【Classic Music in Film ④】
This masterpiece by Mozart appears in a 1985 British film “A room with a view.”
The film is based on the E.M. Foster’s novel and directed by my favorite James Ivory!
Some of you may call the film an old fashioned Rom-Com, but the actors are all fantastic in the film as well as the scriptwriting, costume design, art direction…and so on.
Specially, classic music plays an important role in the film.
Starting from famous Puccini’s Aria is used in the opening, many classic pieces appear in the film.
As Lucy, the protagonist, plays the piano in the drama, you can enjoy several piano repertoire including Beethoven and Schubert, as well as the Mozart sonata.
It only appears a few measures in the film, so I decided to introduce an entire first movement in this video for the people who never heard of the piece. (※The sonata consists of the three movements and I didn’t do the repeat)

【映画の中のクラシック名曲シリーズ ④】
さて、今日ご紹介する映画は
🎬ジェームズアイボリー監督
『眺めのいい部屋（1986）』
🏆アカデミー三部門受賞(脚色　美術、衣装)
ヘレナ・ボナム・カーター演じるルーシーが従姉に連れられフィレンツェにやってくる。ところが案内された宿の部屋の眺めが良くないことから不満を漏らしていた彼らに眺めのよい部屋との交換を申し出る親子が現れる、、、。ここから生まれるドラマとは如何に？
自分が心から好きな人は一体誰なのか？理性と本能の狭間で揺れ動くルーシーの心の変容と彼女を取り巻く人々の心の機微を映し出す役者陣が見事な作品。
この映画の注目ポイントの一つは音楽。
主人公のルーシーがピアノを嗜んでいることから、劇中にはこのソナタの他にもベートーヴェン、シューベルトなど、さまざまなクラシックのピアノ曲が登場します。
さらに、オープニングに流れるプッチーニのアリアをはじめ、オペラ曲も色々登場します。
ただ、このモーツァルトのソナタが映画の中で使用されるのはわずか数小節、それはあまりにも勿体無い！ということで、今回、全3楽章の中から映画に登場した第一楽章（リピートなし)をお届けします。
モーツァルトの数少ない短調の作品の中でも、
とりわけ人気の高いイ短調ソナタ。モーツァルト特有のリリシズムや軽快さに加え、ドラマティクでシンフォニックなサウンドが聴く人の心を掴むのだと思います。
