Very nice Dan…you’ll need a warehouse soon as you say you also got the Jeep back !! Tyne foot tunnel…✅ very interesting. Must ask the missus (Geordie lass) if she knows about it.
I knew of it…. But never been, definitely going to return and walk through. Yes I am getting short of space 😖 but I really did regret letting the Jeep go. Thanks for watching, hope your well 👍🏼
Yeah i wouldn’t part with my ZX it’s a cracking little car, and usually gets more attention than that high value stuff at shows. It’s at the North East, near North Shields, goes under the river Tyne 2 road tunnels and 1 foot tunnel Thanks for watching 👍🏼
@@CarAddictGarageNE I did have brief time with a citroen AX spree with a 1 litre engine and it was a fun little car, it was turquoise metallic and it really looked good. The AX and ZX were stylish cars.
Yeah my dad has loads of AX as garage run a-bouts when I was younger. Have a look at my latest video on the car auction one of the first cars on there is an AX i would e tempted to bid on, also a ZX in there I cover 👍🏼
That's a cracking car. My uncle used to run a diesel ZX in the 90's for a long daily commute and he had it years, probably the most reliable car he ever owned. French cars of this era do have a tendency to handle very well yet have a very smooth floaty ride, even my Mégane coupe rides way better than you would ever expect it to do. With regard to the power steering, my Grandfather had a brand new K reg Rover 214 GSi and that didn't have PAS either. I believe at the time it was reserved for the 1.6. I wasn't aware of that pedestrian Tyne tunnel either. I'm.surpeised that wooden escalator survived this long though as I thought they were all removed following the dire in the London underground in the 80's as it was a major cause of why the fire was able to spread so rapidly.
Yeah these ZX are fantastic car have always liked them, diesels are fantastic but very much agricultural these days…. But the little TU3 has not really aged at all, been injection it’s just like a new car, starts on the key, nippy around town, and sits at 65/70mph very nice, and really good on fuel, plus cheap tax been the 1.4, As for the PAS I wouldn’t change it, with the little correct good year compacts, even when not moving it’s light, and fantastic feedback while driving, also at this age the PAS would be causing issues with leaks. My second car was V reg Megane super comfortable car. Yes funny that I had a chat with the security guard asking if it’s ok to record, and that immediately come to mind the Kings Cross I think it was 1987 disaster caused by wooden escalators, said they haven’t been in operation for decades, just used as stair case…. Long way to walk but I definitely want to go back and walk through. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I've got a '97 P reg ZX on 81k with the 1.4i engine and it's not in as good condition as yours. Power steering still works!!! Under the bonnet it's had a small weld in that same place you were pointing out so watch that area. Everything works though but it's got a weird engine noise. The 1.4i isn't quick though but if you keep the revs high it gets you round the doors reasonably well, actually had to overtake a Tesla in it the other day! Just to add, I thought mines was totally rot free as well but I had to get a soft patch on the sill welded for the MOT. In the year I’ve had it I’ve done the brakes front and back, changed the timing belt and water pump (it’s every 40k btw), changed the rear shocks and serviced it. It drives great but has an awful noise under load which I hope is either alternator bearings or rear engine mount needing changed.
Yeah lucky mine is non power steering thankfully, that could be the issue your PAS pump. Look all over this one and it’s absolutely mint underneath no rust bubbling anywhere, that area in the video was due to brake fluid spilled on you the paint and it stripped it. No they ain’t quick, but in comparison to the XUD 1.9D non turbo they are far quicker and more refined….. plus under £200 tax the 1.9 are £320 now Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I have owned three...two were early ones and the newest facelifted model was much more stable at speed...watch out when making quick turns particularly down slight inclines. Check for rot at the front of the two front shock strut towers. Headlight mounts are likely broken or will break in time. I think I have a tow bar somewhere for the 1.9 diesel. I don't think they were galvanized but they were well treated against rust. All of mine had that rear seat...one had that sun visor and all had tired/loose stretched elastic cords on the rear parcel shelf....enjoy your new French flyer!
This thing handles an absolute treat, all brand new good year tyres, no power steering, can really feel everything through the wheel. Ah zero rust on this one, no welding and not even any signs of corrosion anywhere. Yes like the AX headlight mounts on little ball joints again they are like new
@@CarAddictGarageNE so glad you are loving your French Flyer! Shock tower rust is very likely to happen and we had to cut out the section and welded a new piece in all three cars. They are quirky cars but lovely to drive. I miss mine.
Not this one been in London all it’s life, off the road for years and I don’t run it over the winter. I know inner front arches are very common and these are absolutely solid, more so nothings hidden by the PAS tank. Have a look on my other videos, only rust there was, is someone let brake fluid run down the inner wing and it stripped the paint off, what i have re coated. Plus it’s been fully Langoguarded
What a find that is! The 1.4 TU engine is a lovely old unit, and they really don't need power steering on the little petrols. I've got a couple of Citroens with the TU engine, they're great. I agree with the ride, they ride and handle surprisingly well. I really like ZXs, they were a great car in their day. I had a ZX TD Aura Estate a few years ago, very enjoyable. Yours looks incredibly tidy, rare for a ZX as they often get a bit neglected and rusty. Not many left now either. If you ever want to part with the ZX, please let me know, I'd be very keen! Definitely a good idea not to use it through winter, it would ruin it. Keeping wise, the Fiesta seems to have replaced the Civic for winter and dog use. The merc seems like a great more modern daily user, but it doesn't sound like you need that. The ZX is perfect for classic and retro car shows... I'd keep the ZX and Fiesta van... Do keep me in mind if the ZX doesn't suit you though...
I have always been a big fan of the TU engine from day one, simple to work on, economical, reliable and I think powerful for what they are, pulls tv his ZX along no problem. This is my second ZX, had a white Reflex 1.4 estate again fantastic car wish this was an estate. Just wish I had storage for it…. Yeah I will let you know if I sell, taking it to car show 14th at Corbridge. I do like an XUD Citroen, but these TU are so unappreciated, ride quality on these ZX are so close to the hydraulic Citroens. Thanks for watching as always mate 👍🏼
Hi Dan. That Citroen is a great addition to you fleet. You see it, we see it. Do what you need to do. To bring it back to A1 condition. See you in the next one. 👍👍
What an amazing find! These were always a bit overshadowed by it’s sister Peugeot 306 but did everything just as good. Keep it! You won’t find another one like it, although agree that it shouldn’t be used in the winter.
I really didn’t expect it been so clean, not seen anything like it for a long time hence I just had to have it…. Especially been such a different spec all the electric extras on the interior, but nice and basic on the exterior, and that TU3 engine is a little gem…. Cheap tax too £99 for 6 months. Just wish I had storage for it. Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I am from Spain and I also have a zx 1.4i 75cv, mine has been stopped for 6 years because it was overheating and consuming a lot of antifreeze. I am in the process of rehabilitating it. It has no power steering or air conditioning.
Lovely to hear people from Spain are watching my channel…. Thank you 👍🏼 Could just be simple as your thermostat, even worst case head gasket are an easy job on the TU3 engine. I don’t miss the powers steering gives such an improved driving experience, plus less to go wrong
It's in fantastic condition shame the last owner had to let it go because of feral kids. I think it would be nice to see it go to another citroen enthusiast who's going to dry store it. The fiesta is more useful with having the dogs I would keep that.
Yes it’s a shame people need to move cars on because of vandalism, shame it’s aloud to go on these days. Yeah the dogs are definitely not getting getting into the ZX no chance lol . Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I understand the ZX had a galvanized body hence no rust. I've had two and neither had more than the odd tiny spot of rust. I sold the last one to a mate for £100 and he's still razzing about in it two years later. I'm hoping to persuade him to sell it back to me one day!😁
Yeah I think so as well, as the body’s hardly rot at all, I would be definitely trying to get that ZX back off your mate. Wonder how much he would ask for it? Thanks for watching 👍🏼
I went through the tunnel for the first time in years to go to the WB and Sons classic car auction in Killingworth on Saturday 23rd July. I had no idea about the payment rules and regulations and managed not to see the signs because i was watching the road instead! Went online to pay a couple of days later then when i rang them up i realised i had a £30 fine because i hadn't paid within 24 hours or whatever. This is possibly the biggest council scam of all time, i can only imagine the thousands of pounds a day they must be making from this! Some bunch of been counters in a council meeting probably had a conversation something like, what is the absolute minimum amount of time we can allow drivers to pay before we can fine the you know what out of them. I will absolutely NEVER use the Tyne Tunnel again. Greedy council scum!
I fully agree it’s absolutely disgusting, I use it as little as possible, I just keep the app on my phone with cars I have registered to it. But to completely cashless is madness, they knew exactly what they are doing, it’s just one big scam. I would hate to live nearby and have to use it all the time. The money they have made it will have paid for its self time and time over! Thanks for watching 👍🏼
