      This is exactly what drew me into Mr. Myco and his Methodology. Aside from the final product, his advice based on true lived experience will get any aspiring mycologist into the blue. Yeah, he got dialect. Yeah, he got home brew. But guess what? After years of being himself on teh interwebz, WE get to cultivate cubensis! Give Willy his due. He certainly has given it to us. Mush Hugs, Willy!

    I just made 400 kilos do it every week, You should take them when the grains just start to split. These are a little raw still need a little more cooking. Gypsum is for shiitake you may get better results from using 50% gypsum and 50% calcium carbonate, you may get even better results using just calcium carbonate and no gypsum. You need to try a little with all your strains, for example, Pleurotus hates gypsum, etc.

    Man I'm so very grateful for this and all your great content.
    Q. I'd love to hear any comments you have about why it's important to soak the grains first, instead of going directly to a shorter time on the stove? The overnight soak adds a bunch of time, and I have had some decent results eliminating that step. Love and learn ✌️

    • @stephenhooper5704
      @stephenhooper5704 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The overnight soak allows yeasts, fungi, mold, and bacterial spores to begin their life cycle meaning they go into the pressure cooker exactly when all your inocculant’s future competitors are at their most vulnerable. It also helps avoid burst grains.

    hey what was the room temp when you where drying your grains? if your in the P.N.W. and especially if your above sea-level they will dry at completely different rates, but really if you include your preferred room temp that could drastically help some that may not know better.

    Its really and truly a learn as you go kind of thing. The best "tips and insider tricks" come from personal trial and error, my first time ever growing mushrooms not knowing anything i harvested 4 ounces dry from two flushes of purple mystics. If I had known to soak the block I could have got way more and for me personally pinning conditions were very confusing but after one grow i know exactly how to create a sick ass pinset and what cause pins to form. Get out there and do it, if your even slightly intelligent it will come so fast.

    Tried this technique. Didn't work. Took forever to dry despite building myself the same drying rack / sieve: the bottom layer of grains towards middle of the rack were still soaking wet even after 30 minutes. Perhaps it was because the rack was in the bathroom on the tub and there is less circulation in there? I turned the fan on for the last 10min. stretch, and tben after 30min. I transferred the grains on the rack to a colander because they wouldnt dry. Took over 50min. of drying to pass the tissue test. And that was only half my grains (3 jars' worth on the rack, and 3 jars' worth in the colander, drying at the same time). The half I had drying in the colander on my kitchen counter passed the tissue test after drying for about 40min. Idk how he's getting "perfectly dried grain" after drying for only 30 minutes.
    AND I had a BUNCH of burst berries! I didn't do anything different except for not using gypsum (I opened the bag I bought and saw it was the wrong kind of gypsum, so I had to go without it for my first batch of grains) -- but aside from not using gypsum, I followed the instructions *exactly.* And still, drying took forever and I got a ton of burst berries anyway. And that's with a whole lot of babying the grains and constantly running up and down the stairs to mix and spread the grains for drying...
    Anyway, this tek didn't work for me. It is FAR too involved for working so poorly for me, so I'll be finding another technique to prepare my rye berries -- one that's less involved and requires substantially less babysitting.
    Works out for me anyway, because as helpful as this guy is, and as thorough as he is, I find his videos extremely hard to watch and actually rather irritating. I try to get over it for the information, but damn, he's long-winded, repetitive, and says "as you can see" so much I want to scream. I do appreciate the help and the thoroughly informative quality of his videos, I really do... but it's still like nails on a chalboard for me. Kneejerk cringe.
    Off to find another method.
