- I used to hate the idea of loops and G-forces. These days, things have changed: so I invited @JayForeman to join me at the British Aerobatic Academy, to see if either of us had the Right Stuff. Spoiler: we really didn't.

So here's the new channel! Thanks to all the team who worked on getting this ready. Videos every other Saturday, 6pm UK time. I have no idea if this is going to work: It's experimental, it's collaborative, and I'm nervous about it because it's different. But here goes!

That's a coping technique. I have a ton of chronic pain, and I'm often saying that. I'm not telling other people I'm fine, I'm telling myself.
On a serious note, that's why it is so important to have a (current) therapist, a caretaker or a supervisor that knows that you do that.
So they can double-check, when you say you're fine. Especially if you're saying it in front of people (surroundings or a group) that are ready to take down anything you claim, want or ask. (Not suggesting Tom had that, but I have that often.)
@@Widdekuu91People are more resilient than they look. The support of a therapist and helpful friends is important but people usually can measure their own limits and if someone in recovery is pushing too hard it takes a good friend to help set limits when they cannot. Helpful people are everywhere. I wanna believem Tom had folks around him like Jay who could help with Tom's anxiety if he hit a point he couldn't go on.

I like this new format. It definitely feels a little rough, but I love the longer form and quasi behind the scenes this provides. I don't know if you have plans for this, but a park bench-like discussion afterwards would be awesome.
jay is so f-ing witty dude, even if was scripted, Jay has done a fabulous job executing it.

The camera on the wing almost giving the illusion of the synced frame rate, The GEEEK callsign, and the fact that my stomach went blergh on some of that made it highly enjoyable.
With UK planes all having a registration starting with G, it makes it either an aerobatics plane called "GEEEK" or "Gee EEEK!" - either seems fitting
It's a "tail registration" number, not a call sign. But yes, many countries will let you pick the registration number in the same manner as vanity car license plates. There's an Embraer Phenom 300 in Canada that has the tail registration of C-FWTF (Stands for "Fly Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays".)

I enjoyed it. When you said experimental I wasn’t expecting the episode to be formulaic. You’re both so talented that ‘off the cuff’ dialogue, appears scripted, when it’s not. It reminded me of the fun parts of BBC’s Newsround or Blue Peter.

it's great to see tom in a more relaxed, unscripted setting again. i used to love the park bench cos i found tom genuinely funny and as amazing as his content is now i've missed that a little bit
This sounds like your average COD voice chat.
Even though Tom has done things like this before, it still seems like an event you really can't know how you'll make out until you try it. That's a bit intimidating. Glad to see Jay come through with smiles despite having a rougher time.
Also a brave thing to do with a camera in your face - there's no dignified way to pass out or fill a bag ;)
From experience: aerobatics is the best fun you can have with your clothes on. Period.
I enjoy the normal Tom Scott content but this is just on another level. So authentic, interesting and fun. I think this channel has a long and bright future ahead

When flying with passengers, I always keep asking for a percentage of nausea. As long as it is 0%, we are good. If they say like 5%, it is straight and smooth flying from there on. When the passenger reports 5%, they are actually on the verge of throwing up.
YUP, as a pilot, ask how I know 😲
Anything that doesn’t completely recede with a couple of deep breaths requires keeping a sick bag ready.
Pro Tip: Make sure you actually HAVE a sick bag on board; once we had to dump the documents out of the 'arrow' bag, which was nicely clear, which is nice when holding a sloshing half full bag of barf.
I won't get into details, but I had the opportunity to fly in a very, very nice private helo. As in...it was the private helo of a large tech company CEO. The owner was not present.
I joked to the pilot about how I get sea sick (I do, but it takes a lot) and he immediately jumped out (right after startup, but before take off obviously) and grabbed a bag.
I thought it was hilarious. Pilot was not amused 🤣
I went on a sightseeing tour in a Cessna once, i tried to ask thevpilot where i was supposed to vomit, but i couldnt get the voice activated microphone to work consistently and faiped to get it to transmit that. I did make it back to ground with my lunch contaoned.
A friend puied in a Beaver on a super violen flight (the flight was just barely allowed to take off in thay weather). I actually found the more violent jolting far less nauseating than the slow ups and downs of the sightseeing tour.
"I said, stand on the cushions, and then I didn't stand on the cushions" One of the best character development arcs I've ever seen
So, looks like the second channel content will be... Tom. Just Tom himself (with friends of course) as opposed to information or humor (or paid adverts with surprisingly poignant themes). More of a lifestyles adventure vlog... I am so on board with it.

It gets easier with practice. The RAF used to send trainee pilots who were suffering from air sickness up in a Hunter where they'd be taken to the point of being sick, recover, then repeat.
Turns out, there's a lot of things that can be trained...
I was just thinking that those prop driven aerobatics planes are very much the modern equivalent of a Spitfire or Hurricane. They even have a Polish pilot to complete the Battle of Britain vibe.
I get that if you're dead set on being a pilot you'll be willing to push through that, but it just sounds like torture to me.

I love that the pilot of Tom's plane had a little Polish chequerboard decal on the nose, and a 303 Squadron patch on his flight suit.

Can’t thank you enough for adding subtitles to these videos, even with this being a so-named “second channel.” It’s really helpful for me as I have auditory processing difficulties, especially when trying to listen to the garbled radio-quality voices. Clearly you and your team have put a lot of effort into making this unscripted format still feel professional and easy to watch!

I watch Map Men on Jay's channel and this got me really excited. Did not disappoint.
The really cool thing about this, is that you can see just how skilled the professional pilots really are. Tom and Jay were really feeling the immense force of every maneuver, while the pilots were just stared with stoney expressions.

I couldn't imagine just popping into a plane for some aerobatic flying. You both pushed through and handled it well. Jay was excellent in this collaboration.
