_"It is up to the data handler to keep information private"_
Yep, these two idiot cops don't quite understand that they are investigating themselves . . . if they did conclude that there was reasonable evidence that AY had captured personal or sensitive information, then it would be an admission of the police's own breach of The Data Protection Act (GDPR) by not keeping that information secure.

Personally I would have asked the officer if he was "confirming" that they are breaching GDPR rules. He's then between a rock and a hard place. On the one hand he's confirming that THEY are breaking the law on the other he would be confirming that there was no sensitive data that could be recorded. 🤔

And when he said bitch look how quick PC Reed went from semi-decent and reasonable to petty, just because he caught a whiff of something he might be able to use against them. Never be fooled by decent coppers; they will beat you senseless without a second thought if their supervising officer commands it.

They all do this, they can be needlessly aggressive, rude, threatening you with various offences (even if they haven't worked one out yet) demeaning, belittling, demanding personal information . . . and then when challenged on their behaviour they reframe it as "I'm just asking a few polite questions" . . or "I'm just having a friendly chat".

Well done AY, another great one.
I've watched many audits now and there's something I've yet to hear from any at the exact moment it should be said.
Cop: "If there was information relating to your mum, your partner, one of your family members, you'd not want someone poking in through the window taking photos"
The response should always be: "I'd be bloody furious that you have it available for anyone with a camera to see it through the window!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
There really is no response they could come up with for that imo.
Anyway, just my 2cents worth. Carry on. 😄

If you captured sensitive information of any kind, in fact if you simply captured personal information of someone the police are dealing with, it's the police (and not you) who would have breached The Data Protection Act 2018 ('GDPR'). If they have any kind of information that is subject to the act, then the onus is on _them_ to keep it secure . . . to use a stupid example, could they put up a billboard with private information on, and then harass members of the public, and threaten them with committing an offence, for photographing or looking at it ? Of course not, they would be the ones in breach of the legislation. In the same way it is the police who are in breach of the legislation by having information visible from and by the public, it doesn't matter the information is on a billboard, a website or on a computer screen, if the public can see it, they have breached the act.
Basically . . . they're harassing you to find out whether you had captured sensitive information of any kind, information that they are legally required to keep secure . . . and if they did find that was the case, that you had filmed sensitive information, then they've simply admitted that they (and not you) have breached The Data Protection Act, and should (a legal requirement) report themselves to the ICO.

What is wrong with these people? And just so that sausage is clear about it, he was NOT pleasant towards you, he was aggressive from the start and his aggressive behavior stems from his ignorance and hostility.

Their initial reaction of being heavy handed and demanding is lazy. It relies on intimidation rather than respect. The problem is it works on 99.9% of people. But for the people it doesn't work on, there's nowhere for them to go after it doesn't work because they've already showed their hand. So they go into ego protection mode, which accomplishes nothing. If they were more shrewd with their approach in the first place, they would have more options with where to take it. And they would earn more respect.

It's their responsibility to protect data. Even if you did record data that's not an offence by you. Its an offence but its the police doing the offending.
