2 years ago I started the road to get into grad school. It didnt seem too difficult. Take a standardized test and BS some essays. Not a big deal. Except it wasn't. The first time applying I got rejected to every school I applied with too low of a standardized score. It became my obsession to chase a score that would get me in. My entire life for over a year was dedicated to getting into graduate school. Got a job that I knew wasnt a good fit during the interview process but with a bigger company to impress admissions. Took 3 alternate courses to mitigate academic concerns. Took another online course to solidify my background. In addition to studying for this 1 test for months on end and optimizing my essays, while 'touring' schools to increase my odds.
After all that, I was still a longshot for admission come application time with my test scores not improving, even though I accomplished the rest of my goals. I felt I had undertaken an impossible road and wasted almost 2 years for absolutely nothing.
Seeing how dire the situation was I quit my job after applying and toured additional schools I did not have a chance to meet, in addition to forcing interviews with schools that weren't all that interested. Drove practically cross country for a month just bouncing from school to school.
I was super depressed doing all this and getting nowhere fast. Felt as though I hit an overgrown and elusive road that I just wasn't cut out for. Then I saw this album come out on Spotify. This song in particular kept me going when I wanted to just lie down and quit. This was just a final storm, the main trial. Get through it. Every school denied me admission including sure-fire bets...except one.
I ended up receiving admission to the school I just assume wouldn't even look at my candidacy. All because I kept fighting.
Thank you The Ocean and Jonas.

Hey man, keep on it. Somethings take their own time to happen. If you can be this expressive while writing here, I know it for a fact what profound changes you have underwent through this cruel period of time. Good things will happen. Hang in there!

@@Genoflesh Thanks, man. It certainly hardened me up for the next year's trials. Had a hell of a time finding an internship offer I wanted during my 1st year of grad school. Once I did find an offer, it ended up getting canceled less than 2 months from my start date due to COVID.
So I did the same hustle that got me into grad school in the first place, and after calling at least 100 folks got 3 interviews and offers at 2 F500 companies in a time where no one was hiring or looking. No offer to come back being a last-minute add-on, but at least I got the experience to actually get the job.
So it restarts again, but I'm so used to hustling that it's almost second nature now. I feel far less stressed out about finding a job than any of my peers in a similar boat. There's a power to having gone through that experience twice.

Our dreams now soaring above the surface
With horizons shifting slow in blue
Rites of spring to chase the winter away
I allow my very mind to pass on through
    Our fragments
    In dust reunited
Took in the night to color my room
Had birth in the palm of my hand
But no one came to tell me
    This road was overgrown
    And so elusively kept
Send me back to the evening
    Before our very first day
Must find time for my words
    Before they go away
I found my place among the others
And realized the stars were all too far
    The song that remains unsung
    A chain around my neck
    Thrusting on my back
    This violent storm ahead
    Of time never spent
    Nascent
    Our fears are now soaring
    below the surface of conscience
    Our inner horizons shifting
    slowly out of scale

The last half of this track is incredible, some of the heaviest stuff The Ocean has put out in recent years and it's amazing. Loic has really worked on his screams, and those pitched yells with the melody at the end is the proof in the pudding. I love Jonas in the beginning and the vibe the first bit has, but that last leg is fantastic and I cannot wait for this album to drop in it's entirety.

And you find other songs, even better than that one you found in the first place, and you feel fucked and betrayed because you should have known earlier, because this was missing in your life ... This band re-invents themselves each and every time. This leaves me speechless. THANK YOU....

Erick Ribeiro Cretaceous is a period, like Permian and Devonian, but it is part of the Mesozoic era, which is the second era in Phanerozoic eon, so it will almost certainly be a song in "Phanerozoic II: Mesozoic"

Yup they do...metaphorically. After visiting Europe I can definitely understand what they were going with some of their songs on this album, especially when you consider The Ocean being a German band. So much beauty and history...yet also a lot of darkness behind all that history that still haunts them to this day. Akin to the age of the Dinosaurs featuring immense beauty yet terrifying beasts and turbulent time period.

Our dreams now soaring above the surface
With horizons shifting slow in blue
Rites of spring to chase the winter away
I allow my very mind to pass on through
    Our fragments
    In dust reunited
Took in the night to color my room
Had birth in the palm of my hand
But no one came to tell me
    This road was overgrown
    And so elusively kept
Send me back to the evening
    Before our very first day
Must find time for my words
    Before they go away
I found my place among the others
And realized the stars were all too far
But no one came to tell me
    This road was overgrown
    And so elusively kept
Send me back to the evening
    Before our very first day
    The song that remains unsung
    A chain around my neck
    Thrusting on my back
    This violent storm ahead
    Of time never spent
    Nascent
    Our fears are now soaring
    Below the surface of conscience
    Our inner horizons shifting
    Slowly out of scale
    The song that remains unsung
    A chain around my neck
    Thrusting on my back
    This violent storm ahead
    Of time never spent
    This violent storm ahead
    Of time never spent
    Nascent
    The song that remains unsung
    A chain around my neck
    Thrusting on my back
    This violent storm ahead
    Of time never spent
    Nascent
