    Our first video of 2021?? And, did anyone else spot that fox in the video? I don't know how it's already February, but we are still trucking along on our airstream renovation! We finally were able to move forward in January as our axles finally arrived!! I think things are going to start moving quite fast now! Thanks so much to everyone that has been following along with out build here on TH-cam!

    What is the red edging on your sub floor tap or paint ? If paint, before of after polyurethane ?
    Also how did map out and find your wiring when you put your skins back up?

    I love following along with your journey and just super envious that you are about done! (at the time of me posting this) We are getting ready to put the subfloor in and lower the shell but we are all over the place on what to use to secure the plywood. We had it figured out, didn't order the bolts and now can't find our search. SO can you share the specifics of the large bolts you used in the front and back as well as the bolts you used along the c-channel and outriggers? Thanks so much!

    Looks like you didn't remove C channel from the frame? How did you get the subfloor into the channel after you dropped it on top of the subfloor?

    • @slowcarfasthome
      @slowcarfasthome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We did remove the C channel from our shell to clean them up, but I am realizing we don't show it in any of our videos, and reinstall them before we start working on the subfloor. In the 70's era models the front and back "C" channel is actually more of an "U" channel (it just sits on top of the subfloor, so it does not need to be slid into the c channel like all the other parts of the subfloor did, so those two channels were never taken off). We reinstalled the C channel around the time we put the subfloors in and slid them in by each of us standing on either end of the subfloor and guiding it into the channels before lowering the shell fully. Our airstream is only 23 feet long so it is not one big long continuous C channel. It has breaks in several places (mainly because of the wheel wells) so it was not as difficult as maybe a larger AS with big continuous strips of C channel may be.

      So to clarify--We began dropping our shell with all of the subfloor (subfloor sheet 2, is pretty much the only sheet that was completely slid into C channel the rest of the subfloor has gaps from wheel wells, exterior access boxes, etc) slid into place where there is C channel. The front and back pieces of subfloor simply sat flat on the frame waiting for the shell to be dropped on it since those two areas have the "U" channel not a C channel on our Airstream.

      @@slowcarfasthome Cool! I figured it just kinda looked like you dropped the shell with C channel attached to the shell not on the subfloor and I was so confused how you accomplished that haha. You didn't need to replace any C or U channel? I am finding the U channel in the back curve of mine is destroyed

    • @slowcarfasthome
      @slowcarfasthome  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrianHelmingcomp nope we did not need to replace any of our C or U channel as they were still in great shape. We just cleaned them up and reinstalled in original placement

    Great job!!! I love you videos. I missed the part where you reinstalled the belly pan and tanks.

      Hi angel! The water tank was installed at the beginning of the video, and the grey tank is still not here yet, so it is not installed. Only part of the belly pan is reinstalled right now in the front and the back of the airstream (shown in the video). Just waiting on our grey tank to arrive and that will all be buttoned back up!

    Can you explain what you did with the c channel? We are currently here with our renovation and aren’t sure if we should attach c channel to the wood before we lay it on the frame or after we partly secure it to the frame. Our channel is completely detached from the shell right now. Love how in depth the videos are. Thanks!

    • @slowcarfasthome

      Hi Darbi! I think if you took the channel all the way off most people we've watched or talked to would attach the C channel to the subfloor before lowering the airstream onto the subfloor.
      Initially we left our C channel attached to the aluminum shell after we lifted the airstream off the frame as ours was in perfect condition all the way around and we were worried we would misplace important parts of our channel before putting it back on.
      Because of the year of our airstream (70's era) we have a different type of C channel on the front and back end of the airstream that just sits on top of the subfloor (i think its called a U channel or F channel is what i read in airforums) rather than the subfloor sliding into the 'C'. The only place we needed to remove the C channel completely was near the door (the long piece of C channel by my foot at 14:19 is what we took off). We slid the piece of subfloor into the opposite sides C channel (attached to the shell still) then when we lowered the shell more we slid the piece of c channel we took off into place with the subfloor inside the 'C' and the old rivet holes lined up on the shell, and finally put the shell down all the way.
      Sorry if that was a long explanation! It's kind of confusing to explain, and I wish we had included that part in the video!

      @@slowcarfasthome thank you so much for the detailed reply. Yes ours is a 1985 and has the complete c channel in the front and back, so it had to be removed. We will put it on the new subfloor before we drop the shell. Thanks again! Can’t wait to see how y’all’s project turns out!

    Hey, I’m getting ready to cut and epoxy my new subfloor. I’m using Total Boat epoxy. What’s that red stuff you used on the edges of your plywood? You guys are teaching me so much!! Thanks!!

      Hi Angel! We saw someone in the facebook airsteam restoration group use "Redgard" on the edges of their subfloor. It is typically used for water proofing the underside of where a shower goes. We used a gallon of spar urethane on our subfloor and then the redgard on the edges
