This new style of online co-op is perfect because it gives you all of the good sides of co-op (reviving, sharing items) and giving you none of the bad sides. You now can't purposely screw someone over cause you're a troll. It makes co-op actually fun versus frustrating. And if you're playing with friends, it's still co-op. But again, your friends can't screw you up on purpose.
You say "I just wanna play online with 3 other people. Like actually play the game and like revive each other and go on flag poles. Like couch co-op" when you can do EVERY single one of those things in the game. What other feature do you need? Hop on a call with your friends and load up a room. The ONLY difference is that you can't physically touch other characters, which is a plus because you don't accidentally throw your friends or bounce on top of them and mess each other up.

@@jacobpipers This is also the first Mario platformer, with online multiplayer, to release after Nintendo created the new and improved Online servers. The previous games were running on the old ancient ones. New games released after Monster Hunter Rise (the first game to use the new servers) use the new and improved Nintendo online servers. This will be a first test to see how well they work with platforming games.
You can't physically touch other characters in local co-op either. Unless they are Yoshi, and you jump on to ride them. Other than the Yoshi thing, they removed the collision aspect from the game, altogether. So you don't deal with frustrating collision jumps and stuff. The only differences in online play from local seem to be:
1. Yoshi rides are local co-op only.
2. Online play doesn't have players playing just on a single screen, they have their own, it seems.
3. Other players are made more transparent to make your character situational awareness easier. However, if you are currently a ghost, the other players become opaque until you are revived.
So, outside of Yoshi rides, Abdallah is literally getting everything he wanted. Especially with Friend rooms. He just needed to take the time to take all that information in.

Technically you can do online coop but it's not quite the conventional way. You can't physically interact with other players but you see them in real time. Each player plays on their own file without having to sync.
Which also means no lag!

Im a bit confused as to why you're so disappointed, you can create a room with 3 friends, and then play co-op like normal with all the Cooperative features they showed off
The big difference is that you can't actually touch each other as far as we know, which sure could be a bit of an issue in a way but i would say it's a pretty unique experience to give a shot to when it releases

@@DeltaInTheRain You can't touch each other in local co-op either. Outside of the Yoshi-riding ability, characters go through each other. I would say, the main difference is that the interactivity of affecting the environment, isn't shared online, so unless another player *shares* a power--up, you can't just grab a power from someone else hitting a block like you can in local. And it's likely that which saves a lot of bandwidth.
The other aspect I'm interested in, is that Nintendo brought in brand new and improved online servers, starting with the first game to launch on them (Monster Hunter Rise). New games since March 2021 use the new and improved servers, but stuff older than that, are still coded for the old online. This will be the first Nintendo platformer, to test out how well the new servers work with platforming games.

This isn’t what we were expecting for online play but I’ve gotta say,it’s a step in the right direction
I prefer this tbh, you can't accidentally screw eachother, don't have to deal with how the camera interacts with multiple people, and nintendo's bad online wont be a problem but you can still revive eachother, share items, try to reach the finish/find secrets all together etc
The speedrun for this game is going to be INSANE

I was predicting online like Mario maker, you get to go online with 3 others. And I don’t want people flooding stages with standees.
I wished they showed us a new boss that wasn’t bowser jr and I wish they didn’t make the different color yoshis and toads their on characters on just let us switch in between what color we want so we can have other Mario characters playable
