200 anniversary. We did a play at the Atkinson theatre celebrating local legends like “Peg leg Bates”. It was called “Fair play”. The musical director was Pete Scholes who I believe still teaches there and the director a bloke called Mark Babych who worked at the Octogen in Bolton I believe. Fond memories of a happier and strange as it may seem to say it, a more innocent time. x

Meols. Coming from Liverpool, there is a Meols on The Wirral which we pronounced “Mells”. Interesting to know what the word actually meant. (Moved to Southport in 1968 btw)

Meols is "Sand Hill" Old Norse I think.

@@MrRonjax Thanks Ron, makes sense. Surprising how many Anglo-Nordic place names survive.
