I often see people on YT or tiktok making videos of their cats gagging when they crumple aluminum or scratch something to make a sound and they think it's funny and keep doing it. Meanwhile the cat keeps retching uncontrollably. It makes me angry and breaks my heart that they are doing this to their pets continuously as a joke.

Totally agree. Some are even worse. Yesterday I watched a video in which the person put hot water in her cup because the cat drinks out of her cup. And she laughs about it when the cat drinks it... sigh....

kudos to julie - she recognized something was wrong and went to the vet instead of just blowing it off as something her cat just...does. and when the answer the vet gave her didn't sit right with her gut, she reached out to somebody with more information. all of that, plus she didn't force her cat to have a reaction on camera (even for the sake of "diagnosis" or providing more info), but provided a video of it happening in the past. she's such an awesome cat mom! you go julie!

This didn't happen to my calico until she was 17 - then suddenly almost every high-pitched noise would send her into a full on epileptic seizure. The first time I witnessed this, she took off, sliding sideways, heading for the wall (I caught up to her before she hurt herself). After some help from the local vet, I learned that this was relatively normal in 16+ year old cats and just to snuggle her tightly when she'd have a seizure. When the shaking stopped, she'd look at me like "why am I here - and why are you holding me?" Then she'd trot off and eat like nothing happened. My household modified her environment and kept those high frequencies away from her as much as possible - we'd do that for any family member. Otherwise, she was perfectly happy and healthy and passed at the age of 23.

I have above average hearing and suffer with chronic tinnitus as a result. I can hear every high frequency noise in my home. Even if something is turned off, if it's still plugged in.. I'll hear it.

My Maine Coon cat was very sensitive to specific noises and he let me know he didn't like them by pawing at my hand. The sharper the noise the worse he reacted. And to him the worse was having my cell phone playing that gosh aweful elevator 'your on hold' music. Now 17 and deaf he is no longer bothered by noises whether I can hear them or not. A cats hearing is very sensitive so epileptic reactions is totally reasonable. Good catch Julie and Bucket! Thank You Cat Daddy for presenting this cat health issue.

Oh my gosh!!! So last year when I moved into my new house (it’s an old house with gas heater attached to the wall) I was trying to light my heater but was being unsuccessful. I had just moved in during the winter and was freezing. The ticking noise from trying to light anything gas (stove or heater) went on for like 30 seconds and towards the end I thought to myself wow this sound is annoying I wonder if my cat can hear. And the second I stopped the ticking my cat flew off the couch, ran herself into the other wall on the apartment and smashed her head, then she ran into another wall.and then had a pretty severe seizure, a lot of shaking, she urinated on the floor with the loss of control, and then she just fell to the floor while she was returning to normalcy. It was the most freaky thing to watch and I swore I was watching her die. I felt to my core it was because of the sound of the Tick but the emergency vet told me it was carbon monoxide poisioning Lmao. I was like ehhhhh no like we just moved in and have a monitor. 9/10 times vets are right but not this time haha. Anyways, hear to say this does happen... and a lot of the times in elderly cats. My cat also almost developed into another seizure when I was clicking my pen while studying but I noticed her head jerking and stopped it. She is a okay now and still kicking her 19 year old legs!!

I bought this professional skin scrubber from Amazon that vibrates at a high frequency to lift blackheads and other dirt from your pores. I turned it on and started using it, my cat got up and walked over to me, at first I thought he was just confused about the vibration sounds, but then his head started jerking and he was gagging. I immediately turned it off and never used it again. Without seeing this video months ago, I would’ve had no idea what was happening to him. I’ve never seen him react like that to any other noise. I’m glad Jackson Galaxy put out this video. People on TikTok need to see this, I’m so tired of seeing people purposely putting their cats through that. It’s really just animal abuse.

One of our cats has epilepsy but I don't have any videos of his seizures. He hasn't had one in 7 years now because his medication is working perfectly. But at first our vet thought he was just having stomach trouble. His face would twitch and crinkle up, then he'd cry loudly afterward (probably disoriented) and drool a bit. We knew it had to be something else though so we kept bringing him in. Most of his seizures were only facial but he had a full-body one at the vet, which showed them exactly what the issue was. Sometimes you have to trust your gut when you think something is wrong with your babies.

I'm a cat lover (and long-time My Cat from Hell watcher, I just subscribed here). My beautiful Russian Blue mix died a couple of weeks ago, but this resonates with me. In addition to being a cat lover, I'm a singer with a large voice. I noticed that Bruce Wayne (my cat, if it isn't obvious) would move to another space in the house if I started to practice or even if I put on some opera music (particularly he did NOT like male opera voices!) I never saw any behavior except taking his leave, but when I inevitably get another cat I will definitely be more sensitive to this.

Hi Jackson! around halloween my friend came to visit and has been to my apartment before and has met my two cats blue and finn. not even a full day of my friend over my cat blue experienced her first siezure. i took her to the emergency vet right away and they mentioned it could be from stress of my friend over. which seemed strange because she was hanging out with him in the same room. until she had her siezure. its been one whole week without her having one and two weeks without him here. it took a little over a week to get her home back to normal (smells, sounds, etc) and now that i'm watching this video i'm realizing my friend having my TV on VERY loud, his laptop playing his classes not through earbuds, and him on his phone playing videos, songs etc....could have been the biggest affect on her. i'm naturally a very quiet person, and i am too sensitive to sounds....just wanted to say, thank you for this video, honestly...all videos i've got her to a place where she is herself + on a journey to be the happiest kitty ever. finn on the other hand lol i'm still working on...patience is key 😊

Wish I had found this channel a couple years ago. My cat (she was 19 at the time) was having full blown seizures (violent muscle spasms, foaming at the mouth, urinating on herself) and I couldn't figure out why. Because of her age, I worried it might be epilepsy . The vet said there was nothing wrong with her and she probably just got into some cleaning chemicals, but we didn't have any that weren't pet safe and where she could get to them and the seizures kept happening no matter what cat-proofing I did. After several anxiety-filled weeks, I finally figured out the seizures were getting triggered by sounds. Putting fresh water in her bowl, pulling tape off a package, clinking keys. My roommate even set one off by opening a bag of chips. It was pretty easy to be careful about certain sounds near her after that and since she's gone mostly deaf, they've stopped completely.

This happens to my chihuahua. Loud noises like the sound when someone is vacuuming the carpet near her, she’s outside when someone is using a lawn mower, or the smoke detectors are beeping she has a full blown seizure. She runs full speed through the house banging into walls and furniture and makes a constant noise that sounds like a mix between barking and howling. She also foams at the mouth and urinates and defecates on herself. It lasts less than 10 minutes and when it’s over she is disoriented and confused….it’s so sad to see.

Yes.. I know this because for Hurricane Ike/Rita the power went out here. There were lootings and home robberies happening so I in my living room and stayed up while my family slept. I fell asleep in the wee early hours and heard a loud bang/ruckus (neighbor stupidly destroying his shed at 5 am), so I screamed in panic. The noise was loud, long, and woke me from a deep sleep.
My cat had the worst seizure of her life. She had been sleeping next to me.

My cat experiences a very mild version of this. Most of the time he just licks his mouth (like he does when he sees food he likes), rarely he gags. So I always assumed it was just feeding instinct being triggered. Thank you for the information, I will be careful to put away the toys that trigger such a reaction. My poor boy.

My cat has myo-clonic seizures to keyboard typing, mouse clicking, tin-foil crinkling, and occasionally even her own purring. It started when she turned 10. If I type for a long time and don't realize she's in the room, she'll have a tonic clonic seizure so we have to be very careful. Prior to having reproducible reactions to sounds, she had tonic-clonic seizures (foaming at the mouth, rigid body, spasms for < 5 min) about once a month. Now, along with the myo-clonic seizures, she has tonic-clonic seizures 2-3 times a month. If the auditory stimuli isn't removed, the event ends with a tonic-clonic/grand mal seizure. We've tried three different meds for seizure control and she had adverse skin reactions to all of them (reddened, blistering skin after a single dose for one of them, very scary) except gabapentin, which also handles pain control. I wish there was a solution because it clearly bothers her and she clearly doesn't understand what's happening to her. After a series of micro-seizures, she pulls out the hair on her belly for some reason.

One of my current cats, and a cat that passed away years ago would make those faces from smells. I call it a "yacky face." Both cats make it when they sniff a pill bottle that I've opened. But my living cat also does it when he first smells a little bit of meat that I give him. It doesn't matter what type, beef, turkey, chicken, pork. His first sniff, he yacks, then he comes back to eat it. And it's not that flagron face that they make when they're really smelling something deeply.

Hey Jackson! Something that always made me curious about cats is petting or tapping their back/base of tail area. Some cats I’ve petted on the base of their tails reacted positively because the owners told me they liked it, but some others seemed irritated and overstimulated? I watch a lot of cat TH-camrs and some have cats that as they claim like to be patted repeatedly on their bum areas. I am curious if this is true? What are your thoughts on this subject? Some people claim it arouses the cat sexually, others get reactions where a cat would furiously lick themselves or make weird sounds and they keep stimulating the cat that way for amusement which is wrong. What is your verdict?

I had situation that cat of owners in a flat had seizure during ringing sound of glass ball while food sachets touches edgedes when I tried to take food out. She dropped on a side and after a moments lift her self up and started walking in circle . I knew that ringing frequency caused her this brain paralysis. Frequencies do these days to all of us anxiety on long terms. Very interestingly swirling your body does some physical help. The cat naturally started swirl himself to undo the 'harm' . I looked on dervish dance tradition ,it is needed for some earth periods to fix possibly magnetic fields...

2020 vision is right. It may be the cat freaking out at unfamiliar noises. Mine spazzed out at everything when I first brought him home because he was 8 months old then and extremely high energy. Now he's 6 years old and watches and listens to everything, and only spazzes out in episodes of the zoomies. If it persists after kitty gets comfortable, it may be worth looking into as FARS. If it is FARS, covering the wooden floors with area rugs to minimize creaking and foot contact may be helpful.

My cat BaeBae has this weird thing she does when she drinks something cold or feels very cold air or touches something very cold. Her two front legs jerk out from under her. When she was a kitten she’d fall face first into her bowl. Now that she’s older, it still happens but she’s able to keep herself from falling into her bowl. From time to time I’ll let her have the last couple of drinks of my milk that’s left over after I eat a bowl of cereal. I know, I know, you’re not supposed to give cats milk. But she’s been drinking it, in small quantities, since she was a kitten. It doesn’t give her diarrhea or any tummy upset, just the jerking legs when the milk is very cold or she touches something very cold or feels cold air from the front door when it’s wintertime. It doesn’t seem to bother her. It’s just weird. I wonder if it is something like FARS?

I had a cat that developed this problem when he was around 13. He was triggered by most alarm sounds, so I had to use a bed shaker, and I had to turn the TV down when watching it. One time he was even set off by hitting his own paw against the litterbox while burying waste. It was so weird not having to walk around on eggshells anymore after he passed. 😔

Hi Jackson!. I happen to have a 17 year old cat that suffers from FARS. We already noticed that she was very sensitive for sharp noises, but on time she sat under my computer chair that happens to creak when I turn or move on the chair. At that moment she got a real seizure and during that seizure fell from the stair. No Veterinarian knew what was going on, but I happened to find what was wrong with her on the internet. She has had two more seizures but is now under medication with phenobarbital and hasn't had a seizure in two years. All the causes that You named is making her shake, so I really take care when she is around. We keep our fingers crossed. my cat has some kind of positive seizure at polyphonic melodies of a cell phone (any melody) - as it is the most wonderful sound in the entire universe. she scrubs her face all over the phone until the moment that she starts to bite it in ecstasy. on the other hand, when the interphone buzz, she momentarily disappears in some cat dimension. cats are more aware of sounds and frequencies than we can imagine - so whisper around them to make them happy and calm :)

  • @adde9506
    @adde9506 3 ปีที่แล้ว

This sounds a lot like the nails-on-chalkboard effect. If I understand the study correctly, there was no real-time recording of seizure activity in the cats by EEG, so that means there is a possibility it is just that. Everyone has that one sound that makes their stomach turn over and they just have to *move*. A fingernail squeaking on the car door handle, fork slipping on a plate, wet sneakers on linoleum, the TV on mute... Your cat just can't turn around and yell at you to KNOCK IT OFF, nor do they feel any social pressure to not do whatever the corresponding movement is.
I'm not implying that it is any less seizure-like or involuntary or that it's unimportant, just that humans DO experience something just like this. You can totally relate to what you're cat is going through.

All of those sounds trigger me too, the difference between my audiogenec reflex and a cat is it only happens to me just before or during a migraine. The sounds do hurt me physically and my hearing is increased a 100 times, e.g. I can hear a mouse fart at my neighbours house. Sound and light increase the migraine pain and can make me throw up, the cats don’t look like they are in any pain but I can sympathise with them
