Not all Californians are liberals. Not all people moving from California are from there. I grew up and spent most of my life in Arizona, but moved to CA. after a big life change. Now I’m older and want to live my retirement in AZ after living in CA for several years. Different culture for sure.

phoenix has 5 water sources- 2 surface rivers, colorado river water, groundwater, and recycled wastewater. as for electric power, it has palo verde nuclear plant, the nation's biggest. a problem with phoenix is the repeated boom bust economic and housing prices cycles which people soon forget but really shouldn't. a positive thing is that taxes are low and the cost of living is still low compared to the coasts. another very positive thing is the absence of devastating hurricanes, storms, and sea level rise. finally, it has beautiful winters.🙂

Live in Tucson, the desert 🏜️ is jaw droppingly beautiful. The gridded city full of strip malls not so much. They could have made Tucson one of the most beautiful cities in the world. instead it's new growth is just thousands of horrific track homes.
Guess they just want everyone in the rat race.

Whenever I go to Phoenix from Tucson, I am glad to be back home. Air quality is much better, it is more rustic, the people are friendlier, and hiking in the mountains is more convenient via Lemmon or Madera Canyon. Unfortunately, there is not much in the way of the interstates or the east/west and north/south roads, but that may not be such a bad thing, because then it would be more like Phoenix.

The "only" reason not to move, not only to Phoenix but to Arizona is the "soon-to-be lack of water"! I cannot understand why there is a steady increase in construction going on when residents are constantly reminded about the lack of water. It is one thing to build homes, etc..., but to build at such a high rate is unconscionable!

There are positives and negatives, anywhere you decide to plant your feet and call home. We in Arizona live in a mainly desert area. City lovers should never move out here they will be extremely disappointed. As for us desert dwellers, we would not fit into a New York city environment.
Yes, dry heat is hot at 110° -118° no questions about that. Not to mention all the sunny days we have. If you like gloomy days this may not be your best spot.
Myself I love the hot dry walked into an oven heat feeling its soothes my bones and joints. I've learned to love nature even more, and have even taken up hiking when the weather permits.
I do think they should stop building up the desert into communities that will run out of water sooner than later.
Think about what you want for a lifestyle before you move anywhere. Do your homework!

The food quality here in Phoenix , is very poor. Most restaurants are very poor quality these days, and poor service. The mexican food here is very lackluster as well. People who think Pheonix Mexican food is good quality, either have bland taste buds, or have never had Californian, Texan, or actualy south of the border Mexican food. I was born and raised in southern Arizona. Currently living in Phoenix (have for the last 5 years). Will be leaving in December as the cost of living and crime has exploded here. Everywhere you go it's got a street corner with homeless or drug addicts on it. The cost of living especially the cost of a house has gone to the moon here. In the last 2 years I've had my car stolen, mail stolen, place broken into, and had tools stolen off a job site in broad daylight. Traffic is getting worse with the influx of drivers from California 😒 and hit n runs are ridiculous here. Add to that the impending water crisis and Arizona is not worth it anymore.

I was fortunate to have attended what is now considered one of the best public high schools in the Phoenix area. It seems doubtful that the K-12 public school systems to the west are any better. Tempe was a very fun city for young people. I haven't been back in over 20 years, but I'd willingly move back if I inherit a house. Driving is the one thing that bugs me about living here. I'm new here and, I'm not a slow driver. Until now. People here punch it at lights, just to see how fast they can get to the next light. I see brake lights, I throttle down and get ready to brake, drivers in Phoenix throttle up to get to the light. Morons.

I don’t mind the dry heat because I’m from the Midwest and humid heat is far worse. My issue is the insane prices that were not like this 2 yrs ago when I was first looking to move here. I refuse to pay $1500+ for a standard apartment, when I can rent a beautiful home or 3 bed townhouse for that in Houston. The water issue is a concern too, I knew it was a desert & there wasn’t much water. I didn’t know it was THIS bad, if I could afford a house I wouldn’t buy it cause 5-10 yrs from now PHX metro will damn there be inhabitable. 🤷🏽‍♀️ It’s just not worth it anymore, I got here too late but I’m gonna cut my losses when the lease is up.

Light rail expansion is slow (the Capitol extension is still in its early phases, and the I-10 west extension requires that to be finished), and the system isn’t known for its speed or safety, and basically the only bus routes with rush hour or overall daytime service better than 30 minutes are the ones going to downtown/midtown Phoenix, Old Town Scottsdale, the ASU Tempe campus, and the state capitol complex. The express bus routes aren’t very useful if you don’t work in downtown. Plus, all the computer chip factories add onto it.

Cut the farm use and allow more water to enter the aquifer and rivers etc. So far we are having a good monsoon season.
