Greetings from England..Thank you so much for this video, there are lots of unboxing but not many ride reviews.I look forward to seeing more of your videos on these brakes. beautiful bike too :-)
Thank you for watching! I want to test ride this brake set more in my local mountains, but I'm really busy at the moment. But I will try to squeeze out time for test rides. Thanks again:)
Hi, I'm glad you find my video useful. The rotor rubbing problem actually forced me to cut short my planned test ride. Thank you for watching and sub :)
ah yes, thank you, i was skeptical about this brakes but the price keep me interested, now i can finally just go for tektro or some other better brakes, really thanks a lot
If you want to really trust your brakes while riding on a high-speed challenging mountain roads, then forget about those Chinese cheapo brakes or Tektro altogether. They all lack the rigidity that all well established brands offer and that enables you to concentrate on riding. I am just curious how Chinese cheap brakes actually perform. They will never ever come close to my Shimano brakes both in performance and reliability. Just my 2 cents :)
Hey, well thought out video. I think theres usually a small (2.5mm) screw on the inside of the lever that will adjust the reach, seems pretty standard on these style of brakes. Thanks for taking the time to make the video!
Hi, I adjusted the lever reach in my another video with the set screw that you refer to. The "free stroke length" that I mean in this video is different from the lever reach though. I explain this also in my another video. Thanks for watching!
Hi, you can use your existing Hayes 160mm rotors, though you might need to adjust the mounting hight using washers especially you use wave rotors. Thanks for watching!
@@MindDesignFactory I'm looking at buying them from aliexpress, or would I better off buying genuine clarks m3 brake set even though there only 2 piston
Unfortunately I have never used any other budget hydraulic brakes than Meroca M4. So I can't tell which one would be a better choice for you. Just for your reference, the cheap copies of the new Clarks' C4 seem to be sold at Aliexpress as Zrace M1, Lipro E4 and other names. You may be interested to check those out. Cheers
It depends. I have tried some methods to shorten the free stroke distance. Check out my following videos: th-cam.com/video/u94IupFA5K8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Vicl3yQOChK_ym1- th-cam.com/video/7F9qJbj6c5U/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Wp1dTKszN2mdGCQX Hope these help in a way or another 😊
Hi, you can actually watch the video at Clarks' web site. Below is the link: www.clarks.bike/the-bike-bench/how-to-videos/m4-hydraulic-brake-system.html
Hi. Meroca M4 brake set came pre-bled. and I don’t know what is used to bleed them. I use Shimano mineral oil to fill up the brake line when needed. It works just fine. I think that mineral brake oil of any brand will perform just about the same.
It would be no problem to use it with a 203mm rotor, I think. Just make sure there is enough clearance between the caliper and the rotor:) Thanks for watching!
I have never used any Zoom hydraulic brake. But a guy told in his comment to one of my videos before that M4 performs much better than Zoom brakes that he had used on his bike.
MT200 is for entry level riders and more urban-oriented riding. I highly recommend MT500/501 series instead. Meroca M4 would be better performance-wise compared to MT200. But beware of "defective on arrival" or oil leak issues when buying Mecora. Just check out my other Meroca videos before deciding on it. Thanks for watching!
The braking performance is fairly good for its price. But I'm not sure if Meroca brakes are durable enough to serve me many years to come. Is your TH-cam channel icon a character from Yowamushi Pedal?
I'm afraid I'm not the right person to answer to your question. My scanty experience of other hydraulic brakes than Shimano won't allow me to do an unbiased comparison of Meroca with other brakes. I can only say that Meroca M4 brake is far superior to any mechanical disc brake or cable-pull hydraulic disc brake that I've ever used. For the price of Meroca do you expect more than that? I won't :) Thank you for watching! A cute kitty by the way :)
Rebadged or copied, I am not sure, but yes these are the same as Clarks M4, the old model of M4 to be exact. Clarks seems to have redesigned M4 lever and caliper.
You can buy Shimano brake calipers or levers separately, but Meroca seems to be available only as a brake set (pre-bled lever and caliper set). So when you have wrecked a brake lever, you would need to buy another set or look for an alternative lever of other brands. After all, it comes down to whether you are bothered about fixing this and that issues that cheap Chinese components tend to bring about :)
You mean Shimano levers & Meroca calipers? Well, a pair of Shimano levers would certainly make the whole brake system perform better. But Meroca calipers are not worth the try 😅
There are many discussion about this oil in the reservoir. I believe that the amount of oil has nothing to do with the stroke but how you gap the pads that m!matters. There are lots of video how to gap your pads without putting oil. I do have the meroca as well. They're not bad breaks they're also not good. They definitely out the cheapest pads on earth and the cheapest alloy material they could use on this one. You should show disassembly of the break someday when that thing breaks down. And I know for sure, the amount of use I put on this break, it will break soon!
This brake is not as sophisticated in every aspect as Shimano, and auto-pad-adjust doesn't work at all when the oil amount is decreased. So easiest way to shorten the stroke is just adding oil. And "spongy" lever feel on the Meroca is quite different from that on Shimano because a relatively strong return spring is used for the master cylinder piston. That makes it hard to see what the real cause of the awkward brake engagement is. And "sponginess" on Meroca is not only caused by air in oil, but also by poor manufacturing quality, lack of material strength (as you point out), low quality seals, and so on. But as a matter of fact, we should all be aware of those things in the first place, don't we. The price is as low as a joke:) It's so naive to think that this kind of brake should be at least as decent as the lowest grade brakes of Shimano. So I always say "this brake is good for its price". If the price is higher, this brake is less than a crap. How durable this brake will be is completely another story. I'm in the process of disassemling the Meroca brake lever to fix the oil leak. I will upload the video when I'm ready. Material, mechanism and construction, everything is far inferior to Shimano, but again reasonably well built for its price:) Thank you for your input!
