Oregon State and Washington State have NO DESIRE to affiliate themselves with a group of 5 conference. They were forced to sign the deal for football dimly because they want to play football. They joined the WCC for basketball/other sports because they wanted to send a message that they are not a g5 team. The same thing BYU did when Utah joined the PAC 12 they didn’t want to be seen as a lower level team. So they went independent in football and joined a the WCC.
The only difference is that BYU was enticed by ESPN to go Independent...OSU & Wazzu would be relegated to do so if they were to go Indy in this instance. But I think their best bet is to take from the top of the MW, and some American (Memphis, UTSA, North Texas) & Sun Belt teams (Texas State), form a "Texas & West" Pac 12 and go from there! Because the NCAA isn't going to allow this 2 team conference thing for much longer.
@masterfootballwithjakeposey I do believe that OSU and WSU will end up in the MW after these two seasons unless they are invited to the power conference. I don’t think they can afford those MWC fees to take some teams. It will be interesting to see
@@scottyclayton2501 Unfortunately I agree. OSU and WSU are using this interim deal to kick the can down the road in the hopes of some further shifts in the remaining P4 hoping that in a year or two they'll get an invite.
OSU and WSU are not planning on paying any fees to poach MW schools. This is an interim arrangement that buys them a couple years to see if a Power 4 bid is possible. Even if they were considering doing so, the MW teams still have the $17M exit fees to pay. This really sucks for the better teams hoping for a partial improvement in their G5 status, but protects the cellar dwellers from getting left in the cold.
I fully expect the Pac to rebuild with the best G5 teams they can convince to join them, penalties or not. They have a 2-year grace period to rebuild, and the exit fees for others will be smaller or gone by then. They will build the clear No. 5 conference in order to lock up an automatic bid to the football playoffs every year. I expect they would target teams with recent football success like Tulane, Fresno State, Boise State, Air Force, UTSA, New Mexico State and Memphis, to join Oregon State and Washington State. Then add a few basketball powers like Gonzaga, San Diego State and UNLV. And finish it off with some bigger TV markets such as San Jose State, North Texas, Rice and Colorado State.

OR St, and Washington State should be patient, and merge with the ACC after 10 schools leave. I think they have more value.
