That's a cornice of snow....no one's gonna take a chance and stand on it with that drop underneath. The actual summit rock is beneath the ridge in the vid, I believe. Here's a good take on summiting..mention's Manaslu, in fact.
@@Sokol10 Nice video that one. However on that video he is standing on a ice cornice that is situated on the top of the 4000m high Lhotse face. Literally playing with his life. Depending on how much snow there is on this cornice and how high is temperature, most people doesnt stand there. Those that do know that cornice can fall.
For respect to a sacred mountain like this one, the real summit is never stepped on. Also you sound like the kind of fool that would try to do it and fall to the other side because of snow cornices
This not the real summit. It was in 2021 Manaslu has been summited for real since a long time. Mingma G provided video footage of the real summit. From the 2022 climbing season on the foresummit shown in this video will not be counted as a real summit anymore. Old 'summits' will not be taken away though, since most climbers never knew they did not summit, or simply were tricked by their guides.
Its C2 - before 2020 almost all Autumn expeditions finished at C2 so 90%+ of climbers never got to the true summit which you can see right behind him, the 2nd bump.
Unfortunately that is not the summit but C2, the new summit as of 2022 has now been agreed to be a little further on about 20/25ft higher (behind the guys in the video) even tougher to reach.
Yes, its not super hard to get to, just before where he takes pics you need to go down towards right hand side, about 10m or so and then traverse about 30m and go up about 15m on 60 deg max slope.
The true summit is about 15m or so further, he is at C2 which was standard end of autumn climb before 2020. Its not super hard to go to the true summit so I fail to see why C2 was chosen - I guess the short distance and little elevation change was seen as meaningless for the Sherpa given the run around way to get to the true summit, have to get down 10m, across and up 15m or so.
I thought they changed the rules to where you had to go to the true summit to get credit for summiting the mountain. Even though it's not that much further ahead,, to me it looks like it's hard to get to because of the narrowness, but I'm no expert. On a side note, it looks like it's hard to tell How much of the summit is just snow and how much is Mountain. I would be worried the snow would give way if there's no ground below it
@@GR-bn3xj well, there is no snow in spring so we sort of know. Some go ridge route some do a descent traverse and up. I think the 2nd way feels safer and 90% I will go that way in few weeks.
@@tomk3732 I never thought about that, during the spring there won't be the snow. Thank you. I always picture mountains having snow at all times at the top. Even though it's not as treacherous to get up there as some others, (in theory from what I have read,) That summit would freak me out.
the summit seems to be 10m further. But they can just hire a helecopter and pay less then they did for the expedition and reach the summit some other day.
That’s one tiny summit! I’d be scared a gust of wind would blow me off there! On another note, climber gasping for breath WITH oxygen and the Sherpa standing there like a boss! Calm as a cucumber and barely breathing!
Good luck to you Justin! Just remember 2 things, 1) don’t be a hero. The mountain will be there next season, and 2) Summiting is optional. Getting down alive is mandatory! EDIT ~> your comment is 4yo. Are you still planning to climb? Have you done it already?
Imagine paying 30K+ $ and having a sherpa carrying you to the top, but once almost there, being incapable of reaching the actual summit because you have no idea wtf you're doing. But then the government still recognises your summit because.. money. And you, living in a lie for the rest of your life.
Greetings from Tokyo. This is the famous false summit. The true summit is in the background. Not many have the onions to get to the summit. My brother tried and did not make it.
Climbers don't step on the summit of Kanchenjunga either. Frankly, anyone with the stones to stand on a 3 foot wide ledge at 8100+ meters and with THAT kind of a drop on either side can stop short.....they made it.
Either you got the wrong one, or its danger exceeds its technicality. It's supposed to have the 4th highest death-on-mountain to successful ascent ratio, of the 8000ers.
See that's an example of poor ethics. So called peak picture, but the real peak can clearly be seen in the background but most probably the guy will run around saying that he was on the peak. :(
That has GOT to be the scariest most narrow ridge I have ever seen out of all the 8k mountain videos out there. It's insane.
Can you imagine being the first person up there to have to fix the lines and climb without a line? Crazy
that's a really scary summit
Scariest.
There is like zero margin of error on that summit. You slip, you're done.
No shit! You're over 8000 meters up and on at MOST a 3 foot wide ridge....YIKES!
It looked higher behind them.

Is the peak behind them a little bit higher? Is that the true summit?
Apparently that's a Cornice, and doesnt count unless you want to die seconds after standing 1m higher
The true summit is even behind the cornice seen in the background. Very few have actually been there.
Isn't the summit the one a bit further? I seems higher than the one you are standing at in this video? Nevertheless, spectacular footage!

Kukuczka was the King of mountaineering.
Also new route in K2 with Piotrowski and his partner died. Polish line has never been repeated.
